I understand but then even CBN agree that they have not printed enough new naira notes that's the problem

Yes, whether it is deliberate or not, not printing enough new notes has curbed vote buying.

If Emefiele releases N1T in new notes today, the agitation will reduce, because politicians will get at least 30%. Then they'd triage. Funnel most of the money to the battleground states in the North. Party chieftains will receive alert or dollars rather than the customary sacks of cash.

So you can see why Emefiele is dragging his feet with pushing more notes into circulation. He deliberate released only 500-700B, if the governors are to be believed. The politicians mopped many and thought the spigot will continue flowing. When he shut the spigot, they sensed foul play, and are now insisting their old stash be allowed to be legal tender.

500B is not enough to keep the economy going and induce voters.

Reason why the druggie opined that CBN print more notes some years ago. The druggie had in mind to stockpile the notes for future election use. Nigeria cannot be given to the highest bidder again. Enough is enough.
MadeInTokyo:
That 22 billion Tinubu money Which are in 1000 naira and 500 Naira denomination and stored in Kano state government facility meant for vote buying in the North West has become waste , useless and and now tissue papers, it will be hard converting them into 200 Naira notes with less than 9 day to election and CBN will not circulate up to 1 billion naira worth of 200 Naira notes back to the economy before election.

Whether it is true that the policy would prevent vote buying remain to be seen.
The worst thing that can happen to a nation,is to have a bad leader either through out-rigging or vote buying.

He has the ability to mop up printed funds through bank MDs, cbn already know the amount of 1k and 500 in their hands. I would have preferred this uppercut about 5 days to election

The question is why was Lagos LP rally 'massive'. Since they don't use money to mobilize people.

Most people are talking about billions stashed away by politicians but your President just said that 2.7 trillion of the old notes representing about 80% has been retrieved by CBN. This means that much of the so called stashed away billions have been returned by these politicians. In fact, these politicians have also collected a large share of the new notes which is partly the reason for the scarcity among ordinary folks like you. Please let's stop fooling ourselves into thinking that it will affect politicians because IT WILL NOT!
See, I am not a Tinubu or APC fan, but this policy summersalt will not affect his chances. In fact, he may still win the election. He can even turn it into a strong campaign point that he will amend the policy if elected and because a lot of people are suffering from this policy they will side with him. Those of us sitting in the comfort of our homes and offices thinking everybody is in support of the policy because it will curb vote buying are in deception. Go out to the streets and find out. The politicians you think may lose out will still win convincingly and at the end this policy misadventure will accomplish nothing but suffering and misery for the ordinary folks.

Practically speaking, it has made vote buying cheaper. Since the people do not have cash and they NEED cash, they will accept 3k for their vote.

For me, that this policy would stop vote buying is a joke of the century! Can Buhari or Emefiele categorically tell is that the main presidential candidates don't have enough new notes as we speak?
Is it Peter Obi who has major stake in Fidelity Bank that doesn't have the new notes OR Tinubu and Atiku who have friends and associates as Bank MDs and have major stakes in quite a lot of banks?

Just like you, I'm waiting to see whether votes would be bought or not on election day, by all the major candidates.
February 25th is not far again!

Why are you all so intellectually RE- TAR - DED?

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already done the swap via his bank accounts since last month and has billions of new naira notes he has been using for presidential campaign rallies.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has also done so.
Peter Obi has billions of new naira from his Fidelity Bank and spending them for the expenses of his presidential campaign rallies.

President Buhari and the cabals are just exploiting the gullibility and stupidity of majority of Nigerians.

Today, I fully support the President after hearing his address to the nation. Here are my reasons:

1. Exchanging the old Naira note:

Why should politicians or government officials complain about the policies associated with the new Naira note?

Over Hundred days grace window was offer to exchange your old Naira note. If #500,000 was being deposited daily with the bank for 100 days, the total will be #50,000,000 for individuals.

Why should an individual keep N50m at home if not a proceed from corruption and bribery.

Note: Over N2.4 Trillion meant to be in circulation are kept at home by politician and government officials.

2. Politician influence at various bank/blame the bank:

CBN distributed the new Naira notes to various banks. Instead of the banks to distributed the new note equally, they were being given/sold to politicians and POS operators.

Its time all our angers be channel to the politician who are suppose to cater for the needs of their citizens and not themselves, friends or families.

The banks are also to be blame, why will a bank have six ATM and only one or two are dispensing cash?

Why will the banks temper with their network just to fustrate the new Naira note policy. Its a gang up of the banks to temper with their network at the same time. Otherwise, why all banks USSD, electronic banking, APP etc fail at the same time?

Lastly, CBN should also be blame for not sanctioning any bank for frustrating the policy associated with the new bank note.

I initially thought so too.
But look at the other way round:A man/woman would be less inclined to be influenced by a ₦2k voting bribe than he/she would have been with a a ₦10k one that they know would solve an immediate, important need.
What important, urgent need can 2k solve.
At least it would reduce the number of people that would be easily bribed

First no one pays 10k for each voter unless they are only worrying about a small number of people. The person that I know that has ever paid the most was a friend who ran under PDP 4 years ago. He paid 5k each and still lost to APC in my town.
Secondly, people will collect 1k now instead of the usual 2 to 3k. They have made more people desperate now more than ever. Especially if they can have naira note to give out right there instead of transfer, some might even take 500 Naira self. You will see. Just wait and see.

The court can only adjourn. And Buhari has checkmated/taken the sting out of another adjournment.

I don't see the Supreme Court ruling in the governors favor. If they could, they would have yesterday. And that would make Buhari pull the nuclear weapon. Actually direct state apparatus to rig the election for Atiku. To do that, he'll travel out and give SGF, IGP, and CDS free reign. All 3 are pro-Atiku. Osinbajo will cross his legs and sip chardonnay.

And I don't see why the Justices would want that baggage. It's one thing to make Lawan the flagbearer, it is another thing to scuttle Atiku's emergence, especially if he wins the election regardless.

We'll see anyway. I'm pro Atiku, but Tinubu is still in pole position as of today.
