Lagos ICDU Elects Ike Ofuokwu, Charles Nmarkwe, Angela Izegbu, Others as New Executives

Story By Emeka Esogbue

The Lagos Island Branch of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU), on Sunday, elected arrays of fine hands as new executives of the Town Union.

Ike Ofuokwu, Esq., a renowned lawyer from the community, was elected President of the Town Union in an election that took place inside the Lekki Peninsula Hotel in Lagos. The election was described by participants as free, fair, and ultimately a people's choice of leadership. Charles Nmarkwe, another well-known lawyer from the community, was elected Vice-President.

The Lagos Island Branch of the Town Union in a democratic exchange of batons also produced Entertainer and current People of Oshimili North Ambassador, Angela Izegbu fondly called "Angela Loks" as the General Secretary.

In his acceptance address, the amiable and well-known Boardroom player, Ike Ofuokwu, who would assume leadership duties, expressed gratitude to the members.

He said, "On behalf of the new Exco team, let me thank you all for finding us worthy to be asked to pilot the affairs of the ICDU Lagos Island; let me also thank you all for your outpour of congratulatory messages, phone calls and very kind words of encouragement."

"I want to assure everyone of us that it is a collective responsibility of all our members to join hands together and make the union occupy the enviable and eminent position that it ought to occupy and make it the first amongst all other branches," he reminded the members.

"It is for me and the entire Exco, not a position of honour but a position of responsibility and humility to our community. We want to see ourselves as servants and stewards and not as leaders because I strongly believe that we have many eminent and more qualified members that can lead us.
We shall serve and not rule."

Giving a hint on the goals of the new administration, Ofuokwu stated, "our priority will be to amongst other things, unite all our members under one roof by making them understand that unity is the greatest strength" while calling on members to show the spirit of unity.

"We are equally going to focus on members welfare and by so doing, make the majority of our members associate with the branch."

Other elected executives are Mr. Raphael Anyaobi, Assistant General Secretary and Mr. Chris Mogaha, Treasurer.

Other elected excos are Mr. Ikem Ogbeche and PRO, Mr. Asikabulu. The outgoing President, Mr. Morgan Agetua remains as Ex-Officio.

Mr. Morgan Agetua, the outgoing president, received accolades for his capable leadership and for guaranteeing a free and fair election in the aftermath.
