To solve this equation, we can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by x(x+2) to eliminate the fractions: 1/x + 1/2 = 3/x x(x+2) = (x+2) Next, we can distribute the x on the left side of the equation: x^2 + 2x = x + 2 Then, we can subtract x from both sides: x^2 + x = 2 Finally, we can subtract 2 from both sides: x^2 + x - 2 = 0 Now, we can factor the left side of the equation: (x-1)(x+2)=0 This gives us two solutions: x = 1 or x = -2 Hence the solutions are x = 1, and x = -2 2 Likes |

Thanks so much bro. Please in this your solution, can you explain why x(2+x) is equal to 2+x and not 2x+x^2 and also why 3(2x) equal to 6 and not 6x 1 Like

If that equation is correct then it means x has no solution because with the equation like that, what you have after solving it is x^2 (that is, x square ) = 4x In summary, x^2=4x X= square root of 4x. |

Solving Sl 1/x + 1/2 = 3/x To solve the equation 1/x + 1/2 = 3/x, we can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by the least common multiple of the denominators, which in this case is x. This gives us: x(1/x) + (x)(1/2) = (3)(x)/x Simplifying the left side of the equation by canceling out the x's on the numerator and denominator, we get: 1 + (x/2) = 3 We can then subtract x/2 from both sides of the equation: 1 = 3 - x/2 Multiply both sides by 2 to get rid of the fraction: 2 = 6 - x Finally, adding x to both sides of the equation: x = 6 - 2 x = 4 So the solution is x = 4. 2 Likes |

EQUATION: 1/X + 1/2 = 3/X SOLUTION: Since the right side of the equation is 3/X, let's multiply everything by X in order to cancel the X on the right side i.e. X(1/X + 1/2) = X(3/X) X/X + X/2 = 3X/X 1 + X/2 = 3 Lets move the 1 to the right side of the equation i.e. X/2 = 3 - 1 X/2 = 2 Let's finally multiply both sides by 2 i.e. 2(X/2) = 2(2) X = 4 QED 1 Like |

Chaos14: Seems I'm the only one that understand you. I thought the first step before solving anything is to collect the like terms. 1/x +1/2=3/x Collect the like terms. 1/x -3/x=-1/2 Then finding the LCM. -2/x=-1/2 Lastly, cross multiply X=-4 |

Una no Sabi anything for this forum. 1/x +1/2 = 3/x Find LCM you have 2+3/2x = 3/x Cross multiply, you have 6x = x(2 + x) Opening the brackets, you have 6x = 2x + x^2 i.e x square Collecting like terms , you have 6x -2x = x^2 4x = x^2 X^2 -4x = 0 Factorise it and I get X (x -4) = 0 Divide both sides by x X (x - 4)/X = 0/x X - 4 = 0 X = 4 |

Re: Nairaland Mathematicians, Please Come And Help Me Solve This by Awesome80(m): 11:59pm On Jan 16, 2023 |
Here's my own solution... The LCM of x, 2 and x in the equation: 1/X +1/2 = 3/X is 2X. Multiply through by 2x, i.e 1/X x 2X + 1/2 x 2X = 3/X x 2X Here a couple of things happen... 1. The X in 2X cancels out X in 1/X leaving you with 1 x 2 = 2. 2. The 2 in 2X cancels out 2 in 1/2 leaving you with 1 x X = X. 3. The X in 2X cancels out X in 3/X leaving you with 3 x 2 = 6. So we now have 2 + X = 6. After collecting like terms, we have X = 6 - 2 Therefore, X = 4. |
