This is a sensitive discourse that I trust God to help us have an honest and balanced discussion over.

To begin with, it is important to have the actual definition of some component words;

1. Tribe: (Noun)
a. A socially, ethnically, or politically cohesive group of people.
b. A society larger than a band but smaller than a state.
c. (Zoology) A group of apes who live and work together.

2. Detribalize: (Verb)
To cause (the members of a tribe) to lose their tribal culture.

Detribalization will therefore be the process and methodology involved in getting or causing a people to lose their tribal culture.

However this definition sounds rather negative on its own, it is therefore necessary and of utmost import that it is simultaneously married with civilization- true civilization without hidden agenda and ulterior motives.

3. Civilization:
a. (Noun) An organized culture encompassing many communities, often on the scale of a nation or a people; a stage or system of social, political or technical development.
b. (Proper Noun) Collectively, those people of the world considered to have a high standard of behavior and / or a high level of development.

Nigeria as a country is a mishmash and pot-pourri of diverse tribes with their unique and diverse cultural identities and heritage jouned together as a result of colonisation, amalgamation and civilisation.

It is important to establish that our match-making (amalgamation) was an unholy matrimony. It was either non-consensual and or manipulative. This is clearly as a result of the innate greed of both our ancestors and our colonists.
We can not blame the colonists without ascribing due blame to our ancestors.

This unholy matrimony gave birth to distrust and rivalry between the major tribes of the country especially the Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.

There are so many versions of the story of our history as a country- Nigeria, depending on whose side of the story you listen to. However there is always the Truth.

The Hausas have their perspective which they hold true.
The Yorubas have their perspective which they hold true.
The igbos like wise have their perspective which they hold true.
Like wise the other tribes have their perspectives which they hold true.

On this note, it is important to personally do an unbiased study and research on this history with a view to unlearn and relearn, setting aside our matural emotions and sentiments.
It is advisable to listen and learn the perspective of others as well. And try to understand why they actually do not see from your perspective.

This is the first step to our individual and collective detribalization.

Loyalty is the crux of Tribalism and it's antithesis, Detribalisation.
It is our need to be loyal to our tribe that fuels our tribalism.
It will like wise be our need to be Loyal to the Truth that will fuel our detribalization.
You will either become more loyal to your tribe or less loyal to your tribe.

The culmination of it all is Cosmopolitalism. The idea that all of humanity belongs to a single moral community.

When we realise that we are all Humans First before we began to form smaller units that grew into bigger units and became divided over the years, we will also come to realise, we are one big divided family.

We have simply inherited family feuds and inter-tribal grievances and the cycles has continued from genelation to generation manifesting in various forms- racism, tribalism, xenophobia, etc.

By God's grace, our generation will break this vicious cycle and make a difference, for the sake of God and our posterity in Jesus name. Amen

i don't not agree with your writeup

detribalization is a scam, people need their identity to truly feel a sense of belonging and pride.

A cultureless society is a defeated society

All people can live together regardless of tribes

Thanks for this.
This is what I meant that detribalization has to be simultaneously married with genuine civilization- not having hidden agenda or ulterior motives.

Our rich heritage is a blessing. But not all is blessing.
We must therefore know what to preserve and what to discard for that which is better- on a personal level and as much as possible, on a corporate/collective level.

Story story, same way in the past they were shouting one Nigeria yet were doing the direct opposite. Others were preaching liberalism, they were practicing core conservatives.
Tribalism isn't a bad thing, it's Patriotism and self preservation towards a cause. it's very overstretched in our climes when another feel threatened then you're tagged bigotry for check-mating their excess.

Who are they?
Yes, tribalism is not necessairily bad as long as it has the interest of others at heart as well which is what cosmopolitanism is.

I have no answers but antecedent does. if that's your definition of cosmopolitanism, then fair enough.
