The World Bank has urged the Nigerian government to increase its investment in nutrition programs, highlighting the potential for substantial economic returns.

According to the global financial institution, “every dollar spent on nutrition could yield up to $23 in returns, underscoring the critical importance of addressing malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations.”

This appeal comes amid alarming rates of child stunting and maternal anemia in Nigeria, which pose serious challenges to the nation’s health and economic development.

The World Bank’s Investment Framework for Nutrition highlights that globally, “Investing in nutrition is not just about health; it’s about economic growth.”

In Nigeria, where 11 million children suffer from stunting and over 50% of pregnant women are anemic, these returns could be even higher, with potential gains of up to $23 for each dollar invested.

With the prices of protein rich food out of reach to the vulnerable, Nigeria should expect to see the comeback of be beri-beri, kwashiorkor and Marasmus, diseases present during the Nigerian civil war.

Also Generation Alpa and Beta will be at a disadvantage globally because while the counterparts abroad and in other neighbouring countries grow, Nigeria's children will develop with stunted growth, and poor cognitive development

The World Bank is dictating the austerity measures backed with loans that the government is implementing hook line and sinker. They said this measures would take about 15 years to produce gain

That means after tilumbu, a tilumbu pro max would come too and continue from where tilumbu stopped

If in the first year of tilumbu hardship reforms, they are complaining about malnourished children , what would happen in 15 years time

I nor blame world bank at all....na the developer of lagos I blame

Who takes world bank seriously anymore?

Same IMF and World Bank that blackmailed the mandate thief in AsoRock into doing their bidding is now claiming innocent interests

For whoever cares to know, the hardship in Nigeria is sponsored by the West through IMF and World Bank who insisted that Tinubu must remove subsidy and devalue Naira simultaneously or lose his stolen mandate

This is very high now as most Nigerians are not feeding well again. If any disease outbreak should happen again in Nigeria, there will be a disaster as the immune system of most Nigerians are weak because of poor feeding
