Never said an "Average Nigerian". There are many Nigerians who don't have anything to do & will gladly accept any paid labour that the prisoners would have done.

Come to Festac. They will curse you for suggesting such a job to them and still beg you to show love (give cash). I always speak from experience. Everybody no be you bruv

It's not actually a new idea. I remember back in those days, seeing men in white prison uniforms doing some manual labor while being guarded.
Have heard where some prison officials hire/engage prisoners to work in their own farms for some reward.
But I'm not quite sure if they have ever been used for public/government works, which is a very good idea & worth exploring.

My fear be say, make prisoners no come turn fugitives, whisk away enter town 😊, because Naija prison guards can be so ill-trained, under-armed, and even carefree to forestall incidents like that

They will definitely be useful in farming and construction companies as labourers.

Instead of wasting away in sell.

The pile up in the prison is even an eyesore.

Problem is that there are not enough jobs in Nigeria to go round, for law-abiding Nigerians, talk-less of for Prisoners.
Many Nigerians will gladly accept those jobs that the prisoners would have done.
He's talking about saving money and cutting cost by using prisoners as labor. What you're saying is totally different from what he's suggesting.

Cheap labour
Reno's point was for them to generate revenue. If such productive jobs are available, preference should be given to law-abiding citizens & not criminals.
Exceptions are for prisoners that posses rare skills.

If it is such a wonderful idea, what's stopping Govt from implementing it?

Mr. Reno Omokri there is no better place like home. No matter the kind of life you give me outside my comfort zone, I won't be comfortable at all. I should better eat garri in my home than eat sausage in prison.
Reno Omokri do you know what is called confinement?
They should be building roads. Who will monitor them not to run away. The cost of surveillance Mr. Reno Omokri didn't put that into consideration. We are in an insecured environment. The prisoners are still inside prisons are there are jailbreak, let alone taken out for jobs outside their confinement.
No doubt they can farm or do some menial jobs inside their confinement but to do the one listed by Reno Omokri, it will cost the government even more because of the nature of our country. The country he cited as an example doesn't have the kind insecurity we are experiencing in Nigeria.
This suggestion doesn't shake any table at all but instead shattered it.

Prisons are correctional centers, if you use crooked punishment on them, then criminals outside will be more brutal, hardened on people to avoid being caught and going to jail.

The problem we have is corruption brought by the way Nigeria is structured.

People who are incharge of those prisoners are the ones looting the food, the prisoners no dey even see food chop.

Let me break it down; Omokri is suggesting Govt should sack workers in construction sites & employ prisoners for free.
I don't think that's a wonderful idea.

Reno Ofoolery again. If they employ you as a prisoner, won’t you sabotage things out of vexation?

If you employ me as a prisoner to build a bridge, just give that bridge some months, you will hear about how some people sank into the Atlantic Ocean.

If they started using prisoners for such job majority of poor Nigeria will be out of menial jobs because d wages paid to prisoners will be so low but unacceptable to law abiding citizens.
