Ogar Solomon Ogar Slams Emmanuel Unah’s Appointment as Chief Press Secretary for Yala Council

Abuja-based media consultant and critic Ogar Solomon Ogar has launched a scathing critique of Mr. Emmanuel Unah’s recent reappointment as Chief Press Secretary (CPS) for Yala Council by Dr. Fred Okem. In a public statement, Ogar questioned Unah’s qualifications and readiness for the role, pointing to Unah’s previous stint in the same position between 2007 and 2010 under former Council Chairman Hon. Fidel Egoro, which Ogar described as “shabby” and “disastrous.”

“Emmanuel Unah’s appointment is the type of recycled old news that people will think is fresh while it’s not,” Ogar stated. “This is 2024, fourteen years after he left office, yet he is back again to do a job he doesn’t have a grasp of, and he doesn’t spend the time to learn.”

Ogar did not hold back in his critique, pointing out that Unah had ample time over the past decade to develop professionally and mentor young talent in journalism but apparently failed to do so. “Don’t you have anyone you have groomed in journalism to be recommended for this job?” Ogar questioned.

He continued, “There’s an enormous amount of work that goes into getting ready for this job, but consistently Unah does not have the mental content and energy to put in that level of work.” Ogar characterized Unah’s communication style as “garrulous, irritating, and abusive,” adding, “You are even more insufferable than we already knew completely oblivious, entitled, and not at all fit for the job.”

Ogar mocked Unah’s recent decision to add “Pastor” to his title, suggesting that a title change is no substitute for qualifications and readiness for a demanding press secretary role.

“Anyway, you need to take that job offer because I doubt anyone will want to hire you after the election,” he added, signing off his message with a pointed jab at Unah’s history in the role: “I wish you an unsuccessful tenure!”
