The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says it is ready to issue licences to companies interested in petrol importation.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Farouk Ahmed, chief executive officer of NMDPRA, said the criteria for importing kerosene and diesel will be applicable for the importation of the product.

However, Ahmed said several conditions have to be met before the applicants are granted licences.

“There are a lot of conditions to be met before you are given a licence to import petrol,” he said.

“I cannot give you all the rundown now but I can tell you that just the way marketers import diesel or jet kero, there are conditions for all that and the same condition will apply to those who want to import premium motor spirit (PMS).”

Only companies that are lessees producing crude oil and/or condensates or who are holders of crude oil refining licences are eligible to supply wholesale petroleum liquids (including petrol importation), according to section 197 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

While the PIA empowers the NMDPRA to issue licences to refiners or producers of crude oil, the regulation, in sections 73 (3) and 111 (1), provides that the minister of petroleum must approve such licences.

Currently, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is the last-resort supplier, tasked with importing refined petrol to ensure adequate supply and distribution in the country.

Through the direct sale, direct purchase (DSDP) scheme, the country exports crude oil and exchanges it for refined petroleum products.

In this life ,intelligence and brilliancy is not enough. Without courage , determination, guts and balls one is going nowhere .
All the accolades and praises been heaped on Tinubu today for removing fuel subsidy could have been given to gej if only he had the balls and courage to stick to his guns and maintain his stand then .

The bigger enemy isn't subsidy , but lack of management and control of subsidy payments because of infalted invoices.

The citizenry looses alot with the removal of subsidy payments because in this clime, salaries do not increase readily, meaning purchasing power becomes more and more difficult with this economic overhaul.

Maintaining the subsidy is to the benefit of the average citizen. It's managing the invoicing system that's the problem. We can have metered and regulated suslbsidy payment in place with FG placing caps on subsidy payment and then hedging the excesses against Government backed bonds, so short term economic traction is cushioned by long-term macrofinances of the court ey.

If invoicing and lack of accountability is the issue with feul subsidy, then why don't we grant licensing that pays subsidy payments based on metered importation allowance?

When would Nigeria let thinking people lead ? When !

The same 2012 problem is repeating itself. Sensationalism. Assuming that the subsidy only implies people stealing,.forgetting or not even considering it's benefits.

The average minimum wage of a worker can't mean anything in a post subsidized feul economy.

Increase in food prices, Housing, transportation, lifestyle all at once without corresponding rise in salary payments is nothing short of a disaster. Be it Peter Obi, Tinubu, Atiku subsidy removal must be planned and strategized before actualized

In the end, the bigger enemy is the Hausa Fulani hegemony who setup cabals in all state instructions to run them down so private ones are setup to mop up the national treasury. Nigerian refineries and Dangote is typical

If Hausa and Fulani allowed our refineries worked like NLNG, we wouldn't be talking subsidy removal or Dangote

The focus must be maintained. For Nigeria to work, Hausa Fulani hegemony has to die

Inflation loading.
Next year, landlords will increase price.
Anyone who thinks things will remain stable when petrol is being sold at 500 naira per litre must be dreaming.

Now is the time but most people won’t take advantage. After all the northern bigwigs become major importers they’ll claim Tinubu has sold the country to the North

For every action, there must be an equal and opposite Reaction- Newtons 3rd law of motion. like it or not subsidizing the oil has been of benefits to the most common man like you and me even thou Many thieves on the high table are benefiting more. you Plan to remove subsidy without consultations with the stake holders in the oil Market to discus about the 5Ws (project management).
For the common man like me and you this is the first stage of hard ship.

as fuel don Cost na so many goods go cost die for market.. logistics of goods would be a night mare now and thus increasing the price of every Normal goods to 300%

Posterity has judged Jonathan well now. They rode on peoples gullibility and ignorance to acheive their selfish and parochial interest

I hope they prioritizes transparency in the licensing process, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the current administration. E dey crucial make person know what to expect.

if the process is done correctly, the increased competition should contribute to a more stable prices in petrol
