While the multiple-entry visa previously allowed holders to enter and leave Canada freely, a government update said that the 10-year multiple-entry visa is no longer viewed as the “standard document.”

The Canadian government has announced the cancellation of the 10-year multiple-entry visa for Nigerians and citizens of other countries.

The authorities said that the cancellation of 10-year multiple-entry visa is part of the government’s efforts to curb immigration after experiencing a post-COVID population surge.

While the multiple-entry visa previously allowed holders to enter and leave Canada freely, a government update said that the 10-year multiple-entry visa is no longer viewed as the “standard document.”

The update by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) added, “Guidance has been updated to indicate that multiple-entry visas issued to maximum validity are no longer considered to be the standard document.”

The IRCC further stated that immigration officers now have the discretion to decide between issuing single-entry or multiple-entry visas and to determine their validity periods.

Recall that in October this year, the IRCC announced a revised target for permanent residents, reducing the goal for 2025 from 500,000 to 395,000.

The target for 2026 will drop from 500,000 to 380,000, and in 2027, Canada plans to admit 365,000 permanent residents.

Nigerians don't understand that people are watching and are not happy even when they are smiling. We need to repair our country. There is nothing funny about Japa it's embarrassing. We need prayer seriously.

Canada is the joke of North America now! The country has bitten more than it can chew.

It’s already late! Admitting people when you don’t have the infrastructure and opportunities. Now the country is in a hell mess.

Healthcare, security and housing already on the verge of collapsing. Unemployment should be another topic.

It’s late already…. They only need to make big investment to catch-up with population growth.

I invested in that growth and won. I wish they could still admit like like more million people.

Untill we come together and kick out corrupt self serving wicked heartless incompetent people like Tinubu we will continue to be seen as less humans by countries like Canada. Nigerians shouldn't have any business with poverty and hunger if we have the right people in positions of power.

End of the Student Direct Stream and Nigeria Student Express

Ottawa, November 8, 2024—Canada is committed to giving all international students equal and fair access to the application process for study permits.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) was launched in 2018 to provide faster processing for eligible post-secondary students. The SDS was eventually opened to legal residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam. Prospective university students from Nigeria had a similar process with the Nigeria Student Express (NSE).

Canada's goal is to strengthen program integrity, address student vulnerability, and give all students equal and fair access to the application process, as well as a positive academic experience. To meet this commitment, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student Express (NSE) initiatives have ended as of 2:00 p.m. ET today.

Prospective students are invited to apply through the regular study permit stream, which accepts Guaranteed Investment Certificates as proof of financial support. Canada will continue to welcome international students from all around the world.

Next steps for prospective students:
Eligible SDS and NSE applications received before 2:00 p.m. ET on November 8, 2024, will be processed under these streams. Study permit applications submitted on or after this time will be processed under the regular study permit stream.

This change will not adversely affect eligibility for those who wish to apply for a study permit from a country where the SDS or NSE initiatives have been offered. All students, regardless of whether they were eligible for the SDS or NSE, are required to meet Canada’s study permit application requirements.

Border officials will issue holders a one time entry visa anytime they come, or turn them back if the reasons is not cogent enough!

Anticipated.
Too many people from several nations upped and japa-ed to Canada in just one year alone.
That surge in population will strain the country's infrastructure.

Did you also think about economy gains, they would have made from that policy? The economy gains would be, far far outnumbered lamentations you are making for them. Having used immigrants for whatever they need them for, they are now closing doors against them, and after closing doors, if they still notice foreigners keep giving them discomforts, they will start throwing them outside.

You rather pity ur brothers and sisters that are being used and dumped, instead of wise nation

How will Nigeria be great if we continue to borrow from the IMF? IMF is made for developing countries, but make them stay developing, they will never develop.

Silly!

After making good money out of selling various immigration schemes, they even organized seminars to showcase Canadian dreams; now, they don't want people again.

So what quality of thinking went into their immigration schemes?

New immigrants were living under terrible conditions, worse than their conditions in their home countries. Some died, waiting to be assimilated.

For immigrants, look beyond Canada. There are several countries you can live well if you have something doing. Canada is overrated. Some folks there complain of high taxes and expensive lifestyle.
