Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about how the death of his dad affected his childhood. The ‘Calm Down’ crooner said the death of his father left him the responsibility of catering for his family at a young age and in the process, he was “forced to sell” his childhood. In a candid chat with GRM, Rema, 24, said he wants to “feel young again.” He said he recently started smoking cigarettes in a bid to feel “free and break some rules again.” Rema lamented that despite being an adult before deciding to smoke, people still criticise his decision because he’s a celebrity. He said, “I really wanted to feel like a child again… I feel like I grew up too fast. Life switched up on me crazy when I lost my dad and my brother. When people say it was Shallipopi that influenced him to start smoking, I only laugh...Cuz I don't believe anyone can influence anybody to start a bad habit if he's not interested in it in the first place.... Back in my poly days,I had a lot of gees who smoked...Tho they tried to compel me to go into smoking but I refuted and refused cuz I wasn't interested.... When Universal Music Group (UMG) acquired Mavin Records from Don Jazzy, I expected to see a lot more degeneracy and I was not wrong. Rema is now constantly seen smoking, Ayra Starr was seen almost naked, shaking her small nyash in Barbados with Rihanna few days back. If not for Universal, who born her papa well to hang out with Rihanna? Who dash monkey banana?? Something other A-list artists around the world can only dream of doing? The only people I pity are the parents who's children are already carving out role models from people like Ayra Starr and Rema. If you can't see by now what is going on, then I just implore you to watch them from now hence, because the degeneracy has only just begun.
