Probable starting XIs:

Sunderland: Mignolet; Bardsley, Brown, Bramble, Richardson; Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, Colback; Bendtner, Sessegnon

Chelsea: Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, Mikel, Malouda; Anelka, Torres

Andre Villas-Boas takes his new-look Chelsea side to Sunderland on Saturday aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

After being held by Stoke in their season opener, the Blues have moved onto seven points thanks to wins over West Brom and Norwich.

Sunderland find themselves in 13th spot having failed to win any of their three outings and manager Steve Bruce will be desperate to get their campaign up and running with success over the title challengers.

It is just the second time in a Premier League campaign that Sunderland have failed to secure a win in their opening three games, the previous occasion coming in the 2004/05 season.

The Black Cats have a horrendous Premier League record against Chelsea, having lost 12 of their last 13 league meetings with their opponents, although they did claim a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge last season.
Sunderland news

Bruce has a new striker in his ranks in the shape of Arsenal loanee Nicklas Bendtner, although the Denmark international has just two days' training under his belt for Sunderland.

However, he is a man in form following his brace in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Norway and he could replace Ghanaian ace Asamoah Gyan who is out after damaging his hamstring on international duty.

Bruce has one enforced change at the back from the side that secured a goalless draw at Swansea City following Anton Ferdinand's deadline day sale to newly-promoted QPR.

Defensive duo Titus Bramble and Michael Turner featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly for the club on Wednesday and the former is expected to come in for Ferdinand against Chelsea.

New signing Raul Meireles could make his Chelsea debut at the Stadium of Light following his surprise deadline day switch from rivals Liverpool.

First-choice keeper Petr Cech, defender David Luiz and striker Daniel Sturridge are also in contention for a starting place at the Stadium of Light, but Ivorian ace Didier Drogba is still recovering from a head injury.

Czech Republic shot-stopper Cech is back sooner than expected from a knee problem, Luiz has recovered from a thigh complaint and Sturridge is available following his three-match ban, while Michael Essien (knee) is a long-term absentee.

French striker Nicolas Anelka could get the nod for Villas-Boas having netted seven goals for the Blues in five league clashes with Sunderland, with veteran Drogba out with a head injury.

Big summer signing Juan Mata could also be given his full Premier League debut having made a goalscoring debut off the bench in their 3-1 home win over Norwich.

Mata popping up everywhere big enough for a body.

Lamps has not been useless. He's been slow but he's been doing great.
I am very impressed with Mata and Meireles. Ramires has been making runs as well. (can't believe I am praising Ramires).

I keep forgetting Anelka upfront is one fabulous option.

Re: Sunderland Vs Chelsea (1 - 2) On Saturday September 10th 2011 by nateevs(m): 4:26pm On Sep 10, 2011
We are strong in defence, more mobile in attack but the midfield has gone to sleep in the second half. Lamps is strolling now.
Re: Sunderland Vs Chelsea (1 - 2) On Saturday September 10th 2011 by nateevs(m): 4:29pm On Sep 10, 2011
Mata taking all set-pieces now. That makes a lot of sense.
