The computerised screening of the 17,500 candidates seeking admission to the Federal University of Technology, Akure in Ondo State has been described as the most effective method of preventing examination malpractices.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebisi Balogun, stated this while inspecting the Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the institution, expected to be concluded on Saturday.

He described the conduct of the computer-based screening as an improvement on the previous exercise done through evaluation.

More than 17,500 candidates vied for the 3,000 spaces in the institution for the 2011/2012 academic session.

Balogun, who noted that 10,500 candidates took the examination last year, added that the university was building a digital centre that would assist in future exercise.

He expressed concern about the way education was being administered in the country and called for the establishment of more universities to take care of thousands of candidates seeking admissions.

The Vice-Chancellor appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to tackle the problems in the system.

Chairman of the university’s Admission Committee, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Debo Adeyewa, stated that the Post-UTME was a success despite some challenges being faced in controlling a large number of candidates.

Adeyewa, who said efforts were geared towards ensuring an improved screening, said that members of the committee worked as a team to achieve the goal of being the university with best electronic examination.

He explained that the exercise was divided into seven stages — screening of candidates, checking of slips, stamping of UTME forms, orientation, biometrics, demonstration and electronic screening.

According to him, the computer system is programmed with different questions for each candidate in a way that will make cheating impossible for them.

Our correspondent observed that candidates for the exercise conducted themselves in an orderly manner. They also expressed their satisfaction with the quality of facilities, the arrangement and the supervision.

really futa is the best technology skool in nigeria.thier products speak highly of them. A 2-2 or 3rd class raduate is equivalent to a 2-1 in other universities.futa is a school known to av close circuit cameras n depolarizers to disconnect phones during exams.i love this schoolGREASTEST FUTARIANS

u cant compare oau a conventional school with futa a university of technology.oau offers courses on differnt fields while futa is just a technology school so there is no basis for comparison.
