Employers are cracking down on access to Facebook in the workplace.

Facebook costs employers billionsA poll of 600 employees by IT firm Sophos found 43% were blocked from logging on to the social networking website at work.

Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley said: "More businesses are restricting access to these kinds of sites.

"Employees may not like it, but these websites can represent a security risk if used carelessly."

Meanwhile, an internet security company says workers surfing the site could be costing their employers billions of pounds in lost productivity.

SurfControl found that Australian workers who keep a close watch on their Facebook profile page cost their employers over £2bn a year shocked shocked shocked shocked

Hi,

R u correct or r u correct. I think its kool that companies re banning this stuff, it could be destructive!!!

Imagine workers spending time on facebook than on their actual work. N you know that pple like to overdo things. If there was a moderation (which there isn't) it would have been better.

Thank you!

I must say facebook is the bomb. Whenever am online, my facebook is always on. It is so far the best social utility tool to me if you used correctly than hi5.

I use it for my academic group discussions and all other various discussion boards, that morons on this forum would have invaded if it were nairaland, and it has been highly useful to me. I have met a lot of old lost classmates from there, just by typing their names, their profile pops up! It is even fast getting more priority that nairaland for me.

That site is an addiction. I get to know when the latest is happening in my community and participate in it.
Very cool I must comment.

It can only be cool for you when you are not a labor employer and seeing the work hours you are paying for being surfed away by your workers,I am hooked up onto it but but I try moderation these days, most comments made can come back to huant someone in the future.

@ Poster I work in a Multi Billion oil company, due to d long hours staffs spend on facebook the website has been blocked. I guess employers have realized that its not just good considering the loose of man hours.

Employers of labor have every right to protect their businesses because money comes out of their pocket.

BUT come to think of it,if your PAY is base on productivity, would you be on facebook?

last week, somewhere in america.a pastor was campaigning aganist the use of the social network because for the past 6months,20% of couple in his congregation have had facebook related problems.
