2023: Northerners Need Someone From North, Not Igbo Or Yoruba – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has reiterated that is the most qualified to lead the country, saying northerners need someone from the region as Nigeria’s leader in 2023.

Atiku, a former vice president, made the comment at an interactive session of the Arewa Townhall Policy Dialogue in Kaduna.

“I have traversed the whole of this country,” Atiku, who is from Adamawa in Nigeria’s North-East region, said on Saturday.

“I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country. I think what the average northerner needs is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country.

“This is what the northerner needs. He (the northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin
.”

Inflammable Rhetoric’
The video of Atiku’s comment, which surfaced hours later on social media, triggered a wave of backlash from Nigerians and political parties including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

APC’s spokesman Felix Morka described the comment credited to the PDP flagbearer as divisive, saying the country does not need such.

“Atiku’s words ring loud of extreme and mindless desperation and such an extremely desperate man cannot and must not be entrusted with the most important job of President – a job whose core duty is that of leading, uniting, and working in the best interest of all in an ethnoreligious pluralistic society as Nigeria,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

“Our country does not need this kind of highly inflammable rhetoric now or ever. What is even more confounding is that this Presidential Candidate of the PDP has touted himself to be on a mission to unify Nigeria.”

While also reacting to the development, former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu said he is “disappointed” over Atiku’s remark.

In a series of tweets on his official handle, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) deputy governor said the comment negates his view of Atiku as a “truly cosmopolitan politician”.

“I was very disappointed to view the video clip of H.E. Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice-President of Nigeria, telling an audience in Kaduna that what the North needs is a northerner to be President, and not a Yoruba or Igbo candidate,” he began in the tweets.

“I have a lot of respect for Atiku who, despite his flaws (which all the other leading contenders also have), I have always regarded as a truly cosmopolitan politician in our country. His reference to his ‘building bridges’ across the country does not negate his clear message

That message was a direct appeal to divisive ethnic sentiment and a denigration of the largest ethnic groups in Southern Nigeria. I think he should withdraw the statement and apologize to Nigerians for it.”

Moghalu maintained that “all candidates in the 2023 presidential election must avoid ethnic or other divisive sentimental appeals”.

That's why all Southern Nigerians must unite and support the most competent candidate with glaring antecedents.

We all need Tinubu more than how Tinubu need us to help end the Northern dominance

I have been saying it and will continue to say it, God forbid that Atiku ABUBARKAR becomes the president of Nigeria. That man is worst than Buhari. A trickstar, a fraudstar, an extremely corrupt man.

Atiku that goes around promising all the South East and South South governor's vp slot at the same time before the 2022 PDP primary election.
Atiku went to Wike ask for his support and promise him vp slot.
He went to Udom Emmanuel say the same thing then
Went to Okowa made same promise
And go to Enough state governor say same thing and finally move to Edo state governor and say same thing.

The man should never be trusted, he is very desperate and dubious.

Very shocking. "what the North needs is a Northern candidate". I have never heard this sort of open discriminatory remark from a presidential candidate in Nigeria. Not even Buhari.

Knowing fully well Northern votes alone won't make him president. Buhari got 12 million Northern votes several times but yet couldn't clinch it.

shocked About interests?

Ok, SOUTH CHRISTIANS need somebody that is from the South, from a region that is yet to Govern (Prov 12:24); a true Christian; one who is not a thief; and has no blood on his hands.

1. "He that stealeth the bread of the poor (Atiku, Tinubu) is a man of blood." (Sirach 34:25)
2. By stealing Lagos funds, Tinubu has rendered many yoruba yoots jobless..... hence cultists.

Nothing new here, double speak and deceit has always been atikus modus operandi. Is he not the same man who few weeks ago promised Igbo's that his presidency will usher in Igbo president in 2027 while a week later, promised to hand over to Wike in the same 2027.

PRESS RELEASE
15/10/2022

Why North Needs A Pan-Nigerian Leader

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has said that the credential of national inclusivity, not ethnicity should be an ideal that the Northern part of the country should examine in electing a new president for the country in the 2023 elections.

Atiku made the remarks when he featured as a guest of the Arewa Joint Committee interactive sessions with various presidential candidates of political parties on Saturday in Kaduna.

He noted that with a political career that spans more than three decades, he stands shoulder high as a Northerner who has built bridges of unity across the country.

“I have been in politics for more than three decades and I am a Northerner. So, if you ask me why I am the best candidate to lead Nigeria in 2023, I will simply say that what Nigeria needs is a pan-Nigerian president, not whether he is Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa-Fulani”.

The session, which took place at the Arewa House was attended by high ranking leaders of various North based socio-cultural bodies.

Atiku, while delivering his speech at the event, highlighted the key policy agendas which he seeks to pursue if elected president to include promoting national unity through deliberate actions that will secure mutual trust and confidence amongst all tendencies.

The other policy areas that the former Vice President enumerated are reforms in education, agriculture and reversing the economic downturn of the country.

Paul Ibe
Media Adviser to Atiku Abubakar
Presidential candidate of the PDP and Vice President of Nigeria

Keep shut, there's FG presence in every state of the country. How does the first Niger bridge turned the face of Anambra that you are here justifying 3rd mainland bridge as what makes Lagos thick.

What your point with Volkswagen? A moribund and space wasting venture.

We talking about
Lekki, Eko Atlantic, BRT, light rail, Lekki Seaport, Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery, Dangote Fertiliser and you are here mentioning Volkswagen?

Are you for real?
National Theatre in Surulere was built by Tinubu.

National Stadium Surulere was built by Tinubu to promote Arts and Culture tin Tinubu's Lagos.

3rd Mainland Bridge the longest bridge in West Africa was built by Tinubu and commissioned by IBB shocked

Tinubu summoned all the Army Generals in Nigeria and told them to build more than 10 Army Barracks in Lagos, which was later commissioned by Fashola to make Lagos a safe state more than other states in Nigeria.

Tinubu built Muritala Mohammed International Airport and have been maintaining it for decades now since the 1970s it was built to ensure it remained the busiest airport serving all Nigerians while other region Governors and politicians were busy looting and sharing Kerosene to their people.

Bola Tinubu also built Apapa seaport in 1920 to ensure free export and import of goods from Nigeria to Europe because of his great vision for Lagos.

I also remember vividly how Bola Tinubu created Oshodi Market in 1860 to ensure free trading of slaves.

What about Banana Island which Tinubu designed in his bedroom as a man with vision and partnered with the Chagoury group for them to help him build a mega island city in Lagos?

What about CMS, Marina and other great things that made Lagos what it is even before 1999 that Bola Tinubu constructed even before he came to Lagos as a city boy shocked

In 1965, Bola Tinubu made Lagos the capital city of Nigeria and told all foreign embassies, consulates and high commissions to open their embassies in Lagos.

Tinubu further instructed international oil companies to ensure they all bring their headquarters in Lagos to ensure Lagos have investors while other politicians like those from Potopoto republic were busy selling Galla and sharing kerosene grin

Bola Tinubu also summoned all Nigerian banks to bring their bank headquarters to Lagos state if they want Yoruba billionaires and Dangote to patronize them.

What about Nigerian Stock Exchange that Bola Tinubu single handedly founded and built to ensure Lagos remained the city where Nigeria's stock market is traded shocked

Did he stop there? No!

Tinubu being a man with great vision wanted Lagos to become Africa's Hollywood city so he created Alaba International Market which helped Nigerian Movie Industry to spring up and also marketed and distributed Nollywood films to ensure they reached all parts of the world, which is why Lagos is the headquarter of Nollywood actors and filmmakers grin

When Bola Tinubu noticed that there will be huge demand for spare parts in Nigeria as Nigerians loved cars, what did he do? To position Lagos above other states in being the center of spare parts trading, Tinubu created Ladipo spare parts market for used spare parts and also created ASPAMDA market Trade Fair for brand new spare parts and then invited Omo Yeeboos selling Gala in Lagos traffic to go and start selling spare parts in those market, yet those children of hate continue to hate Tinubu angry
