While you are right to separate Jesus Christ from all the noise of religion and its billions of subscribers, I believe you are wrong in assuming that Jesus Christ came to offer unconditional love and compassion to all and sundry. His very words for instance are that He only loves those who obey His teachings and commandments, a claim verified by even His own apostles - John 15 vs 9 - 11 & John 13 vs 1.
