Ok you really for real do not know. Well i will disclose my own. I pay up to $3500 annually in property tax . The city where I stay in raise the property tax by 500 $ every year. I know what I am talking about ; you do not have to believe me. This is reality not some read up Google news report. God forbid I fall sick and cannot Pay the property tax. That home is a gone to the city. At least in Nigeria, na you get am.

I like the System the Whites are Practicing.

Even the Property Tax is too cheap. They should raise it to $5000 Per Year.

You "Greedy Heartless Nigerian Thieves" would just want to own the World to yourself. Imagine in this Nigeria, There are individuals who has more than 50 Houses while a Human like him doesn't have ordinary a Mini-Flat to occupy.

Nigerian Government replicate this development. At least 1 Million Naira should be paid for every house yearly.

This will discourage the Greedy Insatiable Individuals from acquiring too much property.

If it was only tax it’s ok but taxation plus interest. You see that interest

It’s a killer

Say u buy something worth 50000$ when they add interest that item will turn to 200000$.

And they don’t collect full payment they like smal small so it can seem affordable when really u can’t. An illusionary dream a thousand cuts of death.

And there is no full ownership of everything because the banks have tied interest into every thing.

They collect tax from your salary. If you deposit you pay tax. If you save you pay tax and the IRS will collect its own tax.

If you do bizness and make profit they increase your tax rate and then you pay capital tax again.

IRS can close ur account if you don’t pay and then Jail time. Eg wesley snipes.

I haven’t even talked about marriage and child support.

You really don't know Sir. I wish you know how property tax works and how it only favour the rich and how some cities abused tge propertytax system. That is why many just rent but even renting is expensive. An elderly lady lost her home because she couldn't afford to pay her property tax. The cheaper cities are not safe because of shootings. Imagine paying $12000 annually in rent in a bad neighborhood

If you live in Chicago, book an appointment with Femi Aguda. He will teach you the secrets of getting a property without paying a dime. Your tenants will be the one to pay your mortgage monthly for you and stop crying here on NL over 12k annually…It is very hard for alaroro to survive abroad.

What are the pros and cons of living abroad?
It depends if you are moving for financial or non financial reasons, and how long you move for.

If you are moving for a short period of time when you are young, there are seldom many negatives.

Few people regret studying abroad for a year, doing an internship or a gap year.

When it comes to longer-term assignments, financial considerations are important for most people.

The major positives associated with moving abroad are

If you work for a multi-national, there are sometimes bigger packages abroad, especially in frontier markets due to hardship allowances. For instance, if you are an oil & gas engineer working in Canada or Norway, you are likely to be paid more if you move to Nigeria or Myanmar on a two-year contract.
For business owners, the world markets are always a bigger opportunity than just only focusing on the local market. Whilst it is true that you can target people online successfully, a stint overseas will teach you about other cultures, give you fresh ideas and so on.
New languages and skills will help you if you move back to your home country
If you are high-net-worth you can save a lot on taxes if you move to certain countries, and do the right planning

The main negatives are

In your home country you get back ended benefits. In low-tax countries overseas, you get front ended benefits. What do I mean by that? In your home country, you might feel you are being weighed down by the taxes. However, you get back some of that money when you get old or are sick as per the graph below:

In comparison, if you have more money from lower taxes, you get front ended benefits. This can be great, but only if you are self-disciplined enough to save and invest more.

However, plenty of people in low taxes countries like the UAE and Singapore don’t do that, as many studies have shown
Career wise, you will be behind your peer back home, if you don’t use your time overseas wisely.
What are the pros and cons of teaching abroad?
What are the advantages or disadvantages of living and working abroad?
What are the pros and cons of moving back to your home country after living abroad?
What are the pros and cons of living in your country?

What are the pros and cons of moving abroad, and where are some good places to live?
Let´s start with the cons to get that out of the way first

1.
The more countries you have lived in, the more you loose a sense of belonging (at least I feel that way). I have lived in 9 different ones and although I have of course great memories and part of my heart is in all of them, I feel I belong nowhere and certainly not in my home country anymore either.

After so many years I crave a sense of belonging, a base to call home (even if it just means to be there a couple of months a year), friends I do not have to say goodbye to every few months or years. And no, to stay in touch on Social Media is not the same at all, I personally create bonding through shared experiences and not by living in past memories.

2.
If you move a lot and you know you will not be in a place for a very long time, you wonder if it makes sense to emotionally invest in relationships and friendships and I think sometimes relationship become more superficial because building them takes time and commitment and you know you will leave again and who wants heart breaks.

3.
Depending on your age group, aging parents back home suddenly become a concern. One is far away and cannot just jump in a plane and is home in one hour. A sense of guilt sets in even if your loved ones give you no reason to feel guilt and its only in your head. And you also realize time becomes more precious and one is far away.

4.
When you get home you realize your friends are more or less still the same, they have aged too, might have created a family, changed jobs, etc. but essentially they are still the same. You on the other hand have changed, its unavoidable. Your horizons have widened and you might not have that much in common with old friends anymore. There is a sense of loss and sadness.

5.
Depending on where you are abroad, romantic relationships can take a back seat. If an independent western single women in her late twenties or thirties comes for example to Asia with the hope to not only find professional opportunities and adventures but also a partner to create a family with, I would say, think twice, your choices will be limited, but that is a topic for a different question.

6.
The longer you are in a certain region the more difficult it will be to go back to your home country if you ever want to return, because your skills and experiences will become more bankable in your new country than in your home country. If your business is online it’s a different story of course.

7.
Loneliness can also be an issue. If you do not consider yourself the love of your life and enjoy time alone too, you will struggle, because it is unavoidable that there will be moments when you will be alone, especially if you just arrive in a new place. And when you get sick its also not exactly fun.

8.
Constantly having to let go is sad, at least for me. I do not like to let go of things, people, places that entered my heart, but sometimes life changes and there is nothing you can do about it.

In many places (such as Singapore, Dubai for example) people are in transit, they stay for a couple of years and then they move on, you might loose a job and the work permit that goes with it and the list goes on. If you have no plan B, the stress level rises.

9.
You feel often disconnected if you do not speak the local language, but might also not live there long enough to really fluently communicate. Some languages especially for westerns are just not so easy to learn (thai is one of them).

The frustration you feel when you start learning a new language and can only express yourself like a 2 year old in the body and with the mind of a grown up person.

10.

Personally I also feel sometimes alone, when there is nobody who shares a certain sense of humor. Humor is often very different and culture specific. I can laugh my head off about certain things or situations and my colleagues just look at me and wonder what that is all about.

And they laugh about certain things and I cannot see what is funny about it either. Laughing is also about bonding with people, so I can say sometimes I miss bonding over a shared sense of humor.

Now that we are done with some of the cons, lets talk about the wonderful pros.

1.
You change for the better

2.
You become more tolerant

3.
You become a better Ambassador of your home country when you return. I swear, whenever I return home, I am particularly friendly to anybody who is foreign, I feel so connected because I am a foreigner in other countries too, so I want them to feel welcome and leave with good memories.

4.
Once you have lived abroad, this place will never ever be just a dot on the map. It will penetrate your memory, it will become part of your history, if you disliked your experience or loved it does not matter, it will never leave you indifferent anymore.

5.
You develop courage and learn how to overcome obstacles

6.
You learn to rely on yourself

7.
You realize that essentially all people in the world are the same, we are just shaped by different education, background, beliefs, etc. but we all want to be respected, loved, heard and acknowledged.

8.
You become more flexible (you just have to)

9.
You age slower, because whenever you learn or see something new it feels the days are much longer and more intense. Every day is a new adventure and there is less routine.

10.
Everywhere I go there is something I love and I weave it into my personality to take it with me. It is like as I go along, I create a more interesting and better version of myself (at least I think that, but that is a good start).

11.
You learn to judge less and listen more.

12.
You will feel more emotionally connected to the world.

Great analysis.

The part you wrote about horizon changes and having nothing in common any more with old friends and congenial particularly struck a chord. I do notice that once my friends leave the country for a while, i get distanced from them. Now my concern is that the same rule is about to happen with my siblings. I can now do without them and they without me even for a life time

If you are doing well in South Africa especially if you are into business you will hardly miss anything in Nigeria except family members which you can easily visit as well.

You only have issue with black South Africans but not all of them depending on what you do and where you stay.
There are no or few jobs but you create jobs for yourself and the govt doesn't go after them.

Most small and medium scale businesses are owned by foreigners, black South Africans do govt tenders while the whites owns most of the large companies.

Nigerians are doing well in used auto mobile and spares. They buy accident cars from auction fix and resell or strip it for oarts. About 80% of accident cars from insurance are bought by Nigerians. Black South Africans doesn't even know about the business

Yea what happens when the tenants stop paying, you now have to foot the mortgage bills because the economy crashed, people are no longer renting at prices that makes sense. Oh then life throws in a wrench and you lost your job, now you have mortgages way above your income, you start borrowing from credit card, you can't pay back, your score drops, you go bankrupt, the houses are repossessed and you are back to penury. Femi Aguda will not tell his clients the downside/dangers of this method grin grin grin

Don’t mind him, this is the reason Nigeria is such a mess. Everybody wants to be left to do whatever they want, no responsibility, no laws, just roam about like wild animal and do the survival of the fittest.
They hate hate orderliness and want to be rascals.
They hate to be socially responsible, yet they want a developed society.

There is this couple living in the US. The man works in IT and is paid $90/ hr. The wife is an NP and makes $100/hr
So their combined income is about $195 /hr
They both work 12 hours a day to make $2340 every day . After taxes they take home about $2000 every day

When I did the conversion I realized it was about #1.5M naira they make daily

I said to myself, a big boy in a good office in Nigeria who makes #500k monthly would have to work 3 months to seen this amount that this couple make daily

It was then understood what people really meant when they say this life no balance

i love topics like this because that is when you see the spiritually sick covetous megalomaniacs emerge with their ridiculous grandiose posts. So a couple earning 2340 dollars are only paying taxes of 340 dollars ? That's like 12 percent tax. That's impossible in any civilized world to earn that much and only pay 12 percent tax. In fact I submit to you that the phantom couple Casper the ghost and his wife if they truly existed would be on like 40 percent tax with their wages not the 12 percent you said. Which tells me your story is bogus

This should be a post on its own. Thanks a lot

i love topics like this because that is when you see the spiritually sick covetous megalomaniacs emerge with their ridiculous grandiose posts.
They can even pay less than that amount if they makes the maximum allowable contribution to the following
401k account
Medical expenses savings
Childcare account
These are all tax free savings

property tax do you mean council tax as we call it in you ?

since you said you dont own the property i assume you mean council tax aka tax from
your local authorities

Well welcome to the 1st world countries, from that tax, the the reason the 1st world countries have well running refuse system, local maintained roads, anything run by council is run with thats money hence the work tax payers money

In africa we cry of our local authorielties not doing enough, but we for get that we dont pay much of council tax, how is the council going to run well when we dont pay

I hear most people who migrated to UK complaining about bills and i wonder how they have been living. There are bill that are mandotory in well run country and council tax is one them

Since its high for you cant you move to cheaper cities

How much do people earn averagely in a month in Nigeria? How many people are gainfully employed? How many dependants does, the working folks have? What's the ideal amount that should be earned monthly and what percentage should be deducted as tax? I feel these should be answered. Mind you most states in Nigeria have one mineral resource or more that they can use for developing their respective states and supporting their citizens.

If you want Japa, please Japa. I am not saying you shouldn't japa.

They can tax so much - eh you want to cry
And sleep. Your own money goes to tax and more tax.

You are not really the owner of your property because of tax. Property tax is something else.

Child support payment na another thing on its own- if you like woman, please be careful not to have many baby mama e get why.

Nigerians back home cannot understand until they come here and experience themselves.

I remember when my cousin was warning me about the Uk. I thought he was talking nonsense until I came and experienced reality. Experience is the best teacher
If you are doing well in Naija, please stay and visit. If you are struggling, then please Japa.
You have simply outlined the differences between a functioning society and a non-functioning one. In developed functioning societies the citizens pay tax. That establishes a contract between then and the govt. The govt HAVE to perform in terms of providing infrastuctue and security or the people will ask 'What are you doing with our taxes?'
In a non functioning underdeveloped socieity like Nigeria, there is minimal tax. Ony those employed in large private firms or govt really pay tax, in addition to VAT. However the downside is there is no contract with the govt. Govt does not have to provde water, good roads or good hospitlas. Yes you keep more of your money, but you actually end up poorer becasue you have to provide everthing for yourself(Bore Hole, Generator, Private School, Private Hospital...)
