I just noticed that google is now available in Pigeon English. Becoming the fourth Nigerian Language after Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. Do you guys think this is of any use since the content is in English. For example when you go to "Google Igbo" and search for a term. The results still come out in English. Since there are little or no website content in Nigerian languages.

Google has done their part, it is now left for us Nigerians to develop sites using our local language for better assimilation, Nairaland for instance is supposed to be available in every Nigerian Language. Then our intellectuals in various language departments in our University are supposed to work on translation codes that will enable Google to use their translator to translate our local language sites to English

Why are you guys so dumb? Pidgin English didn't start in Africa not to say Nigeria. Pls that notion that it is left to we (Nigeria) to start creating local websites should be discarded because countries like Portugal and Brazil speaks pidgin and they will even take it as a task to make the Google pidgin site a very good one. So the stuff has little or nothing to do with 9ja

Pidgin is a mixture of English and Vernacular languages,,, Pls note dat Vernacular language ain't Yoruba, Vernacular is any other language different from the generally accepted language in a particular settings, In a formal environment like a School, Bank or Organizations(Multinational)
Yoruba speaking to clients is seen as Vernacular, Then Pidgin is almost the official language of Jamaicans,

We were fiercely beating about making Pidgin an official lingua franca in Naija to unite tribes and also use it to teach at our schools. Dis big oyibo gramma no dey let our kids grasp various concepts relating to different subjects. Since pidgin is widely understood by everyone in Niaja, our linguist and other literary figures can work towards constructing, organizing and formalizing the syntax.

If Google(American co-operation) can realize this fact, then why do these Egoists in our society keep saying dat pidgin na for local aje kpakos?

It is high time we expand our horizons and stop this yawu yawu.

We're talking about Nigerian pidgin English here and not that of other countries. We know just about every language has a creole version.

Re: Google Nigeria Now Available In Pidgin English ("Google Naija") by Ben13: 5:03pm On Oct 07, 2011
The word PIDGIN English talks about the 'mixture' of other Languages with Pure English in order to make it simple for non English natives.
So Pidgin English is not a 9ja thing. A lotta countries who speak English have what they refer to as pidgin English.

So you lovers of Nigerian Pidgin, don't think Google had you in mind when making the innovation. cheesy
Re: Google Nigeria Now Available In Pidgin English ("Google Naija") by MrWhy1(m): 5:37pm On Oct 07, 2011
@Ben-10

Have you gone to Google site to confirm for yourself? What I saw there was confirm Naija pidgin version which is very unique amongst others and besides a Co-operation like Google can't ignore a lingua franca that almost 200million people speaks and understands. Take it or leave it bro.

I've noticed that google seems to be the only foreign web company that has taken a keen interest in Nigeria. We've got potential. Pay-pal should take note.
