Degenerative myelopathy (DM) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the spinal cord in dogs. It is similar to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in humans. DM causes gradual muscle weakness and incoordination in the hind limbs, and eventually leads to paralysis.
