This is downright unnecessary, the guy raised a salient point which is his opinion and which he has a right to.......all you needed do was explain to him what you know about the project or provide useful material on this project.

So many projects like this has been done in Nigeria and launched with so much fun fare but at the end nothing comes out of it.......lakerice readily comes to mind.

It's scary that no Nigerian company can manage a rice mill. China builds our roads and railways while India owns nearly a majority of manufacturing companies in Nigeria. Another has been added — rice.
Better scary than bring us suffer like in refineries. I laud the LASG for this.

Better than letting black men make a local refinery of those mills. Far better.

Abeg stop, it's a tax-paying Nigerian company with countless Nigerian employees putting food on the table from their many operations all over Nigeria.

A narrow and cheap mentality is bad for your own future and personal awareness.
Even if they are foreigners. It is better than allowing one of our own ruin it like refineries have been.

WACOT is a Nigerian company. It’s part of the TGI group. They probably employ more Nigerians than Dangote but of course you might not hear of them in the news
Solid investment base in Nigeria

I agree with you but any Nigerian company that tries to will not have comparative advantage over foreign companies.

The investment capital for the business will be enormous since it’s NGN sourced locally as against a foreign company that brings FX and exchanges for NGN
Equipment aren’t manufactured locally and a Nigerian company will need tons of NGN to get USD for the purchase of these equipment.

The foreign companies find it easy simply because they have comparative advantage over local companies due to the value of the NGN against other currencies.

Judge hands out prison time in Enron barge scam

Ex-Enron, Merrill execs sentenced. A repentant Boyle gets nearly four years for his involvement in barge scandal

May 13, 2005

Former Enron executive Dan Boyle was sentenced to nearly four years in prison Thursday, while Robert Furst and William Fuhs, both former Merrill Lynch bankers, received more than three years — all for their roles in the Enron Nigerian barge scam.

Boyle, sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison and fined $320,000, was the only one who appeared repentant about pushing through a sham sale of energy-generating barges to the bank so Enron could pump its earnings and bolster its stock price.

"I'm the only one responsible for my actions and omissions and for the pain I caused each and every person I affected," the Clear Lake resident told the judge. "I'm truly sorry."

Lagos light rail’ll be ready in June – Fashola
January 9, 2013

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said the first phase of the state Blue Light Rail project would be completed by June this year(2013).

He expressed confidence that Lagosians would start enjoying the services of the rail project immediately.

The first phase would run from Marina and terminated at Okokomaiko area in Ojo Local Government.

Fashola spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in the state which took him and his cabinet members to Orile-Iganmu, Alimosho and Ejigbo areas among others to assess the level of works being done by contractors.

The governor, who inaugurated the trackwork of the blue light rail at Alaba Suru, Coker-Agunda Local Council Development Area, said the level of work on the road and those of the National Theatre and Alaba-Mile 2 rail stations, would ensure early completion

He said, “In order to finish the project, the contractor did not go on vacation during the festive period. This will ensure that the project is delivered on time for the use of Lagosians.

“The first section of this rail, which started from National Theatre, Orile-Iganmu to Mile 2 Bus Stop, would be fully completed with the tracks laid.

“Construction work will continue on the project from Orile-Iganmu to Marina, the expansion work on the road from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko will also be intensified.

“This is what we do with the loan collected by the government. We don’t use our loan to pay salaries and other recurrent expenditure, what we do with our loan is to provide capital projects that would serve the residents.

“When the project is completed, the state would be at par with other major cities of the world.”

Lake rice came from the initial phase of this mill. The expected product from this mill is lake rice.
Kebbi is to grow the rice and Lagos process it.

SATANICALLY:
In a 2018 interview, Peter Obi said he invested $20 million in International Breweries on behalf of Anambra state as a governor.

Obi’s claim was in response to questions on economic development, Anambra politics and his presidential ambition.

“… Anambra state is the single-highest shareholder in that facility. I invested in it, over $20 million,” Obi had said.

“It is worth almost $100 [million] today.
That’s what government should do.”

TheCable had previously fact-checked some of the claims.

Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, also debunked a recent statement ascribed to him regarding the investment.

International Breweries (IB) Plc is a subsidiary of the world’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) — a multinational drink and brewing giant based in Leuven, Belgium.

In its 2021 audited financial statement, the company said it holds 43 percent economic interest in International Breweries Plc, a publicly listed company in Nigeria.

According to a report by The Nation, AB InBev merged its Nigerian operations under a single corporate entity in 2017. It had three indirect Nigerian subsidiaries — International Breweries Plc, Intafact Beverages Limited and Pabod Breweries Limited. SABMiller Nigeria Holdings BV — another subsidiary of AB InBev — was also a major stakeholder in Intafact and Pabod.

ANAMBRA’S INVESTMENT

In a statement made available to TheCable on Tuesday, Ifeatu Onejeme, Anambra’s commissioner of finance, confirmed that Peter Obi’s administration invested the sum of N1,955,535,247.00 (an equivalent of approximately $12,616,356.43 at the then average CBN exchange rate of N155.00/$1) in Intafact Beverages Limited, a green-field brewery set up in Onitsha by SABMiller Breweries of South Africa in 2012.

Onejeme added that the state government still holds 407,321,264 ordinary shares of International Breweries Plc in exchange for the Intafact Beverages Limited investment.

“Based on the NGX closing price of N5.50 as of 20/6/22, these shares were valued at N2,240,266,952 on that date,” the statement reads in part.

“Based on the Central Bank of Nigeria I&E exchange rate of N415.75/US$1.00 on same June 20, 2022, this investment was valued at an equivalent of approximately US$5,388,495.37 (and at N604/$1.00 parallel market rate, only US$3,709,051.24).”

Kindly note Wacot is the company producing Big Bull and the rice is a success story. They have the technical expertise, experience and personnel to run the plant. Leave this to our people and just forget about the investment. Running a plant like this requires a lot of commitment, spare inventory, cash flow, personnel if handled by our civil servants , with a lot of corruption and official bureaucracy cannot survive a year before it breaks down

Praying that they get it right and that with time, price of rice will be affordable ( though initially, they will want to break even).

In Cameroon agricultural products including local rice eg Ndop rice( there is another local one too) are really trying, reason why food is the cheapest thing in Cameroon( no thanks to Boko Haram).

Sanwoolu is really trying and should be commended for his ideas and good work. Hopefully, this company will be able to feed the entire Lagos and surrounding states and soonest 200m+ people.
