Description

Jane, a lady endowed with great wealth and beauty, the only child of her billionaire father is the sole heir to her father's wealth and his position in his vast business empire.
In love with a criminal as deadly as the devil, she is deceived by her love for him until she catches him red-handed in his crimes. And when she leaves the relationship and becomes heartbroken, she gets herself occupied with her job of modeling to take her mind away from the current situation, and to heal the wound the disappointment left in her tender heart. Then, she leaves the United States of America for a brief modelling job in Africa where she runs into problems that bring her face to face with death on arrival. And within the struggle to survive from the clutches of a deadly sickness, and the struggle to regain her freedom from her abductors, strangely, she finds love like never before. This new love becomes the vital force of courage that would see her through her healing process, and a catalyst to regaining her freedom. Being immersed in the new love, her life never remains the same again.

CHAPTER 1

It was his ringing cell phone he went for when his hand hit the pistol pouch by his waist.
“What the fucck,” he swore.
Surprised of the situation, he felt stupid. How on earth did I forget to leave this thing in the car? He wondered as he quickly picked the cellphone from his trousers' side pocket. A man dragging a luggage in a hurry into the departure hall nearly crashed on him at the exit door as he was about to make his way out of the hall.
“Hello! boss,” he said as he stepped out.
“Hello! Roja,” Evans’ baritone sailed through to the other end as he held his phone close to his ear. He watched the captives in front of him keenly as he talked. They must be between the ages of seventeen and twenty and it was their second day in captivity for their ransom was yet to be paid.
“Yes boss, I’m here,” Roja replied and smoke escaped from his mouth and nostrils into the air. He wiggled his cigar twice and ashes fell to the ground. The compulsory facemask he had pulled down hung beneath his chin like curtains dragged to a side of the window.
“Has the flight arrived already?” Evans asked, cleared his throat and used his left hand that held the tobacco pipe to give a signal to the boys sitting on the floor before him to start to eat.
“The plane will touch down in the next fifteen minutes boss,” Roja replied again. He had left the arrival hall to give his boys waiting in the car instructions. And besides, he needed a stick of cigar too, and he could only do that outside the airport hall. Smoking was prohibited within the interior part of the airport.
“Okay! who and who are working with you there?” Evans took a drag of the smoke from the pipe, expecting a pleasing reply from Roja.
“Luke-the-dude and Monster-J Sir. I hired them for two months,” Roja answered confidently, knowing Evans would love the combination of the two.
“Good! good!, that's really good. You know, I don’t want any excuse this time around, because this is an international job and our Client is expecting nothing short of success,” Evans tilted the executive chair he sat on back-and-forth with his legs on the office table.
“Yes boss, nothing but success,” Roja took a long drag of the smoke and polluted the air again with it. Then, he looked at his watch, took another drag and dropped the cigarette’s stud on the ground and stepped on it.
It was 8.26am. He was conscious of time as he listened to instructions from Evans therefore, in between the conversation, he quickly cut in, “I’ve got to go boss, the plane will soon land”. He ended the call and walked towards Luke-the-dude and Monster-J who waited in the car. On getting to them, he told them about the latest instruction from Evans, he gave Luke-the-dude his pistol pouch which was not empty, and walked back towards the main entrance of the airport. He pulled up the mandatory facemask as he approached the large glass doors that were some meters away, heading to the arrival section of the hall.
Millions have died world over through the pandemic but Nigeria was yet to have a record of a victim. Although, several measures had been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus by the government but the opposition party was of the opinion that the closure of international airports in the country was also necessary.
Re: Pandemic Affair by AuthorMan: 1:38pm On Jan 21, 2023
EVANS BLEW THE last puff of smoke after the telephone conversation, he emptied his tobacco pipe in the ashtray, and dropped the tobacco pipe on the table. Everyone was aware that he loved to smoke the pipe more than the cigar, and they never touched his tobacco box. He could kill because of it. Roja on the other hand, smoked only the cigar and would burn two packets or more every day. They were both chain smokers but Roja’s addiction was worse.
Picking up his pistol from the table, Evans looked at the boy in red T-shirt in the eye and threatened him again pointing his pistol at him.

“Look here! If your father doesn’t come with the ransom by 12noon tomorrow, you are as good as dead!. If the stingy old bastard bleeps with me, I will kill you. So, I will give you the last chance to talk to him to advise him to comply by my rules. Okay?” He yelled, and the expression on his face was fierce and mean.

The boy in red, with fear gripped heart nodded as he began to shed tears again. Evans watched him sob, and he had not an iota of pity for him. He was never moved by tears on the faces of his captives. Like he said often times, to be successful in the kidnapping crime, one needs to be unmerciful.
He bent his head for some seconds as if pondering, looked up at once and turned to look at the other boy. Dimming his eyes, and raising his hand up gradually, he pointed the pistol at him.

“You! Where did you say your father works?” He asked the rugged looking young man and spat on the floor. Particles of the tobacco had escaped into his mouth and that was his normal habit of getting rid of it.

“He is a civil servant and he doesn’t have a dime. In fact, we manage to eat everyday,” the rough looking boy said.

He had shown no fear since he was kidnapped along with his friend two days ago and Evans hated such attitudes. He believed he must belong to a street gang. Because kids with such attitudes were those who lived a gangster lifestyle. His friend had finished eating but he was still chewing a piece of meat and was rounding up eating.

“You must be insane. Who asked you if your family eat or not? What concerns me with your family’s problem?” Evans yelled and his face turned wild all of a sudden.

“Look! You had better behaved well, and don’t you prove stubborn with me else, I will waste your life if you do,” he instantly stood up, walked up to the scar face young man, and gave him a heavy slap across the face.
The slap sounded like a pack of books falling from a high table and a sudden flash of stars showed in his eyes as he closed his eyes for some seconds. The piece of meat in his mouth had escaped out onto the floor. As heavy as the slap was, he behaved as if he felt no pain. He raised up his head, looked at Evans fiercely like he would retaliate. He breathed heavily as he gaze at his abductor. In his mind, he knew that if not for the pistol in the hand of his abductor, he would retaliate.

“Only God knows where a descent young boy like the chief's son met this animal,” Evans murmured as he took a few steps backward from him.

He accessed the boy from where he stood and concluded that a mere look at him revealed he must be stubborn. Three scars decorated his face. One on his left cheek close to his ear, another at the center of his forehead and a small one on his chin.

“I'll kill you if your friend's father does not agree to pay the ransom for your release. Trust me! Idiot!” Evans swore between his clenched teeth and picked up the bunch of keys on his table, mumbling in anger as he did.

Holding the pistol, he walked up to the door, and ordered the boys out of the room that served as a bedroom and an office for him.
As the boys walked out, he directed them down the passage towards the back door that served as the exit door to the back of the house, he walked behind them to the last of the three rooms by the right. This was the room he used as a cell for the not too rich victims of his kidnap crime. It had nothing but a carpet laid on the floor, a pile of novels and old magazines at the far right corner. Although, it had an air conditioner, a toilet and bathroom like every other room in the house, it was the only room without a window in the whole building. All it had for ventilation was two small square holes of about 2feet close to the ceiling each on both ends of the wall directly adjacent the door. The little ventilation the holes provided, made life unbearable for the captives held up in it when ever there was a power failure and the air-conditioning system became useless.
Evans threw the bunch of keys at the boy with scars on the face. He ordered him to open the door.

"The key with blue paint at the bottom," he told the boy who was already confused of which of the keys to use.

When the door was opened and the boys were ordered inside, he followed them in and told them to sit at the far end of the floor beside the pile of magazines.
The child of the oil and gas businessman lay on the floor of the room sleeping. It was his second week in captivity, and his father had refused to cooperate with his abductors. He had disowned him days before he was abducted and so, he was not bothered when the kidnappers called him for ransom.

Evans walked up to him and gave him a heavy kick on the tummy for sleeping. The boy woke up, and his stomach ached greatly. He opened his eyes and great anger ran through his vein. He stood up at once like a zombie and charged at Evans for the first time since his abduction. He wrestled with Evans and Evans felt insulted by his action. He could not stand seeing a captive rebel against him so, he forcefully held him by the neck almost choking him, and hit him against the wall. The boy staggered and fell, and before he could gather the strength to stand up, in anger, Evans pulled the trigger and shot him.

The bullet pierced into his skull and there was a splash of blood on the wall behind him. He crash landed on the floor, and was completely lifeless.
Re: Pandemic Affair by AuthorMan: 1:57pm On Jan 21, 2023
“No one bleeps with me!” Evans roared like a madman, and the two other abductees watched in utter shock.

What a cruel world! The Scarface thought. Why did he kill him when he did no wrong? What a life! He sighed. As he watched the lifeless body of the poor boy on the floor with pity, anger built up in him in no time. And as his eyes went to the wall painted in crimson by the blood of the dead boy, he wondered if he would not eventually fight to set himself and his friend free from the captivity.
Like a robot, Evans shifted his gaze on the two young men sitting on the floor. He pointed the pistol at the Scarface and gazed at him in anger for some seconds.

“I have a feeling you'll end up like this. So, be careful. No one bleeps with me. You pull a stunt with me, you are dead!” he threatened.

After this, he stood on the spot with his eyes back on the corpse on the floor like he was figuring out something. Then eventually, he got close to the dead body, bent down, and dragged it out of the room, murmuring and grumbling as he did it. The boy in the red t-shirt shivered and withdrew his stretched legs out of the way for the dragged body. It was all disgusting to him for he could not stand seeing blood as he felt nauseated. To him, it was obvious now, that all the threats coming from Evans were not for fun. He meant every word of it. But as for the scar face boy, he felt the urge to retaliate on behalf of the dead boy. He only needed a gun and he would take his abductors up man to man. He believed that as it all was playing out, he could be pushed to be violent against the brutality of Evans and his co-kidnappers one day.
Evans dragged the dead boy out to the corridor and pushed the body to a corner beside the wall. Then, he locked the door to the room and walked away.
Most times, he acted irrational and it was nothing new to all those who worked with him. Anger was one of his weaknesses and he did not know it.
After leaving the body on the corridor waiting for Monster-J to come and dispose of it for he was the one who did all the dirty jobs, he reached for a stick of cigarette and lighted it. Inhaling the smoke and sighing satisfactorily, he remembered that he needed to call his boys and get to know what was happening at the airport concerning the assignment in their hands. So, he reached for his cellphone from his trousers pocket, and dialed a number. The phone rang for a while before Roja picked it.

“Hello! How far?” He asked holding the phone on his left ear, walking towards the room with the inscription, “VIP” on it’s door. The room was where he kept his stupendously rich captives. Those who were capable of paying the ransom in hundreds of millions of naira. Like he always said, he believed in giving them the worth for their money. “It’s a fair deal,” he would joke.
The room was directly opposite the room he labeled EXECUTIVE which he used as an office and a bedroom.
Both rooms were the first rooms on the two roles of rooms separated by the long passage that linked the front door and the back door. It was an old Nigerian house type nicknamed "face me, I face you".
In his VIP cell, was virtually everything to make the captives comfortable, besides Phone, TV and Radio. Sometimes, it served as his relaxation room too, pending the time another VIP captive was caught.
He opened the door and stretched his right hand to the left side of the wall to put on the lights and thereafter walked to the air-conditioning switch at the left side of the wall to put the air conditioning system on.
Meanwhile, it took Roja a few seconds to respond to his question, because he was busy checking on the just arriving passengers, coming into the arrival hall.

“Roja! Are you there?” Evans asked when he did not hear anything except noise of a crowd from the other end.

“Yes boss, the plane has just landed and the passengers are just arriving at the arrival section,” Roja replied.

“Okay then, I am expecting you guys with the target soon. There must be no flaws,” Evans warned authoritatively and ended the conversation.

Satisfied with the information, Evans walked up to the bed side and dropped his phone on the stool on which there was a lamp, he stood by the bedside and paused. He could hear Bolt bark outside the building and he knew she was protesting because of hunger. He would have fed her only if the dog food was still remaining on the kitchen shelve. There will not be food for both man and animal until the boys return from the operation, he concluded.
Picking up his phone, he searched for the radio app. And on locating it, he put it on and searched for a station with a program that would sooth his mood. He felt sleepy and would not mind to take a nap for some minutes but he needed something to listen to before the arrival of sleep. So, he crashed unto the bed like a log of wood and as he lay there, his mind went to the job at hand again. He was too sure that his boys would not fail him. So, confidently, he would go on and take a rest.
The three men handling the job were a good combination any day. The only time Roja failed to perform to expectation was once when both Luke-the-dude and Monster-J went on another assignment and did not work with him. And since they were working together this time around, he expected nothing but success.

He lay face up still holding the phone, for his search had not been successful. Therefore, he moved from one channel to another until he got to the one where the economic recession the nation was going through was being discussed. He stared at the ceiling waiting to catch a nap and listened as one of the analysts blamed the government on the high rate of unemployment among the youths. The comment amused him, and he smiled agreeing it was bad governance that made the percentage of the unemployed rise yearly. And as he smiled, in between his teeth, he mumbled, “Since they can’t provide jobs for us, we have helped ourselves with the one we could lay our hands on, kidnapping for ransom,” he soliloquized. And the little smile on his face metamorphosed into a sarcastic laughter.
He continued listening to the radio until he fell asleep while the radio remained on.
. . .

IN THE ARRIVAL hall of the airport, Roja held a picture on his hand and looked at it closely. Every one in the hall including him had a mask covering the mouths and noses. So, he had to be extra careful not to miss the person he and his colleagues came to the airport for.
“Yes!” he exclaimed quietly when he realized it was the lady in the picture that was coming towards him, among some other passengers. He could have missed her if she had not taken her dark glasses and facemask off briefly to wipe her face with a handkerchief at the moment he sighted her.
It actually took a bit longer than usual for the passengers to be through with the checks to the arrival hall after disembarking from the aircraft. The current mandatory medical screening the government directed all international airports in the nation to carry out on all passengers arriving in the nation because of the pandemic was the reason. It was no more news how COVID-19 virus had devastated every other continents except Africa, and how African countries were trying frantically to prevent Covid-19 occurrence in their lands.
As the lady came closer, Roja picked his cellphone and called Luke-the-dude and Monster-J who waited in the car outside the airport to inform them on the arrival of their target.
“Hello, our friend has arrived and on her way out. Get set to move,” he instructed.
“Okay boss,” Luke-the-dude said and pulled the back-rest of his seat up from the reclining position and Monster-J did the same also. Now they were ready and at alert.

Timi approached the Asian woman in the arrival hall of the airport to get her baggage.
“Welcome madam," he said in his usual polite manner.
It was one of the work ethics he learned over the years in the trade. Politeness is the first character you've got to display to potential clients to win their hearts, trust and love as a Uber Driver, so he had learnt.
"Good afternoon," the Asian lady replied from behind her blue facemask as she walked closer to him.
She had gone through the medical checkups and the screening mandated for everyone coming into the country and she had been certified negative.
Although Africa had recorded a few cases of the Coronavirus yet, it was not as alarming as the other continents of the world.
Nigerians had hoped that their government would not wait until there was an occurrence of the virus before strict measure were installed, just like Ebola was discovered before strong measures were instituted. Although the swift response after it's occurrence was highly commended by everyone for it saved the nation from tears and agony that came with multiple deaths other African nations suffered, many were of the opinion that all international airports in the nation should have been in total lockdown like many other countries had done to prevent the spread of the virus.
The lady got close to Timi and he pushed his trolley forward. She was with two suitcases. One was big, and the other, a medium size. Besides the facemask and the sun glasses on her, she had pink cotton gloves on her hands as well.
"Do you need a Taxi?" Timi asked while already collecting her suitcases to be put in the trolley he came with. He adjusted the suitcases to sit properly in the trolley, waiting for the lady's reply.
"Yes, are you a taxi man?" she asked, and tried to dip the sunshades into her hand bag as she engaged the man she had just met in a conversation.
"Yes I am. You are welcome to Nigeria," Timi replied. He started to push the trolley towards the exit door. Trolley in front, and they both followed behind.
As they walked towards the airport exit, like he used to do with his clients, he started to engage the visitor in a small chit-chat to make her feel at home and also to get to know her.
"I am Timi,” he turned to look at the woman who walked beside him as he pushed her suitcases in a trolley.
“It’s a pleasure,” she replied and looked away.
A Nigerian woman with a beautiful traditional headwear walked past and she stopped, turned, and remarked, “wow! That is beautiful!”. She stared at the woman who walked in haste for a while, and turned on her heels again to continue walking.
Really, Timi had expected her to introduce herself like he introduced himself, but when she did not, he bothered her not.
They were almost getting to the exit doors of the airport, and she looked here and there observing virtually everything that looked strange to her. And by these gestures, Timi guessed she must be a first time visitor. Most things should not be strange to her if she was not new in the country.
"It must be your first time in Nigeria ma’am,” Timi gave her a glance.
"Yes, my first visit,” she replied, still looking around.
Meanwhile, Roja walked at a distance behind them amidst a group of people who were also walking out of the main hall. He reached for his cell phone in the front pocket of his jeans trouser and dialed a number.
“The target sighted and leaving out of the airport with a taxi man, but closely monitored,” he informed Evans and got a commendation from him. He had to make the call snappy so, he ended it instantly, checked his watch and put the cell phone back in his pocket.
Re: Pandemic Affair by AuthorMan: 8:10pm On Jan 24, 2023
Timi and his client were already out of the air-conditioned airport hall and now approaching the car park. The weather was sunny and therefore hot. And he felt uncomfortable in it.
He was just recovering from malaria-fever after shots of chloroquine injections from his doctor for two days and lingering in the sun could bring back the feverish feelings. For this reason, he wished they could double up their steps to his taxi, so that he could escape the hot weather on time, but for his client, he needed to restrain himself from making her uncomfortable in any way. It would be wrong to go way ahead of her and for this, he reluctantly walked at the same pace with her.
As he walked her to his car, he thought of taking the day's chloroquine shot after dropping her off at her destination. And since he could inject himself being a trained nurse, he decided to do it. He had bought bottles of the injection and syringes as well and put in the cab compartment. Like he always said, nothing would debar him from his work and jeopardize his savings towards his traveling plan. He trained as a nurse and it was unemployment that pushed him to the cab business. His plan was to travel to the United States or the UK where he heard that his nursing education would be more useful.
His client dipped her hand in her handbag and seemed to be looking for something. Some meters away to the taxi, she brought out a phone, and fiddled with it as they approached the taxi. After a while, she asked, "do you know where Palm groove hotel is?" And without thinking twice, Timi answered in the affirmative:
"Yes. Is that your destination?" Twisting his neck to look at her.
"Yes. take me there!" she ordered and pulled the facemask down from her nose to her chin. And like an obedient servant, "Yes ma’am,” he replied. Following the rules of the business like his instructor Mr. Jude had advised during the one week compulsory training, when he was just starting out as a Uber driver: In this taxi job, one of the qualities that stands you out as a good driver is humility. You must know, that every client is a boss. No matter the age, gender or social status. So, be humble and polite. And taxi driving could become a gold mine for you someday, Mr. Jude the instructor had said.

Roja kept his eyes on the Taxi man and his client. He got to the SUV he and his team brought to the airport, and Monster-J on seeing him, left the front seat for the back. Roja entered, and sat in the front seat Monster-J had just vacated, and pointed at the Uber Taxi some meters away.
“That’s our target, follow the taxi when it moves,” he instructed Luke-the-dude who was behind the steering.
“MJ, where is your weapon?” Roja turned his head to look at Monster-J at the back seat.
“Here and ready boss,” Monster-J replied in his usual subtle voice.
Only those who worked with him knew he was brutal. And that was why Evans nicknamed him “the Quiet Danger,” his gentleness could be easily mistaken to be niceness.

CHAPTER 2

Palmgroove hotel was one of the best hotels in town and as a first time visitor, she must have been referred to the place by someone or by a website to have asked to be taken there. She sat at the back seat of the cab and at every question Timi asked as he drove, all she gave was a short straight to the point reply. To Timi, that gave her away to be either an introvert or someone who hates familiarity with a stranger. So, he switched to his way of getting along with clients with the kind of attitude. He always kept the conversation short and simple as to not become a pain in their ass. While some passengers would be the ones that keep conversations alive until they reach their destinations, some would not talk unless you asked them questions. And once they answered such questions, they were back in the reserved mode. Different strokes for different folks, he thought.
From time to time, Roja glanced at Luke-the-dude who nodded his head to an imaginary music as he drove three vehicles away from their target. He chewed gum like he did often when driving.
“We will strike when they take a turn off the express way into a street. I will tell you when we are striking,” Roja said, and Luke-the-dude nodded to let him know he heard him, while Monster-J remained quiet at the back, having his head between the two front seats.

Timi maintained his speed of 50kilometres per hour, and he once in a while checked on his passenger through the rear mirror. She must be in her late twenties he guessed. And by her look undoubtedly, she must be from Asia. Her beauty was flawless. In fact, he could say she was the most beautiful Asian woman he had ever met. Taller than the average Asian woman and with a skin that was capable of glowing in the darkest of nights.
He noticed that she had been busy with her phone ever since they left the airport, and the only times she looked up was twice when they were stopped by the traffic warden and the traffic lights at junctions.
“How long are you staying madam,” he broke the silence intentionally with the question.
"Three days I think,” she replied sounding unsure about how long she would be staying in the country.
Knowing that there would be another long silence after her reply, Timi put on the radio and changed the channel, until he got one that was playing music and left it there.
You are my African queen, girl of my dreams. You'll take me where I’ve never been. You make my heart Tingalingaling. The music blasted from the stereo.
"Is that 2face?" her voice came from behind.
"Yes,” Timi replied. He was surprised that a stranger was familiar with the Nigerian artist. He looked at her in the rear mirror, their eyes met and she smiled softly.
"You listen to Nigerian music?” he asked after removing the facemask on his face.
"Yes! of course, 2face, Davido and Wizkid. They are my favorite Nigerian artists,” she replied in an ascent that exposed her to be American despite looking Asian and the golden smile that adorned her face refused to fade away for some seconds.
As he looked at her bright beautiful angelic face in the mirror, he was tempted to give her a compliment. But, on a second thought, not wanting to sound flirty, he never did.
"That's good to know madam,” he replied and allowed her to enjoy the music uninterruptedly.
They were 30minutes away from the hotel, when they came to a halt when they ran into a heavy traffic jam. It was a common thing in Lagos for it was the most populous city in West Africa and virtually all races and tribes world over were represented there.
The sun was still up and doing. Blazing like it did not care if anyone baked or burned. This made the weather hot, so hot, that Timi wound up the window glasses and put on the air conditioner to regulate the temperature for the comfort of his client.
He always left the windows opened when ever he carried a first time visitor, so that they could start their experience of the nation right from the moment they left the airport. But this day, the weather was not friendly for such at all.
Hardly do people know that Cab driving has its own techniques and rules, he thought.
She sneezed and blew her nose and he checked on her through the mirror.
Holding a white handkerchief, she sneezed into it the second time.
"Pardon me,” she tried to be polite, and he told her not to worry.
As she blew her nose, there was a tap on the window glass beside her and she shifted her attention to it. A young boy was shoving some products in transparent nylon to her and seemed to be saying something.
"What does he want?" She asked her driver.
"He is calling your attention to what he is selling. Please ignore him," Timi replied.
He increased the speed of the car when the the traffic eased off, and to the amazement of his client, the boy selling the stuff ran after the car and was at the same speed with it, still holding his goods for her to see. He did this until he could not keep up with the vehicle's speed anymore as the car sped off.

Luke-the-dude kept nodding and humming as he drove. His mouth was busy chewing gum too. Monster-J on the other hand was busy cleaning his AK47 with a handkerchief, while Roja kept on thinking on how to carry out the operation in an easy way. There must be no flaws! He remembered the words of Evans.
Evans could be very deadly. He could be smiling with you and the next minute, pull a gun to your head. He was such an unpredictable psycho that was not worth daring. In anger he had killed guys who worked with him twice in Roja's presence simply because they could not execute a job successfully as he had expected. But that notwithstanding, he could be as nice as an angel sometimes too.
“Guys, get set!, we may not need to wait till they take a turn into a street anymore before striking,” Roja announced.
Obviously, he was becoming irritated and inpatient with the long trip that was seeming unending.
They were now approaching a roundabout, and looking from afar, it looked like there was another traffic jam ahead. Attacking at this kind of time could be dangerous, he thought. So, he decided to wait till when the traffic would become light to give the instruction.
“Boss! look at the back!” Luke-the-dude said after a look at the side mirror.
Roja and Monster-J at this instance looked back and saw a lorry load of soldiers six vehicles away. The soldiers were making some noise and singing.
“Soldiers! Oh! damn it!. Where could they be going?. This job is getting too long to execute,” Monster-J said, and immediately lowered the gun in his hand, and put it back under the seat.
Luke-the-dude kept his eyes on the Military truck behind and he saw eight soldiers jump down each holding an AK47 rifle. They were jogging up towards them.
“The soldiers are coming forward,” he quickly alerted his colleagues. And on hearing this, Roja checked through the side mirror and saw that it was true. Therefore, he cautioned Monster-J about the weapon in his hand.
“MJ be careful the soldiers are coming,“ he warned.
“It’s kept already boss,” Monster-J replied.
Roja nodded in commendation of Monster-J's swift action as he reached for his cigarette box in the vehicle compartment. He removed a stick of cigar, put it in between his lips and lighted it. And at the first inhaling and release of the smoke into the air, he sighed satisfactorily.
Within minutes, the soldiers had jogged past them and were instructing and yelling at every vehicle on the road for obstructing the free movement of the other road users.
Timi watched the soldiers as they directed the vehicles to ease the traffic. And not long after they got to the spot, the road became free and free flow of movement commenced again.
After another 5minutes of drive, Luke-the-dude and his colleagues were now close to the Taxi of Timi with only two vehicles in between them. The Military truck too was now three vehicles away to the SUV driven by Luke-the-dude.
“I hope these military boys won’t disturb our mission today,“ Roja blew the smoke into the air by turning and facing the window side to allowed the smoke go out of the car.
“I hope so too,” Luke-the-dude replied nodding to the spiritual beat he alone could hear in his head.
After almost 30minutes of driving after leaving the round about, they arrived at the junction that leads to the hotel. The taxi’s left pointer was on. Luke-the-dude saw it, and alerted Roja who was busy checking a message on his phone.
“Ok guys get set. We are about to strike now,” Roja informed his boys again, and MJ drew out his rifle from where it was kept, while Roja picked his pistol too.
Timi drove into the street on which the hotel was, and Luke-the-dude drove after him. He increased the speed of the SUV he drove to catch up with the Taxi and overtake it. But Monster-J looked back again at that time, and saw the military truck turn after them too.
“Boss! The military truck is right behind us again,” he announced.
“What the Bleep!” Roja cursed and smashed his hand on the dashboard.
“MJ! return the weapon now!” he ordered.
Monster-J quickly put back the rifle where it was taken from at Roja's instruction.
“Are they after us?” Luke-the-dude asked almost panicking.
“It can’t be. Let’s keep watching,” Roja said confidently.
Timi turned the taxi towards the hotel gate and pressed the horn to alert the gateman. Luke-the-dude on the other hand, drove forward and kept the vehicle going, having his eyes on the mirror. He slowed down and parked meters away, when he saw that the military truck had also stopped in front of the hotel too.
The hotel's gate man came forward to the taxi and bent his head to look at the faces of the cab occupants, and before he could utter a word, "She's lodging here," Timi announced to him.
"You are welcome, please use your face masks,” the fat gate man said and gave Timi a plastic tally with No. 25 written boldly on it. That reminded Timi of his birthday and he smiled as he collected it. He was born on Christmas day and he believed 25 to be his lucky number.
“The day is going to be a lucky day,” He mumbled.
Slowly, he drove in and packed at the entrance of the reception. The military truck drove in too after the taxi, after being attended to by the gateman. Ten soldiers jumped down with their bags and rifles from it after it pulled up.
One of them was supported by the side, by one of his colleagues and he limped as he walked. They had come to town for guerilla warfare training at the second battalion headquarters and were lodging at the hotel for two days before they would return back to their various States.
After Timi had packed the car, and his client had got down, he got down also, and hastily walked to the back of the car to fetch the suitcases from the booth. While he fetched the luggage, his passenger stood in front of the magnificent twelve storey building and admired its unique architectural design which stood elegantly like a masterpiece work of art among other buildings in the area. On its body was a reflection of the golden sky, surrounding landscapes which had been lightened up by the blazing sun and various activities going around it. Apart from its name, The Palmgroove Hotel, Its glass covered body earned it a nickname among residents. The called it The Glass House. The exterior appearance was impressive and the Asian woman loved it.
Timi walked back to her with the suitcases and they both walked into the hotel reception. She walked in front, while he came behind with her luggage.

Watching her walk before him, his mind went to the fashion shows he used to watch on the fashion television channel and there was no difference between her steps and the ones in those shows. She had the shape of a model and her curves were perfect. Her behind was perfectly round and firm, bouncing seductively as she walked. Every Asian ladies he had met or seen on TV, none was endowed with such a round and firm buttocks like the woman walking before him, he thought.
At the thought of her tempting figure, he could imagined how lovely it would be to hold her in his arms and he could literarily hear his heart scream to have her. She looked like his dream woman. They were almost getting to the reception desk when he snapped himself out of the day dreaming and forced his eyes away from her curvy body. He doubled up his steps to walk by her side, and cautioned himself not to go lusting after her.
They both walked into the reception and were met with warm smiles from two beautiful ladies in T-shirts bearing the logo and name of the hotel. Being always conscious of time, he dropped his client's suitcases and told her he wanted to leave.
"Oh!” she exclaimed and blew her nose, sneezed, and reached for her purse.
"Thank you, Mr. ..?" she said, making a gesture that suggested that he should fill in the gap and he replied, "Timi".
“Yeah! Mr. Timi thanks for the trip,” she said, and hurriedly put her hand in her purse and gave him three ten dollar notes.
"I am yet to change the currency. I hope you don't mind,” she pleaded.
"No! Not at all madam, and thanks for patronizing me," Timi replied.
On counting the notes, he notified his client of the huge difference:
“Ma’am, this is double the amount of the fare,” he told her but she responded with a flip of the hand,
“It’s okay. You can keep it as a tip,“ she replied and faced the hotel workers to know about their services. She felt tired and could not wait to take a cold shower and rest.
Remembering that he had gotten double the amount he was supposed to be paid by the current exchange rate, he was full of gratitude and smiles as he walked out of the hotel lobby whistling. Every encounter with number 25 oftentimes attracted favour, he believed. But for the pretty lady's sneeze, he pitied her. The city of Lagos could be dusty sometimes because of the bad roads, and foreigners who are allergic to dust could easily catch Catarrh through it. She will get over it. He concluded as he left the hotel premises.
Monster-J was instructed to go and survey the activities within the hotel compound, and was lucky that the gate was left half opened all the while he reclined on the electric pole adjacent the hotel gate. He smoked a cigar and pretended to be not concerned about the activities going on in the hotel premises when in the real sense he was at the spot to spy. He had witnessed the military truck leave after some soldiers disembarked from it and walked into the hotel lobby. He had also seen the taxi driver leave without the lady he brought. But when the hotel gate was closed by the gateman not long after Timi had left, Monster-J walked back to his colleagues to inform them about all he had noticed at the spy post and they remained in the car to change their strategy of getting the job done. If they should attempt to kidnap the lady within the premises of the hotel, the soldiers who had lodged at the hotel would repel them and it would be a bloody operation. So, in the mean time, they put heads together to come up with a perfect strategy.
At the reception, after all the paper work was done, Jane was ushered up the stairs to her room by one of the ladies, while the other lady attended to the soldiers.

Straight, Timi went back to the airport to pick a new client. The traffic was light when he drove back and it was not long when he arrived again at the taxi tarmac of the airport. He drove into the park and pulled over, wasted no time before he got down and locked his cab. Then, he walked into the airport to scramble for a client as usual.
Sometimes, it was like a thug of war between the cab drivers to woo the arriving passenger to patronize them. They scuttled on each flight arrival to entice the visitors and the returning residents. It could take a long while sometimes to get a new client depending on the number of passengers that came with each aircraft. When the number was much, it boosted the chances of getting a new passenger on time.
Luckily, within fifteen minutes, Timi came out of the airport with a Caucasian American expatriate who had just arrived from the U.S. He was a resident coming back into the country after an official business trip. He told Timi he lived on the Victoria Island and that, that was the place Timi was to take him.
Like everyone, he had a mask on his nose and mouth. And all the conversation and the bargaining between him and Timi was done behind the nose mask. After putting his passenger's hand luggage into the taxi boot and his passenger had entered the back seat of his cab, Timi sat behind the wheel to turn on the ignition. He was still adjusting his seatbelt when the passenger addressed him from the behind back seat.
"Hi! Who owns this?" the man held up a Credit Card he had found on the floor of the car and handed it over to Timi.
Curiously, Timi looked at the name on the card and it was, Jane Aimi Cho.
"Oh! It must be for a passenger I drove to a hotel almost an hour ago," he said.
Although, not that he knew her name because she did not mention her name to him all the time she spent in his cab, she was the first passenger he had for the day, and that notwithstanding, he was familiar with such names through his interaction with clients over the years as a cab driver. They belong to the Asian people and his first client of the day was Asian by the looks.
He flung the card on the dashboard and his hand went back to the key in the ignition hole to start the vehicle.
"Thanks Sir," he said, as he started the car engine and drove off.
As they went on the journey, he thought of how worried the Asian lady must have been to have lost her credit card. More so, that she was not having his contact. He believed she must have been disturbed because of it. And to that end, he made up his mind to return back to the hotel after dropping off his present client at the Island.
In no time, they got to the man's residence at Victoria Island area of Lagos. It was a nicely built white bungalow, surrounded with a well taken care of lawn and plants. A boy of about 12 years ran out when he heard the cab enter the compound. He was an half-caste.
“Daddy, daddy!!“ he shouted happily.
He joyously came close to the cab after Timi pulled up, and the man got down and walked hastily to give him a hug. But before he hugged the child, he brought out a bottle of sanitizer from his khaki jacket, poured the content on his palm and rubbed the liquid on his hands before hugging the boy. And it was when Timi saw him do that, that he remembered he needed to act likewise when he would be set to drive back. He had forgotten to sanitize his hands since he started work that morning even after his contact with the first client of the day.
Timi looked at the two, and he could feel the bond between them. The man ran his hand on the boy's head and mumbled some words into his ears, and the boy shouted excitedly.
As this was going on, a tall beautiful chocolate skin woman came out from the house, full of smiles. Happiness was written all over her face and her smiles seemed to have the energy to lighten up the darkest room.
"Welcome darling," she walked hurriedly towards the man.
The man left the boy instantly and moved to her, giving her a long warm embrace. They began to talk and her ascent revealed she was a Nigerian.
Having brought out the luggage already, Timi walked up with it to the foot of the stairs and put it down. Afterwards, he went back to meet the man who was busy telling the young boy something quietly.
“Sir, I am ready to go,” Timi announced.
At once, the man straightened up and brought out some new 1,000 naira notes from the front pocket of his jeans trousers. He counted eight notes and handed it over to Timi. That was eight thousand naira instead of five Timi was entitled to. Three thousand naira extra was not something ordinary. A beam of gratitude was revealed by a bright smile on Timi's face, and gladly he said, “Thank you sir”. The man smiled back with a “don’t mention” kind of look and returned his attention back to his wife and child. He promptly walked away with the woman and the kid, and a young man came out to pick the luggage inside their home.
Happy for a day of tipping-galore, Timi entered his car whistling and dangling his head as he drove off gladly. It was always a good omen every time he came across the number 25. What followed was always a bundle of blessings. He smiled, amusing himself in his strange belief.
. . .

“HELLO BOSS, I will call you back,” Roja stopped the conversation he was having with Evans when he saw the Uber taxi return to the hotel from the distance the SUV he and his colleagues drove to the area was parked.
He was briefing Evans on the reason why the kidnap was yet to be executed.
“Is that not the same Uber taxi?” he asked Luke-the-dude and Monster-J who were listening to the report he was giving to Evans.
“Yes it is,” Monster-J answered.
“That Bob Marley's Sticker on the back windscreen reveals it to be,” he added with his usual cool tone.
“She must have probably sent the driver on an errand,” Luke-the-dude guessed.
“What ever it is, we might have to add the guy to the catch eventually,” Roja glanced at the two guys’ faces as if he was trying to get their approval on what he said, but non of them uttered a word because he was their superior in crime and his words were mostly final.
“MJ, go back to the watch post,” Roja ordered. And Monster-J stepped out of the car and went back to the spot where he did the spying.
Timi drove into the hotel compound and the fat gateman quickly recognized him.
“Here to see our customer?” He asked and Timi gave him a “Yes” accompanied by a nod. And this time around, not giving Timi a tally number, he opened the gate and let him in.
Timi drove to the parking lot and pulled up. Always conscious of time, he picked up the credit card from the dashboard and put it in his shirt pocket and then, without delay, he got down. As he locked the car door, he checked his wrist watch and it was exactly 12:45pm. In haste, he dashed towards the hotel reception all because he wanted to do quick, so that he could be able to pick at least two more clients at the airport before the end of the day.
At the reception desk, he met one of the girls this time around. He asked to see the Asian woman and the receptionist put a call through to the guest's room. He watched her as she talked. After a few seconds, the receptionist handed the receiver over to him.
“She wants to talk to you,” she announced.
“Hello, Mr. Timi. I hope there is no problem?” Her angelic voice glided through the receiver and her question revealed nothing but that she was yet to know that her credit card was missing.
“You dropped your credit card in my cab. Are you Jane Aimi Cho?” he asked.
“Yes! Oh!, yes!“ she replied and he could feel surprise in her reaction.
“Please give the receiver back to the receptionist,“ she pleaded. And he, giving the phone receiver back to the lady, announced, ”She wants to talk to you”.
He took a look at the watch again and he felt uneasy. He hated working late into the night and that was why he worked with time all the time.
After a while of listening on phone, facing him and dropping the receiver the receptionist said, “Room 42. She said you should come up,” She pointed to the staircase and right away, he marched there to go upstairs.
Being in a hurry, he almost fell from the stairs. He had miscalculated his steps and stumbled. But all thanks to a timely reflex that save him from tumbling down from the middle of the stairs to the base. He had quickly grabbed the rail and moved on.
Finally, he got to the door with number 42, and with a tap on the door, the door opened gently and he walked in. Surprisingly, she was not in the room. She must have left the door unlocked because of me, he thought. He could hear her sneeze amidst the sound of splashes of water in the bathroom.
On hearing this, he moved the small luggage that was on the chair to the floor, and pushed it under the writing table, so that he could sit down and wait.
“Good afternoon Miss Cho,” he greeted her and sat down on the small cushion chair.
“Mr. Timi, I am so grateful,” she said from the bathroom.
“You are welcome madam,” he replied.
He looked at his watch and it was 1:00pm. He needed to make some quick bucks before the day ran out. So he was impatient.
“Should I drop the card on the table and go?” he inquired.
Although, he wanted to leave because of his business, he did not want to disturb her too, since it was a single room and she would need to dress up after leaving the bathroom. Dressing up in his presence would look awkward and embarrassing. And it was against his Christian faith.
“No! wait. I will soon be out,” she replied, sneezing twice in-between the sentence.
With the reply, he realized he had no choice but to wait. So, he accepted the fact that it might not be possible for him to go back to the airport again until the day after. After all, he had made more money through the tips and it would make up for not being able to work till his normal closing time of 5pm.

Chapter 3

He sat comfortably on the cushion chair awaiting her to be through. While he waited, his eyes took a stroll around the entire room. And as his eyes surveyed about, he concluded she must be a fashion freak by the reason of what he was seeing in the opened luggage. Beside the luggage was a trinket box that was left opened and in it were manners of jewelries that looked exotic. While on the bedsheets, were cloths and under wears scattered here and there. He could also see a fat envelope slightly opened, revealing new dollar notes. He heard her sneeze again and not long after then, she opened the bathroom door.
“Sorry, Mr. Timi for taking your time,” she said politely stepping out into the room.
She had only a white towel rapped around her bosom.
“Not to worry,” he replied. His eyes almost popping out of their sockets in appreciation of her flawless skin and beauty. She was absolutely sexy, he thought.
As he watched her search through the luggage, he wondered where her kind used to be when the most beautiful girls were being chosen at both the national and the international beauty pageants. She could virtually win a beauty pageant effortlessly, he concluded.
“Do you know I never knew I lost it until you came? And I would have been utterly destabilized, if I had lost it completely,” she sneezed again, reaching for her handkerchief to wipe her running nose.
“Is there any hospital nearby? I think I have cold,” she asked.
“Yes, there are hospitals around. I had actually wanted to suggest that to you earlier,” he replied.
“It’s the Nigerian atmosphere I think,” Timi said, still having his eyes on her glowing skin.
“Yeah!, I thought as much. For it all started after we left the airport, and I wondered what the hell was causing it,” she said and reached for one pant and one bra among the pile of clothes on the bed. And immediately, she left for the bathroom again.
Timi looked at his watch again and it was 1:15pm. He, knowing that he would not be able to go back to the airport again for business if the woman delayed him further, completely relaxed on the cushion chair and fiddled with his smart phone.
Some minutes after, Jane was back in the room with only the pant and bra on, and Timi felt embarrassed. He could not actually figure out why a total stranger he had just met less than an hour ago, could be so free in his presence to the extent of going half naked. Here she was, so tempting in every way.
His mind raced in thought, imagining her completely naked. She was a busty lady and almost half of her boobs were revealed through the lace bra that exposed all her cleavages. Fresh like ripe mangoes, they were dangerously eye popping. As she walked around and bent to pick things, they jiggled to the rhythm of her steps and movement and only the most holy hearts would not be enticed by them. He really felt it was wrong for him to remain there while she remained half naked. So, he suggested, “can I excuse you and wait down stairs at the reception while you dress up?” trying to be polite as he made a move to stand up.
“No! don’t trouble yourself, only if you feel uneasy,” she replied smiling.
Timi accepted to stay. He watched her select cloths and struggle to wear her tight jeans trousers.
“What do you do madam?” Timi asked to kill the silence and keep his mind away from her sensual figure which was already arousing him.
“Call me Jane, please. I am a model,” she replied and having already put on her jeans trousers, she went in search of a top to match.
“Yes! I knew it!” He soliloquized under the face mask, but she heard him.
“How do you mean?” She asked and sneezed wiping her nose with the handkerchief and walking toward the table where her purse was, she picked it up, and came over to him stretching her hand to get the card from him.
“The card please!” She requested and he picked it from his shirt's front pocket and handed it over to her.
“You cat-walk unconsciously,” he remarked and got a bright sexy smile from her.
“And you are a very beautiful woman, I must say too,” he quickly seized the opportunity to express his mind about her beauty. And like a rush of soothing breeze, he felt a wind of relief blow through his mind and he was pleased.
“Thanks, people…,” and there was a seizure of words until she sneezed.
“Sorry, people say so,” she said and sneezed again. She put the credit card in her purse and grabbed her hand bag and her room key. Then, she walked up to him, and turned her back to him.
“Please help me with the blouse button,” she pleaded. And gladly, he stood up to do it. Forthwith, when he had gotten closer to her to perform her request and perceived her perfume, he agreed that nothing smelled more inviting.
The button done, and she signaled for them to go. Her black blouse on her blue jeans with a matching pink sneakers complimented her beauty, and he could not think of the right words to describe her ravaging beauty.
“I came for some commercial video shoots for an international brand and we are starting tomorrow morning. But now that I feel strange and tired, how do I cope? Could it be jet lag or something?” she asked under the nose mask, while they descended the stairs.
“Yeah! I think so and coupled with the change in weather too,” he replied.
Walking beside her, he could feel the pulling force of the cent of her perf. It absolutely matched her personality and he guessed it must be expensive too.
At their last steps at the base of the stairs into the reception room, they saw two soldiers standing by the desk. One of them was the limping soldier.
Obviously, he looked sickly like he needed urgent medical help. He rested on the shoulder of the other soldier and was groaning.
“Please ladies, do you know any hospital around here?” the healthy looking soldier asked the receptionists as he tried to adjust the AK 47 rifle at his other side.
“Yes there are two that are not far from here,” one of the ladies replied behind her face mask.
“Pick a cab outside the hotel gate and ask to be taken to Merryland hospital,” the other receptionist added.
Jane overheard them as she and Timi walked past, and she quietly asked Timi if he could give them a lift to the hospital and he obliged.
“Your wish is my command madam,” he replied jokingly, and Jane gave him a frown.
“Jane, please!“. She insisted to be called by her name.
“Oh!, I’m sorry. Yes, Jane,” Timi corrected himself smiling.
Returning his smile with a smile, she sneezed and walked away to the taxi.
Timi walked back to the soldiers and informed them that they were going to the hospital too. He asked them if they would like to join them and they were happy to say yes.

Monster-J had been back adjacent the hotel gate and had waited for so long. He was reclining against the electric pole making a false call every time the gateman opened the gate. So, when Timi drove out of the hotel, he noticed that the occupants of the car were four and two were soldiers. The Japanese girl sat at the front, while the soldiers occupied the back seat.
Doing exactly what he was sent to the spot to do, he hurriedly left to inform his team about the new development. And off, they drove after Timi’s cab at a distance.
Roja's phone rang and he picked it. He held the phone with the left hand and a stick of cigar with the other hand. It was Evans that was calling.
“Boss, do you remember the soldiers I told you about? Two of them left the hotel right now with the target in the same cab that brought her to the hotel. We don’t know where exactly they are heading to, but we are trailing them,” Roja said.
Sounding calm, Evans replied with a tone of assurance that all was still in order:
“Don’t worry much. I just got an information from our partner in Japan that she will be in this nation for the next three days,” Evans said.
“OK then, boss. I had wanted to ask if we should strike not minding the military boys,” Roja said as he smoked his cigar puffing and blowing the smoke intermittently.
“No! that would be a bloody operation and such is not needed in this situation. Just keep trailing them. We will get our target at last. Talk to you later,” Evans concluded and ended the call. Then, he reached for his pipe, filled it up with tobacco, and lighted it. Taking a drag of the smoke, he sighed. And the thought of quitting crime ran through his mind. He had promised himself to quit the next year for by then, he would have made enough money to venture into the oil and gas business. Crime doesn’t last for ever but legitimate businesses do. That was the quote that always reminded him of his mother's warnings.

When Timi drove out of the hotel, he contemplated on which hospital would be the best to take Jane to. The closest and the best his mind opted for was St. Luke’s Hospital. It was owned by the Catholic Mission. And it was one of the best in the country as their services was topnotch. In the past, he had taken some of his clients there and it was on their recommendations he based his judgement.
Timi headed to St. Luke's hospital keeping an eye on the two sick people in his taxi. Jane kept sneezing all the way and was beginning to have a headache, while the wounded soldier groaned all the way too, because he was in a very bad shape. His broken leg was his source of discomfort.
Within forty minutes after leaving the hotel, they got to the hospital and they drove into its parking area. The car pulled up and they all got down from the vehicle. Timi locked his car and led the soldiers and Jane into the hospital.
The three kidnappers that trailed them to the hospital waited in the SUV they occupied outside the hospital premises. They had to be careful with the abduction so that the soldiers would not repel them.

At the hospital reception hall, he sat on the metal chairs and waited for Jane, while she and the soldiers were being attended to. The wounded soldier got the injury during their training the day before, and like his subordinate narrated to Timi on their way to the hospital, he had been attended to by the military doctors, who gave him injections and had assured him he would be fine. But when he developed fever hours after the medical attention and the pain escalated, he decided to visit a hospital immediately.
Timi watched Jane fill some forms on the counter and so also the wounded soldier. And after all the documentation, he saw her and the wounded soldier ushered into the consultation rooms.
He remained seated on one of the metal chairs meant for patients and visitors. A lady was sitting next to him. She was light complexioned. Timi accessed her to be a tall person, judged by her long legs and body frame. Glancing at Timi once in a while with the eyes that were almost touched by the flower designed facemask, there was no doubt she had an interest in him and wanted to start a conversation at all cost. She had started eyeing him the moment he sat beside her and Timi was aware of her body language.
“Hi! May I know the time please?” she gave Timi a smile that was seductive enough to attract even the Pope.
Timi took his phone out from his trouser pocket, took a look at the screen and replied, “2:58”.
“Thanks. The day is so hot and humid,” she turned to look at him.
“Yeah! So hot!” He replied and he quickly added, “it’s the season, or what do you think?”
“Yes, it’s the season. How I wish the raining season had started already,” she winked.
Although, Timi understood every of her gestures, ladies with small or average bosom never appeared attractive to him. He preferred ladies' bosoms large or extra large and that sounded like what Jane possessed in addition to her super curves.
They were still talking when a girl of about 15years of age came and joined her.
“Are you through already?” she asked, and the girl nodded in the affirmative, adjusting her facemask.
“Sorry, I need to leave. She’s my sister. She came for treatment and she’s through with it. I am Folake, I work with the Black Diamond Bank,” she gave him her hand for a shake.
“It's a pleasure meeting you, I am Timi, I drive Uber, and I am here with a client,” Timi shook her hand and gave her a warm smile.
She returned his smile with a smile as she grabbed the hand of the young girl and said, “bye”. But then, after three steps away from him, she stopped and walked back. She dipped her hand in her bag and brought out a card.
“Here is my card,” she said. Her smile, seductive.
Timi collected it out of polity and smiled again.
He was a ladies man and he knew it. He did not only have a handsome face but was tall and athletic also. Consecutively twice, he had won Mr. Uni-Ace in his undergraduate days at the Ace University. Wooed by ladies many times, and even fought over by them, he was never a womanizer. He was a one lover at a time kind of man. And in fact, despite his good looks, he had no girlfriend at that moment and had no intention to have one until he was buoyant enough financially. He was forced to believe money sustains love by a bad experience he had when his girlfriend of almost two years jilted him for a rich guy six months back. And in his words, the guy could pass for the record of the ugliest man in the world without a stress. Although the ugly man was famous and known by everyone as Tall Joe, a name that was contrary to his size being so short that he could be called a pygmy, in addition to his dwarf size, he had a head that could make Humpty Dumpty feel envious and a set of eyes that could win him a contest in the owl kingdom. But above all, his bank account was so fat that he won the customer of the year award consecutively for three years from the three foremost banks in the country. But when his time was up to be exposed of his source of wealth, he was arrested for fraud by the Interpol on the Christmas day of the previous year, and was promptly sent for trial in Bangkok and subsequently jailed there. And when Timi heard about his arrest on the 25th of that December, his belief about 25 being a lucky number was strengthened.
While waiting for Jane to be through, he thought it wise to call his mum to say hello. It was quite almost two weeks when they spoke last and he missed her. And when she received his call, she was more than excited. They had talked for almost an hour that he was not aware that Jane's consultation was actually taking a longer time than necessary.
He was still on phone when a nurse came to call him and he had to excuse himself from the phone conversation to give the nurse his attention.
“The doctor needs to see you in his office,“ the nurse informed him from some meters away.
Timi left for the doctor’s room immediately, wondering what could be the reason why his attention was needed. The consultation room being a few meters away from where he stood up from made it a matter of a few steps to be furnished with what he was wondering about. He got to the door, tapped it before opening it, and stepped inside the room. The room was of moderate size and in it was a leather top single bed placed by the left side of the room, and a writing desk in-between Jane and the doctor. And on the desk was a stethoscope, a sphygmomanometer, pieces of papers, two writing pens and a few bottles of injections. Like every other walls of the interior of the hospital, the walls were in cream.
On seat was Jane, directly opposite the doctor. She looked paler than how she looked before she entered the consultation room and she was quiet. The doctor wore a face mask and gloves and he instantly diverted his attention to Timi when he sighted him.
Timi’s instincts told him something was wrong, but he did not know what exactly it was.
“Are you the driver that brought Miss Jane?” the doctor asked.
“Yes,” Timi answered and the question confirmed to him that his instincts was right. Something was actually wrong.
“You won’t be going home today Sir,” the doctor looked straight into Timi's eyes.
“Why?” Timi asked.
“I’m sorry, Miss Jane tested positive for COVID- 19, and you are one of her contacts,” the Doctor announced.
“What! Coronavirus?” Timi exclaimed in shock and he sharply turned to look at Jane. She had her eyes staring at the floor.
“Corona virus? Oh, my God!” Timi exclaimed again.
On the spot, a very strong heat arose within him and sweat formed urgently on his face for he panicked. The doctor continued talking but for some time, he could not really pick anything from all he was saying. His mind had traveled far. It was the social media videos of COVID-19 effect on China and Italy that started playing in his head. How it had killed thousands and rendered their government almost hopeless. He sighed and shivered for fear.
“I have pulled a call through to the government agency taking care of this, and you don’t need to fear at all. The government has made adequate preparation for it, and there are doctors already on ground to deal with the situation,” the doctor assured them.
Timi looked over to Jane and he saw tears roll down her cheek.
“Jane! Jane, you will be fine,” he summoned courage to utter the words to console her. But sincerely, deep down within him, he was terribly worried for his own life as well.
Jane looked at him and said, “I am sorry for the trouble I have put you through,” and tears strolled down her cheeks again. She wiped her face with the back of her hand and sighed.
“Miss, this is not a death sentence. A lot of people caught the virus and survived it,” the doctor said, to encourage her to be strong.
“Common! Take these and put them on. You are going to be fine,” he said again, as he gave them face rubber gloves.
They collected the gloves and put them on. And while the doctor was still talking, there was a knock on the door and two men and a woman came in. They wore face masks, gloves and overall suits of rubber. Timi looked at them and uttered inaudible words under his face mask. And Jane on sighting them, became more worried too. She hoped all that was happening to her was but a dream.
“You are welcome,” the doctor said.
“She is the one who tested positive and he is the driver that brought her,” he informed the health officers.
“Alright, the rest of our team are outside. They will help in sanitizing the hospital and also tell you other things you should do. Please don’t allow anyone in or out of the hospital from now on, until our team are through with their job. It is important for the safety of everyone,“ one of the men in overall suit instructed the doctor and afterwards told Timi and Jane to follow them.
Jane began to sob and Timi kept on encouraging her to be strong. But she continued to sob till they got out of the hospital.
Outside the hospital, Jane and Timi saw 13 medical officers who were in the same rubber suits as the ones who came to fetch them at the doctor's office. Some were holding spraying guns and tanks of sanitizers and were already spraying the hospital premises with disinfectant. Others were addressing the nurses and the doctors, while all patients were advised to stay where they were, so that the spots and places where Jane and Timi had contact with could be disinfected before normal movements and activities commenced again. The soldiers who came with Timi and Jane were sought after but they were discovered to have left back to the hotel once they were through with their consultation and treatment. Therefore, another team of medical experts were sent immediately to the hotel.

Monster-J remained at his spy post in front of the hospital. He did not know what exactly was transpiring inside but he saw the two soldiers left the hospital environment in another taxi. He sat on a pavement adjacent the hospital gate fiddling with his cellphone.
The three medical officers who were in the doctor's office with Jane and Timi occupied one of the white 16seater buses that brought the medical crew to the hospital and told one of their colleagues to join Timi and Jane in Timi's taxi. Timi opened the back door of his cab for Jane to sit, he walked back to the front of the car and entered the driver’s side, then he turned on the ignition. The medical officer sat in front beside him.
“Jane, you know what? Don’t panic,” Timi said and then, he drove behind the 18seater bus as ordered.
When Monster-J saw the cab come out, he noticed they were three in the vehicle and that the cab was following the white bus. So, he left the spot quickly to inform his team about the latest development. And quickly, their car driven by Luke-the-dude pursued after the two vehicles at once.
“Now guys, this is the time we have been waiting for!” Roja announced.
“Overtake them now!” he ordered Luke-the-dude and immediately, Luke-the-dude increase the car speed to overtake the two vehicles in front of them.
In minutes, the SUV overtook both the taxi and the bus, and slowed down before it stopped in front of the vehicle's right in the middle of the road forcing both the medical vehicle and Timi's car to stop.
Monster-J and Roja opened the doors of the SUV instantly and jumped down. They pointed their guns at the occupants of both vehicles who became afraid for their lives at the sight of rifles in the hands of the ones who forced their vehicles to a halt. Monster-J entered Timi's cab and sat at the back seat with Jane, while Luke-the-dude picked his bag and left the SUV to take over the driver’s seat of the 18seater bus after ordering the driver to go and seat with the other medical officials at the back seats. Roja sat in the midst of the medical team and he sternly warned them to obey his instructions and never try to free themselves or alert anyone of their abduction if they did not want to die. He ordered Luke-the-dude to turn on the ignition and drive the bus and also ordered Timi to drive his taxi behind the bus. The official bus of the medical workers and Timi's taxi sped off, while the SUV was left at the middle of the road.
Roja and his team knew the police must have been informed about the hijacked SUV and they must have been on their trail since it was hijacked in the morning.
Jane, who was perplexed watching the whole incident was not really sure if it was not a nightmare. She kept quiet but kept sneezing and wiping her drooling nose. She was seeing her father's fear about her trip to Africa playing out like in a movie.
“Timi what is happening?” She summoned courage to ask not minding the mean looking man that sat beside her, holding a rifle. She was in bewilderment.
“Jane, I don’t know, but I think we have been kidnapped,” Timi replied as he kept driving and following the bus in front, according to the order of the armed man who sat behind him.
“kidnapped?” Jane exclaimed and started another round of sob.
“Jane, be calm!” Timi urged her.
“Hey! Hello, you two. You. Should. Be. Quiet!” Monster-J said softly, picking his words one after the other.
Jane gave Monster-J a glance, and the look on his face sent down cold shiver into her spine. She sneezed again and she could feel a slight headache across her forehead. She held her head in her hand and Timi noticed her actions through the rear mirror.
“Jane, how are you feeling?" Timi asked as he drove.
“I have a headache,” Jane replied.
“Sorry,” Timi said.
The medical officer who sat at the front seat beside Timi kept quiet, wondering why the two abductees would not keep quiet as instructed by the daredevil holding a gun in their midst.

Luke-the-dude drove the bus towards the forestry reserve area of the City and Timi followed with his cab as instructed. In twenty minutes, they got to the bush and everyone was ordered to get down except Timi, Jane and Monster-J. The place was a thick tropical bush set aside by the government to preserve nature and promote tree planting for the local production of timbers and forestry research. It was a place that no one visited except the governmental researchers who did not visit the place often.
Roja ordered the four medical officials to sit on the ground, back to back in twos, he brought out a rope from his pocket, walked to the first two and tied them together and instantly walked to the other two, and tied them together. When he was through with this, he turned to Luke-the-dude and said, “I need the sealer!” And promptly, Luke-the-dude, hurriedly went back to the bus to collect his bag.
"Here it is,” he said giving Roja a role of black nylon tape. Roja collected it, and used it to seal the mouths of the four guys sitting on the ground.
“Pray someone comes around to set you free. Else, you will all die here,” he told the medical officials without a bit of pity.
He faced Luke-the-dude and ordered him to enter Timi's taxi. Luke-the-dude entered the back seat by the left, while Monster-J maintain his spot beside Jane. Now, Jane found herself in-between Luke-the-dude and Monster-J and helplessly, she felt like she was caught up in-between two demons. Roja sat at the front seat beside Timi who maintained his driver’s seat.
“Start the engine and drive Mr. Uber!” Roja said, sarcastically and Monster-J and Luke-the-dude burst into laughter.
“Follow my order so that you can stay alive and don’t play any silly pranks,” Roja warned Timi.
“Okay Sir,” Timi replied.
“Put on the radio!” Roja ordered him.
He did not wait a second before he obeyed Roja's order. And after he had put on the radio, Roja ordered him again to keep changing the channels until he got to a channel where News was being broadcast and he told him to leave it there. Roja wanted to know if any of the attacks had become news and also to know what steps are been taken by the police to track down the perpetrators.
He picked his phone and dialed Evans number. And his husky voice came online.
“Hello, Roja,” Evans yawned. He was woken from sleep by the ringing phone.
“Yes boss, operation successful. On the way with the target and her driver,” Roja reported.
“Wow!, good job guys, I'm proud of you. Expecting you,” Evans said excitedly and ended the call. He stood up from the bed and walked out of the VIP room to get prepared for the new captives who were on their way.

A major flaw in logic with this write up was exclusion of the soldiers who boarded the Uber with Jane and Timi from being isolated, the flaw will put off scientifically minded people from patronizing this work.

I'm serious OP, you may probably have concluded that a lot of youths want that. But there are several readers here that appreciate a well written literally work irrespective of whether it contains +18 scenes or not.
