You can try and get it unlocked. Most of the phones I've used over the past 10 years are from the USA. For some of them, you can get unlock codes which you enter into the phone(like *unlock code#) and it's unlocked, some work for Nigerian sims right out the box, no unlock/or unlock code needed while some won't work no matter what you do. The latest one I got is a Samsung A01 from Verizon, it worked right out the box, but the band I keep seeing is E/Edge which is somewhere between 2G and 3G. Good luck

Don't mind those guys at computer village, they'll be charging for a service that, with proper research, can be done for little or no money . My phone worked right out the box but I've had phones that didn't work. I had an iPhone 6 that didn't work back then, I went online, searched and bought an unlock code for $1.50 and it worked after everything was done.

Don't get me wrong bro. Phone unlock services are still available in the US on sites like ebay and Craigslist and several other sites. Some folks will even unlock your phone for you remotely. The price in USD compared to the price to do same in Nigeria is much higher.

To switch to a new carrier in the US is very simple, take your old phone back and get a newer one if your credit is right and make installmental payments on the newer phone.

I know what I'm talking about bro. I can't even remember how many phones I've shipped or taken to Nigeria. I just know I prefer for all these phones to be unlocked in Nigeria than getting them unlocked here in the US by someone that will charge way more than it's done in Nigeria.

You have a point. I am a Technologist and just exploring on how to go about my ministry and business. Before to unlock phones from other countries used to be very easy, I don't know why things have changed for the worse.

I too have the same problem. I bought 2new Tecno phone in Saudi Arabia during just concluded hajj. It didn't work in Nigeria. I complained to the seller and he told me to return it back to Saudi that he unlock it here before it can work in Nigeria.
From different comments have read now, its better to be testing any phone from abroad with Nigeria Sim before buying it.

When I bought it from the owner (used)he said it's unlock I logged inn while I was with him and discovered that the phone are still locked ,there and then I showed it to him and asked him to call his provider and they unlocked it haven't discovered he has finished paying out his contract.

You need to be very careful. Some GSM phones, even unlocked, are not compatible with Nigeria network.

Forget, it will work, and easily too.
Last last they change the firmware.

You may be able to unlock it online buy buying an unlock code. Most network locked phones require this to use the phone on other networks.

Google phone unlocked, may require you to enter the Imei number and you pay and receive the unlock code... Or just go to computer village

I told you I told how to go about it to some neighbors, whose dad sent them phones from the US, but they've been selling it because these phones do not pick network in Nigeria. I sent them what to do via screenshots and they did it in a few easy steps. Now they're free from the shackles of overcharging phone technicians who would make you look like your phone problem is so difficult to fix.

And the funniest is the said phone is an Android device!

I can say it's that the phone is network locked, what must be noted is there are variety of networks thar could be attributed to the phone

But for the OP's device, it was regional programmed, not network locked.
Meaning it won't pick any network not known to operate within the US region.

A thoughtful perspective is offered
