You may be thinking about whether there is any big difference between either style and their impacts. The answer is yes, there is. Something as simple as your breathing style can impact your overall well-being. The next question that may pop into your mind could be, 'How? '. To answer this question, we will be diving deeper into a comparison between nasal breathing vs mouth breathing. Nasal Breathing Style Breathing through the nose is the most common and natural way of breathing by our bodies. Our nose is such an intricate organ, tuned to help our body do one of the most crucial tasks. It provides a pathway for the inhalation and exhalation processes to be completed. The small hair in our nose called cilia help filter out the dirt particles from the incoming air. Overall, the nasal breathing method helps facilitate efficient inhaling and exhaling processes while warming and humidifying air. It also provides relaxation and has been linked with improving one's sleep quality and cognitive function. Mouth Breathing Style Mouth breathing is not our body's preferred breathing mechanism but many people still do it either out of pure habit or in the case that one's nasal passages are obstructed. Coming back to the topic of nasal breathing vs. mouth breathing. Mouth breathing is a quicker way for airflow but can be harmful if particles such as irritants and pathogens enter our body. This is possible because the mouth breathing mechanism skills through the filtration mechanism of nasal breathing. Additionally, if one breathes through their mouth during sleep it can cause snoring and sleep apnea. Children who are chronic mouth breathers can face dental and facial development issues. Conclusion Above we discussed the two breathing mechanisms i.e., nasal breathing vs mouth breathing. Both mechanisms have their pros and cons and it is to be noted that each one has a major or minor impact on our well-being. Mouth breathing comparatively has more cons than nasal breathing. If you breathe through your mouth because of habit then you can try switching to nasal breathing. Your health matters and the slightest habits can have a major impact on you. Remember to do your research and choose healthier options for yourself.
