CBN Directs Banks To Suspend Charges On Deposits Till September by Morbeta11(m): 5:18am On May 08

The Central Bank of Nigeria has directed banks to stop charges on cash deposits until September 30, 2024.

The apex bank disclosed this in a circular dated May 6, 2024, signed by its Director of Banking Supervision, Adetona Adedeji.

Customers of some of the Deposit Money Banks raised concerns that the banks have begun collection of processing fees for cash deposits as of May 1.

Our correspondent sighted this in an email shared by one of the customers of the banks.

Based on the bank’s move, two per cent was to be charged on deposits above N500,000 for individuals, while corporate account holders were to be charged two per cent on deposits above N3m.

According to the latest circular to financial institutions and non-financial institutions, CBN said the processing fees have been suspended.

The circular read, “Please refer to our letter dated December 11, 2023, referenced BSD/DIR/PUB/LAB/016/023 on the above subject, suspending processing charges imposed on cash deposits above N500,000 for Individuals and N3,000,000 for Corporates as contained in the ‘Guide to Charges by Banks, Other Financial Institutions and Non-Bank Financial Institutions’ issued on December 20, 2019,” CBN said.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria hereby extends the suspension of the processing fees of 2% and 3% previously charged on all cash deposits above these thresholds until September 30, 2024.”

The apex bank directed financial institutions to continue to accept all cash deposits from the public without any charges till the end of the third quarter.

useless trial and error government.

I keep saying, Had it been Peter Obi was the governor of Lagos state...

No African mega city would have been able to come close.

The yorubas hyping Tinubu as their best shows how they love oppression and slavery. That's why one man has been deciding the governor of Lagos since he left the seat of Power.

This madness will never work in any SE/SS state.

How do you clap for a state that generates over 1T a year in IGR with nothing to show? 1 trillion is a whole lot of money, that you won't see 1 single agbero in a mega city. Things should work as seen in other climes.

I have Been to Cape Town, Kigali and Cairo. You will not find one single tout!!!

when u are battling with poor electricity, insecurity and terrible agricultural output, u are battling with lack of proper water to citizens, still has serious political and ethnic issues to tackle, terrible electoral system, extremely uncivilized high population citizens. Do u guys really know what it means to build a society?
U need to tackle these things.
The thing is the project was just govt usual way of doing things in Nigeria and Premium times editorial nailed it in their article. Purely misplaced priority and lack of due process. We should speak the truth and stop all these blind support that we offer politicians. This is why they continue to deal with us.
We have not even talked about terrible state of the health care. U will practically die if u have a health emergency in Nigeria that needs swift response. This country is a chaotic place to live

Probably, but they should avoid being pawns in the hand of the Anti-Christ.

ProtonX:
Short answer is NO. I never have. I have been married for almost a decade and a half and what we have achieved in life as a family is what I never would have dreamed of as a bachelor. I married a woman who looks out for me the way I look out for her. We've built a solid fortress spiritually, physically, financially, etc. I won't have had it this good alone. My life was scattered especially because I was forced to be independent at a young age and I left home at around 17. Sometimes I imagine if I didn't wife her when I did, another man would have cupped this gift that God willingly gave me. TWO GOOD HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE. We're not without disagreements sometimes but we've so far maintained a peaceful home. Yes, life gets chaotic but knowing you have a genuine person, no chaos is big enough. Learning and unlearning is constant in our marriage and knowing what God requires of us per time. We have been intentional about our relationship especially when our kids came in the picture. From just date nights enjoying some of our favorite TV shows indoors to trips where we focus on each other and plan the next month, next quarter, etc. We keep a united front before our relatives including our parents, friends, our children, etc. I sometimes re-read my kids' school composition about us as their parents, and I genuinely ball my eyes. God gave me the best gift and I almost lost her wasting time that year. But to God be the glory. No regrets.
Likewise I! How can I ever envy single guy when I know that my CREATOR Himself is the one that gave me my wife. Truth is most men that regret marriage fornicated into married Life. Pure-minded Souls that wait on our CREATOR for choice of marriage rarely regret. While growing up, I vowed that I must marry American White lady and I later got one to fall head over heels in Love with me. Just 2 weeks before her booked flight to fly to Nigeria for our Marriage, I accidently discovered that she was possessed when the Demon spoke with husky male voice and twisted scary face as I accidently talked about JESUS even though I was not BornAgain yet then. Long story short, I dumped her and hatched another Plan to marry daughter of Politician or a superwealthy Man. I got one from a Private University but she demanded that I covert to Islam before her father could agree to our marriage. Soon got another extremely beautiful one from another wealthy family only to later discover that she a Principality in Marine-Witchcraft Kingdom. It finally dawned on me that I will die early if I had married any of them and that choosing a Wife with physical eyes or human wisdom is tantamount to Eternal foolishness. Then I Fasted and Prayed that CREATOR of Humanity that knows what non can see inside every females should choose HIS Own daughter for me, I promised HIM that I will marry her immediately even if she's Cripple. HE answered by giving me the best young woman on Earth as my Wife. Everyone that sees my Son always ask how come he's so handsome (not just physically, everyone that sees my Son are just helplessly captivated), I've seen parents that stared so much till they say they wish their Children is as handsome as mine. Such Destiny Children are only released to Earth through a Marriage that CREATOR of Humanity HIMSELFT Orchestrated:
HalleluAHAYAH ASHAR AHAYAH!!!!!!!

the way Tinubu would be so isolated in 2027 would shock people, the inflation has been biting since subsidy removal, taxation is at all time highest, people are complaining but the man doesnt care instead hes increasing the salaries of the political class while keeping the masses in more taxation.

believe me I supported Tinubu but if he persist with this idea of sucking the masses dry without corresponding compensation in economic improvements, he'll be alone in 2027 and thats a fact.

You read his comment and did not really understand what he said....

Back to the topic: Some people might be mixing this levy with the cybersecurity levy, it is different, this did not really make headline like the cyber security own.

As at now the cybersecurity levy is still standing, some people don't know the type of man they supported into power...

I am just reading your comment now and laughing at you here, you guys obviously did not know the person you were supporting and some of you still don't know...

First you have to wait for the next 3 years before you can do anything stop Tinubu from doing the evil he is doing to you.

Secondly, you think you can actually remove Tinubu from office grin, some of you did not know that one of the reason why some of us did not want Tinubu there was because once he gets there he becomes an emperor, he would rather the whole Nigeria burns to hold on to that power.

Look at Lagos for example, he is the only governor since 1999 still controlling who rules the state, if he could do that as an oppostion without federal control, now that he has all that you think you can remove him in 2027...

I told you guys last year immediately Tinubu was sworn in that he doesn't need you people's vote or support in 2027, that is how bad it is....

Thirdly, Tinubu is a very heartless and wicked human being, I don't know how you guys were seeing him, but the red flags were too much for anyone not to see.

Look I'm not saying Peter Obi is a saint but comparing to Tinubu, they are miles apart, you people don't know him, you don't just know who you are dealing with....

We saw these things we warned you guys, some of us already had seen through the kind of person he was, I'm not really surprised with what he is doing...

The people need to wake up and realise the game being played by the CBN/Govt. It’s all about digital payments, the same reason there was scarcity of cash during Buhari era, currently in Germany, the banks are running commercials asking people not to use cash because diseases can be transmitted through it, the same cash that has been in existence for thousands of years.

All over the world, efforts by governments to reduce and completely eradicate cash is on top gear, don’t be deceived, it’s all about the United Nations and WEF digital prisons being built around us all where humans will have to rely on technology/AI for survival.

The earlier you know how evil technology can become in the hands of governments and elites, the better. The monetary system is the head of the snake (And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name).

The power that be are using religion/tribalism/politics to keep the masses asleep, PLEASE WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

Instability and directionless policies wins this administration the global title of the most confused government.

Ok na..

One of the implications of these charges is that many would boycott banks to virtual (opay, kuda, moniepoint, etc) or piggy bank. And money that should be deposited to bank would be held by individuals causing shortage of cash in circulation.
