sarcasm is an expression that can be used with emoji to convey intent. Since there are so many ignorant people in this world, you are wrong to assume that everyone ought to see into your soul to determine you are being sarcastic. If you want to make jokes, do it appropriately else you might convey a deeper level of ignorance.

CheapHomes1:

and part of the subject of literature where you got "idiomatic expression" from, there is also a word known as "sarcasm". am surprised that since you stayed in school, you have no idea what "sarcasm" is even when you see it.

my questions still remain which you have failed to answer.

1. how many years was Rome built?

2. is 25years and a day the same thing?

3. pls how many days is 25years that you feel people should not complain and desire for a better life as Nigerians?

4. I didnt ask you about Burna Boy. if Nigeria was so good, what are YOU doing in the US?

About 10 at the time.
We were just settling into our new house in Owutu Ikorodu, having moved from Ire-Akari Estate, Isolo, in January.
A strange place considering the roads in Isolo were all tarred and houses had gates and fences.
In Ikorodu then, no roads were tarred apart from the major mile-12 road that passed through Agric - Garage and the roundabout. Many houses didn't have fence and gates. Yet, the area was peaceful and devoid of criminals.

That's when I knew I had been in the dark a little bit. The young people in the environment were very good in sports, table tennis, ludo, etc.
The Sega game, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64 were the consoles then.
International Super Star Soccer Deluxe II, and the MK3 Ultimate Mortal Combat was the games we played in viewing centres. It had to be viewing centres cos even though we already had Dstv and borehole (as compared to other houses) at the time in 1999 at home, my people were a bit averse to things like that.

Ikorodu then was like a free place. I go place to place with barefoot, had a lot of friends. We played, fought, etc. The concept of tribe was non-existent, as different tribes all came together playing and learning things on the streets.
As time went on, my people were worried and said I was beginning to join bad gangs and peer-pressure related stuff. Me sef no small because I worry wella.
And you know the Yorubas are very good in boxing fights or throwing blows in fights.
It didn't take long till me sef began to learn to throw blows and challenge my colleagues with serious fisticuffs. I no fear any person.
Ikorodu was such an influence.

By 2005 it became too much and I was shipped off to live in the quarters of UNN - where the environment was 100% different. Quiet and like a monastery. My aunt then was like, "see it as a privilege coming to live in this kind of environment cos you don't get to have that opportunity never.
Ikorodu was done for me!

The good ol' days.

If you lived through the Military Era, you would not even ask this question. Democracy might not be great, but at least it allows AriseNews the right to openly criticize the govt without consequences. I see people beating police and soldiers...dem no born your parents and the entire family to do that under the Military Govt. You will just go missing...even NUJ will remain mute. Who born who? So yes, lets celebrate our Democracy...ROME was not built in a day.

This is exactly the reason a politician would make away with funds meant for a project and nothing, I mean absolute nothing will be done.

Must you always be partisan?

What is unprogressive about a government that has allowed anyone, including yourself, to vent their frustration without any reprisal or consequences?

Does progressive mean government policies will favour everyone?

That your preferred candidate was defeated by a political superior is not the end of progressive politics?

Twenty Five years of unbroken democracy, how has Nigerians fared?

I remember all the events that preceded May 29, 1999. There was excitement everywhere that at last the military was exiting the political stage in the annals of our history but today a lot of people will tell you that things are not in any way better, especially in these last few years!

The question is, Where were you and how old were you in 1999?

Is this the democracy you hoped for?

Are we there yet?
I wrote my WASSCE dt year. Demo looks better while OBJ was president. I started n finished my tertiary education during his tenure as president. D truth is that, life was sweeter under him than now

This is not true. There has been a spike in people being arrested for their comments online and also a worrisome trend of journalists being picked up for their articles.

How is it government business if private individuals and corporations avail themselves of the law that allows them to challenge those who make libelous accusations?

You want the government to intervene and side with the private individuals or side with those who have made unsubstantiated claims that are injurious to others?

Many of the recent instances have been instigated by government OR people in government.

Please recall someone was arrested for calling Aisha Buhari fat. It gets that bad.
Senator Ned Nwoko also had Sowore arressted for saying he has mosquitoes in his house.

It gets that bad and that silly.

I was born in 98, i knew nothing then.

But i know a lot now, and the more i know about my country, the more confused i become, my head aches, and i get so upset for no reason other than I'm watching my country slowly imploding with me inside. The masses are tired and angry and sore. One more shove and the whole thing will tip over. God help us then

This year Nairaland was not conceived yet. Seun was just chilling. It was yahoo.com that was very popular then. Gmail was a child's play compared to Yahoo. Google was just about a year old. There was no gsm then but Nitel unit card for making calls on Nitel telephone hubs..that usually have long queues. This year, was the beginning of the dotcom era. And the buzz about millennium was very loud. Anyways, that year was a beautiful year. I was a corper shun then...lol
