Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana has described the decision of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to increase pump price of PMS as illegal.

He was speaking on the sideline of an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Executive Council in Abuja.

Mr Falana said NNPCL has a limited liability company does not have any legal power to jack up the price of petroleum.

He urged the federal government to go back to the drawing board with a view to finding alternative solution to the problem, one of which he says includes the need to address the dollarization of Nigeria’s economy.

Falana also said Nigerians will challenge the decision, adding, however, that the solution to the fuel problem will be both legal and political.

Sir, this is not about law. It’s about rebuilding this country and rewriting the wrongs. With honor sir, should we continue the fuel subsidy?

All elder statemen in Nigeria should come together on this issue. It’s not about Tinubu or APC. It’s about our country and what’s pulling us back.

Add CBN too that also gave Dangote the money to build his personal refinery but cannot commit that same money and ensure that the country have a working refinery

Stop laying curses on yourself, in your oblivious ignorance.

On 16th August 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the much awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB or "the Bill"wink 2021 into law. This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina

Do you know what the ordinary Nigerian is going through now?
Nigerian govt is corrupt and irresponsible and cannot account for the proceeds from the removal of fuel subsidy. They will loot and reloot the money

I understand. But we got to do what we have to do as a Nation. Tinubu’s success will be judge on how he limit the negative effect on citizens.

While it is illegal to increase pump prices across the nation pre-subsidy removal era, diplomacy application is also very important because they also have the capacity to sterve the nation of the product hording it for post subsidy era to sell at a higher profit margin.

Which ever way, the gov created this predicament by carelessly announcing the removal way too early hence petroleum marketer are capitalizing on the ineptitude and turning it to gainful adventure.

It's just business

Well, NNPC didn't set the price for other marketers. It only set price for its own NNPC-branded fuel stations.

I need to understand what Mr. Falana is saying here.

Is it that NNPC can't fix price for other players or what?

A limited Liability company has every right to set for itself the price at which to trade it's products, peak Milk can decide to increase the price of it's products tomorrow, it's another thing if people will still buy.

Don't mind them
You claim you removed subsidy while nnpc is still sole importer of petrol
How did they even arrive at 537 self?
One litre of petrol in US is about $1
Crude is 79 per barrel while budget is 75 per barrel. This means Nigeria is making extra $4m per day on crude.
Exchange rate is 630
So how did they arrive at 537

Very illegal.. I stand with Falana on this.

NNPC ceased to be a government owned organization when they changed to limited liability company to cover up all the looting, gross mismanagement and corruption going on there for ages now. I really don't know how the National Assembly leadership allowed those guys rob Nigeria of her national asset built by Nigerian tax payers money.

NLC must not allow the illegality Kyari and his friends in NNPCL want to foist on Nigerians to stand.

No market forces can determine prices of petroleum product in Nigeria except government and Mele Kyari doesn't speak or act for government. The time to end this madness is now.

You don't get the point do you?.. Why will NNPCL rush to fix price of PMS at over #530.
Which section of the law gave them that power?

I'm sorry to say this but quota system has battered this country terribly. The Northerners are just behaving anyhow without recourse to logic and critical thinking.
That is the rubbish they did with so called 'Nigeria Air' after crippling other airlines and siphoning billions of dollars. This f00lishness can't continue. Just can't

NNPCL is now a limited liability company,no longer a Corporation and can't act on behalf of government. They can't transact anything or sell Crude Oil on behalf of the Nigerian government. It's completely ILLEGAL.

Subsidy was paid for the month of June but NNPC increased their prices.
The country is on autopilot and APC thieves are cashing out big time because a vaccum exists in government. It is not a coincidence that CBN sold dollars above 600 naira per dollar same week NNPC sold petrol above 500 naira per liter.

1. CBN loaned Dangote a small fraction of the money for his refinery.

2. CBN does not fix refineries.

3. If the government needed money from CBN to fix refineries it would get it. In fact, the government thoroughly abused CBN for other purposes.

Please try to seek information on how things work.

The storm is gathering, but it shall not bring forth rain to the enemies of Nigeria. Surely they shall gather, but because their gathering reeks of vengeance and animosity they will fail! Haba! Government does this, it is obnoxious, government does that, we no go gree. Whatever you may think, know first of all that the Nigerian Labour Congress is the father of Peter Obi's Labour Party and that the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress is Joe Ajaero Obi's kontriman, born on 17 December 1964, in Emekuku, Owerri North, Imo State. He got his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1990. He's a konk Igboman. So there's no doubting on whose side his loyalty and sympathy should be. Nigerians are well advised to choose their battle well and refuse to be led off-course by irritants who have not yet realised that election campaign is done with. The so-called endsars uprising, aka the Igbo attempt to takeover Lagos in mind.
