PRESS RELEASE
DEMOCRACY DAY: POLICE CLARIFIES, REFUTES SENATOR SANI'S MISLEADING CLAIMS

No Endsars Protester Still in Detention

The Nigeria Police Force categorically denies the recent allegations made by Senator Shehu Sani at the 2024 Democracy Day Dinner on June 12, 2024, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the former Senator falsely claimed that some young people have been detained since the 2020 EndSARS protest.

The Nigeria Police affirms that no individual is being unlawfully detained by the Nigeria Police Force or any other security agency in Nigeria due to the EndSARS protest. All arrested individuals have been processed according to the law, and none remain unlawfully detained. In Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pardoned approximately 100 suspects arrested by the Police during the protest.

For emphasis, no one anywhere in Nigeria is under Police detention or being wrongly persecuted for participating in the EndSARS protest. The issues surrounding the protest have been debated, researched, and documented, and lessons have been learnt. We have forgiven ourselves and moved on.

We urge the public to disregard this claim and remain assured of our commitment to upholding justice, the rule of law, and human rights. We encourage verifying information before making public statements to avoid harm and incitement.

ACP OLUMUYIWA ADEJOBI, mnipr, mipra, fCAI,
FORCE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER,
FOR: INSPECTORS-GENERAL OF POLICE

The criminal force will lie about it...

Nobody likes them.

The other night, while returning from a mall. My friend shouted at the officers trying to drag okada men who weren't even on the expressway to detain them.

The officers come dragging my car door to forcefully drag my friend out of the car to arrest him for speaking up.

These guys are criminals and liars.

The power given to them from the constitution should be limited and we need state policing as well.

tongue

They will still release another statement to tell us that only few people are in detention. Propaganda has been institutionalized in all govt sectors.

Once they deny anything, just know they are lying.

Those are the issues Mr Shehu Sani is talking about...those court has jailed...the President should pardon them

The senator said some are still in detention n his statement has been confirmed because according to the police statement, some are lawfully detained but we know how unlawful our uniform men can be.

Did the Police statement not confirm Sani's claim indirectly?
That nobody is being detained unlawfully suggests some are in detention though as the police said, they have been processed according to the law.
The problem with you guys is that you don't read and worst still, lacks the power to process what you read.

The height of Nigerian police corruption can not be imagined by a commoner. Unless u are in position, wealthy or person having a case with anyone of the mentioned class.
