The #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria are making waves, but there's a crucial aspect missing from the conversation.

While many are focusing their anger on President Tinubu and the federal government, we're overlooking a major part of the problem: our state governors, senators, and other officials.

From January to July 2024, the federal government has allocated significant funds to the states.
Here’s a brief look at some allocations:
- Delta State: N102.79 billion in June alone.
- Akwa Ibom State: N70.01 billion in June.
- Rivers State: N69.73 billion in June.
- Ekiti State: N16.95 billion in June.
- Lagos State: N253.92 billion from January to July.
- Kano State: N152.34 billion from January to July.
- Kaduna State: N120.44 billion from January to July.
- Plateau State: N88.90 billion from January to July.
- FCT (Abuja): N56.34 billion from January to July.
- Oyo State: N123.76 billion from January to July.
- Abia State: N95.05 billion from January to July.
- Imo State: N78.12 billion from January to July.

These figures show that states are getting hefty amounts, yet many are failing to deliver tangible results. Instead of holding our governors accountable, we’re fixated on President Tinubu.

Governors are supposed to use these funds to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education. However, many states are still struggling with poor roads, inadequate healthcare, and failing schools. Some governors even have the audacity to join protests while their own states suffer from mismanagement.

Our senators and House members receive massive amounts for constituency projects, yet many of these projects are either poorly executed or not completed at all. Despite this, there’s little scrutiny or accountability for how these funds are used.

Corruption isn’t limited to politicians. In the civil service, nepotism and bribery often block qualified Nigerians from getting jobs or services. Money meant for projects often gets embezzled, leaving citizens with nothing.

As we protest against the federal government, let’s not forget to hold state governors, senators, and civil servants accountable. The problems we face are systemic and involve every level of government. If we truly want change, we need to demand transparency and accountability from all our leaders, not just the president.

Let’s push for a comprehensive approach to governance reform and not let our anger be misdirected. It's time to tackle the root of the problem at every level of government.

Odewale Adesoye (A.K.A. Green Man) is saying God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Please in Tinubu's Manifesto, did he said that the senators, governors and all political office holders will share the blame if he failed?

Exactly I’ll hold Sim responsible because he removed subsidy and later reintroduced it from the backyard still yet fuel isn’t coming down

I’ll hold Sim accountable for increasing import duties and closing boarders not to allow food prices come down

I’ll hold Sim responsible because he promised to handle economy while Shettima handles security

I’ll hold Sim accountable because he floated naira and took dollar from 700 to 1900

Bla bla bla.

Fuel subsidy removal and naira devaluation are the two nuclear weapons that Tinubu launched against Nigeria.

True talk! It's high time we broaden our focus beyond just President Tinubu. Our state governors and lawmakers have their share of the blame too. Let's demand accountability across all levels of government. If we truly want change, we must shine the spotlight on everyone involved, not just one person. God bless Nigeria!

Dear sycophants.

On August 29 2023, Tinubu’s government promised to create 50 million jobs and revive the economy.

This is almost one year. How far with your messiah’s plan?

Where is the economic revival? Where are the jobs?

https://www.nairaland.com/7821154/tinubu-sets-3-year-economic-revival

Meanwhile, we are still looking for the 3 million jobs per year promised by APC when they took over power in 2015.

This was the most stupid statement that came out of the mouth of the president.
Was it the governors that removed fuel subsidy? No
Was it the governors that foster the naira? No
Was it the governors that controls monetary policies? No
Was it the governors that makes our 4 refineries not to work? No.

Thank God for Governor Obaseki who jerked minimum wage to 70k thereby enbolding NLC to stand it's ground if not, Tinubu wouldn't have shifted grounds from his initial 45k

Absolutely! It's high time we focus on accountability across all levels of government. President TINUBU is doing his best, but the real change will come when every official steps up and takes responsibility for their actions. Let's push for a collective effort in good governance!

Despite these hefty allocations, many states continue to struggle with poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and failing schools. To ensure that these funds are spent on improving the lives of citizens, the federal government can take several practical steps.

1. Establish a Transparent Reporting System

What: Create a mandatory, transparent reporting system where state governments must publish detailed monthly reports on how they spend federal allocations.

How: These reports should include specific projects, the amount of money spent, and the progress of each project. They should be easily accessible online for everyone to see.

Why: Transparency will allow citizens and watchdog organizations to monitor how funds are being used, making it harder for state officials to mismanage money without being noticed.

2. Implement Independent Audits

What: Conduct regular independent audits of state finances by credible accounting firms or organizations.

How: The federal government can hire these firms to review state spending quarterly. The results of these audits should be published and discussed publicly.

Why: Independent audits will provide an objective review of how funds are spent, helping to identify any discrepancies or mismanagement early on.

3. Strengthen Anti-Corruption Agencies

What: Empower agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute corruption at the state level.

How: Provide these agencies with more resources, legal backing, and independence from political interference.

Why: A strong and independent anti-corruption body can deter state officials from engaging in corrupt practices, knowing they are likely to be caught and punished.

4. Encourage Citizen Participation

What: Involve citizens in the budgeting and monitoring process.

How: Set up community forums and online platforms where citizens can give input on how they want their state’s funds to be used. Establish citizen-led monitoring committees to oversee projects.

Why: When citizens are actively involved, they can hold their leaders accountable and ensure that projects meet their needs.

5. Link Allocations to Performance

What: Tie future federal allocations to the performance of state governments in using previous funds effectively.

How: Develop a performance evaluation system that assesses states based on the completion and quality of projects, as well as financial transparency.

Why: This system will motivate state governments to use funds wisely and efficiently, knowing that their future funding depends on their current performance.

6. Strengthen Legislative Oversight

What: Empower state legislatures to more effectively oversee and hold governors accountable for their spending.

How: Provide training and resources to state legislators to enhance their ability to scrutinize budgets and expenditures. Encourage a culture of transparency and accountability within state assemblies.

Why: An empowered and vigilant legislative body can serve as a check on the executive branch, ensuring funds are spent as intended.

To make sure that the federal allocations are used for the benefit of the people, Nigeria needs a comprehensive approach that involves transparency, accountability, and active citizen participation. By establishing transparent reporting systems, conducting independent audits, strengthening anti-corruption agencies, encouraging citizen participation, linking allocations to performance, and strengthening legislative oversight, we can ensure that funds are spent on improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other critical areas.

Re: Hold All Government Officials Accountable, Not Just Tinubu - Odewaleadesoye by GanagiBitrus: 6:20am On Aug 06
Let's not shift the goal post. GEJ was held fully responsible during protests in his regime.

The way Nigeria is presently structured, there is so much power at the center so the President takes full responsibility for poor Governance.

Unless there is devolution of powers from the center & Nigeria is restructured into a true federation where all the states become independent federating units that manage their resources & pay tax to the center.
