President Jonathan’s handpicked  governorship candidate, Mr. Seriake Dickson, has won the controversial People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Bayelsa state.

According to the vote tallies made available to Saharareporters, Dickson easily defeated other contestants winning handily with the  following votes declaredaccording to local government areas: Brass 31, Ekedemo 47, Yenagoa 47, Southern Ijaw 61, Ogbia 44, Sagbama 51, Kolango 41, Kolokuma/Opokum 43, Nembe 41.

Three of Governor Timipre  Sylva’s loyalists staged a walk-out in disagreement with the conduct of the primaries before vote counting began on Saturday.

Mr. Dickson is the preferred candidate of President Jonathan. The primaries proceeded despite an injunction by Justice Kolawale of the Federal High Court in Abuja barring the conduct of that primary.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali stated that no court could stop the party primary going by Section 87 (10) of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.

Earlier in the process the PDP barred the sitting governor of Baylsea sate, Mr. Timipre Sylva,  from contesting in the primaries.

Why did pdp disqualify the major contenders including a seating governor if not to pave way for this guy ?

The court should studied the ammended constitution of the electoral act 2010 before serving that injunction. Well atleast some of the money is out from the Governor's pocket.Sylva pls realease more money & get more injunction. I laugh in OBJ's language!

In as much as I dn't like this Dickson guy, I dn't think the PDP has erred in anyone way by conducting this primary election. IMO, I think its the Judge that granted that Sylva the injunction that erred. The Judge ought to have known better that the electoral act which guides the conduct of elections in Nigeria clearly states that no court injunction can stop an election in the country. IMO, I suggest that such a Judge should be suspended until he/she can prove beyond reasonable doubt why such an injunction should be granted, he should also be reminded that as a Judge, his/her job is to interprete the law and sanction appropriately those that have run fowl of the law and not to cause confussion in the polity. I rest my case.

pdp primary in bayelsa is a futile effort.the candidate will be disqualified by the court and inec will not feed any candidate for pdp.goodluck will loose out at the end of the day.they seems to have forgotten the case of senator ifeanyi araume in imo in 2007 and rotimi amachi in rivers.pdp members are animals who will never do things in the right way,.they will keep on abusing court process in the name of power and i hope God will catch up with them soon

It Mr President privilage to anoint the Governor of his home state. It is a normal norm in Nigeria.

The Primary would not stand as INEC did not send any observer to the primary. Does it suprise any body that GEJ would handpick a candidate, ignore court orders, and send the rule of law to the gutters? Afterall, His political emergence can be traced thus. A pity your type still exist in Nigeria! You have no sense of reasoning to understand that it is not Slyva that is the bone of contention, rather it is the ABUSE of POWER and the threat to Democracy of the bastardly act of GEJ and His gang of PDP looters pose that is really the main issue.

By this singular act of the PDP concerning the primary and not following the rule of law, be rest assured that the election will be rigged big time 'cos if Slyva decamps to another party and contest, then it will be all out war in Bayelsa 'cos GEJ hasn't got the foot soldiers like Slyva in Bayelsa but the painful part of all this is that the ordinary Bayelsa wil suffer!

Electoral act is not bigger than the constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria and what the Slyva case would do most likely is test the validity of that aspect of the law so passed by the despotic 6th NASS.

Again, you need to study the grounds of Slyva's case and the reply filed by the PDP in court this week.

Thing is a court should never be able to grant an injunction to suspend or deter an election from takin place. It just doesn't make sense. Just like in the case of Odili having an injunction that he can't be arrested and tried in any law court.

So the issue is it legal to grant an injunction against a party primary knowing fully well that delaying it will delay the electoral process. INEC will be forced to delay the election to accomodate the suit as they can't leave the PDP out. So where does this viscious circle stop?

Can we delay elections in a country based on an injunction? Whatever the reason for granting the injunction I think the answer should be NO. Otherwise this will be a loophole employed by the ruling class to delay elections in the future. Or by just about anybody with a "Selfish" agenda.

My man, the project called Nigeria is a joke which we all know, and sometimes when I post something that the one i just posted, it is just a joke. we are all aware of the fact that there is gross misconduct, mis-management and disregards for the rule of law, but what can we do. The same Sylva that is hustling to hold on to power is a product of the same PDP wants him out of there, so he should understand the rule of the game and not necessarily the rule of law now. Nigeria is a lawless nation and it didn't start today, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get this project called Nigeria; right.

My bro, it pains my heart that things are like this in our dear country, but come Jan, we must all stand up against oppression from the head, if a govt cannot take care of the citizens, they have no business being in power. The problem of this nation is overwhelming, and it is only GOD who can turn things around.

There was a court order, PDP disobeyed the order on constitutional bases, we can all see how the judicial
system is being ridiculed.

Even if the Judge acted wrongly by placing the injunction, i think the right thing PDP would have done was
to file an application or appeal against the injection in a higher court (Appeal court).

I still insist GEJ hasn't done anything out of place. Its about getting a loyalist for his constituency, by 2015 he will be out of Aso Rock so he needs to maintain a stable and non-hostile home front for future political relevance.
