Majority of Nigerians don't know why Soyinka was given the Nobel Prize for Literature.

He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, for "in a wide cultural perspective and with poetic overtones fashioning the drama of existence", the first sub-Saharan African to be honoured in that category.

Majority of the intellectually ignorant Igbos saying Chinua Achebe was a better writer.
Now we can see the tragedy of majority of Igbo youths who prefer trading to reading.
How can they comprehend what they have not read?
That's why they don't know the difference between Achebe and Soyinka.
They cannot define the Canon of Soyinka's works in contrast to Achebe's works.

The same period APC government destroyed Nigeria And Soyinka's fame started dipping

Intellectual ignorance is a terrible thing.
Prof. Wole Soyinka's fame has nothing to do with your local politics and stupidity.
He is forever the first African Nobel Laureate in Literature given to him in 1986 when he was 52.
He is a polymath and polyglot.
There has never been any black literary scholar like him in history.
Wole Soyinka is an institution in modern civilization.

Harper Lee, the author of the all time classic novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird" said about the society in the 21st century:
"An abundant society where people have laptops, cell phones and iPods; they also have minds like empty rooms."
