The Kaduna State Army Command successfully captured three people who were selling weapons to the well-known terrorist leader, Bello Turji.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared the news on Thursday, November 23, mentioning that the arrests took place in Kaduna from November 14 to 17.

According to Buba, these individuals were on their way to deliver weapons and ammunition to Turji in Zamfara state when the army intercepted them.

Turji, notorious for serious crimes, including the killing of 200 people in January 2022, had been declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters on November 14, 2022, with a reward of N95,000,000 for his capture.

During the operation, the army recovered a significant amount of weapons, including 504 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammo, 100 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, three RPG chargers, three mobile phones, an ATM card, and a vehicle.

Major General Buba also mentioned the discovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with a handwritten letter in the Biu area of Borno on November 20, 2023. Investigations are still ongoing.

Highlighting the army’s achievements, Buba noted the elimination of 99 terrorists, the arrest of 198 suspects, and the rescue of 139 kidnapped hostages across various theatres of operations.

In a separate development, the Nigerian Police arrested four notorious arms traffickers and recovered 57 AK-47 rifles and a significant amount of ammunition in Plateau state and other locations across the country on Thursday, April 27.

The police force’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this in a statement, mentioning that the arrests were made based on credible intelligence about their illegal activities in Jos and its surroundings. After completing the investigation, the suspects were brought to court.
