Lagos Council Polls Exposes The Hypocrisy Of Bola Tinubu by Xfactoria: 10:13am On Oct 24, 2011
SAN FRANCISCO, October 23, (THEWILL) – Lagos residents and voters who witnessed the conduct of Saturday’s local government elections in Lagos State had expected that results would be declared at most by Sunday night in places where voting took place, but sadly the results are being delayed by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in most areas where the Action of Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and its candidates suffered humiliating defeats in the hands of candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria and a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been behind the intrigues and politics surrounding the delay in making the results public, THEWILL can report.

The decision of LASIEC has however continued to anger Lagosians who have witnessed protests by aggrieved voters and opposition party members in their areas. There are talks that the delay in the announcement is because the party (ACN) that controls the machinery of government in Lagos State intends to rig the poll in favour of its candidates.

As at press time, only a handful of results have been made public from the 57 local government areas and council development areas in the state. Though the ACN is expected to do well in the poll, it seems to have suffered defeat in some very key local government areas like Somolu, Badagry and Ikoyi. Bola Tinubu leaves along Bourdillon Road in highbrow Ikoyi. A defeat in Ikoyi will be a dent to his big ego and perceived invincibility.

There was tension Sunday in Ikoyi/Obalande and Somolu where the ACN suffered defeat and the electoral officers were withdrawn from the collation centres in order not to announce the results. Multiple sources in Lagos State told THEWILL that Bola Tinubu is bent on manipulating the electoral process to protect his hold on Lagos politics even if it means returning ACN local government chairman and councilors whose performances in office has been terribly poor. For a man who has over the years preached about protecting democracy and its ideals, it is rather sad that he is leading the charge to disenfranchise voters.

His newspaper, The Nation which he has often used as a propaganda tool has blacked out reports on the results of the poll.

As at 5.pm Lagos time on Sunday, LASIEC officials and some leaders of the ACN were in a curious secret meeting in its Yaba office and refused to entertain questions from our sources over the delay. Journalists and accredited election observers were barred from entering the compound but ACN members were allowed unrestricted entry and exit.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the African Renaissance Party (ARP) has called for an outright cancellation of the poll, saying it was massively rigged by the ACN.

Below is the result from Ikoyi/Obalande which Tinubu does not want announced.
