The management of Dangote Refinery is set to meet with officials of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria to discuss direct petrol supply arrangements.

This development comes just a day after the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria announced it had reached an agreement with Dangote Refinery to purchase petrol directly, bypassing intermediaries.

PETROAN Publicity Secretary, Joseph Obele, told our correspondent on Tuesday that the refinery had already sent an email to PETROAN President, Dr. Billy Harry, proposing a business meeting in the coming days.

According to Obele, Dr. Harry has formed a team of seven representatives, led by himself, to attend the meeting on behalf of PETROAN.

“The Head of Commercial at Dangote Refinery has sent an email to the National President of PETROAN, Dr. Billy Harry, regarding an upcoming strategic business meeting,” Obele said.

“At this proposed meeting, PETROAN’s primary objective will be to ensure affordable, high-quality products for consumers while adhering to all regulatory standards and industry best practices,” he emphasised.

Obele expressed optimism that “the meeting will be mutually beneficial—a win for the public, Dangote Refinery, and petroleum retail outlet owners.”

In a statement on Tuesday, PETROAN’s National Headquarters commended Dangote Refinery’s management for establishing a direct sales agreement for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with IPMAN, removing the role of intermediaries previously played by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

PETROAN also noted indicators that PMS prices could decrease soon.
“Factors contributing to this include recent discussions between Dangote Refinery and key industry stakeholders, as well as a reduction in the landing costs of PMS in Nigeria, reflecting global market adjustments and improvements in the supply chain.”

PETROAN further highlighted that the oil and gas sector is sensitive, and strategic discussions are essential to maintaining operational efficiency and sector harmony.

“We once again commend Dangote Refinery for recognising the importance of stakeholder engagement, and we are optimistic that the primary beneficiaries will be the general public,” PETROAN stated.

The PUNCH recalls that PETROAN recently reported reaching an agreement with international traders to import petrol and offer it at prices lower than those from Dangote Refinery and the NNPC.

Dangote was not well advised..why put the cart before the Horse? He should have done all these engagements long ago. I hope he has learnt his lessons that Nigerians can not be taken for granted.

He should monopolize it a thousand times. Is it Dangote that told NNPC to abandon the three refineries we have and turn them to cash embezzlement cow? If he is the only one that has the guts to operate a refinery, let him go ahead. Other people are free to build refineries too. We like chasing shadows and making baseless allegations in this country too much

Help me ask them. Nigerians love jumping into cliche bandwagons. I've told people that there's nothing dangote produces that he's fully monopolizing. It's not his fault that his competition is pathetic.

You don't really understand Nigerian situation.

The refinery will never work just as the power sector will never work intil government hand it over to private operators like Dangote.

Saboteur within government will never allow the sector work. Do you know the number of time national grid had collapsed due to vandals. Same way Nigerian run refinery is being sabotaged.

Are you not surprised that country we supplied power enjoy uninterrupted power because their citizen are patriotic unlike our politicians here who sponsor destruction of National assets for political gain.

Very pathetic and annoying the kind of mentality people have in this country. For Dangote cement, there is at least Bua and Larfage cements in the market. For Dangote sugar, there is Bua and Golden penny sugars as well. Dangoote started nodles but sold the line to indomie, no body complained. At least everyone has the freedom to invest and compete, but no, people will just be shouting monopoly up and down. None of them is ready to hold the useless NNPC and their useless political representatives who have stolen several generations wealth and invested abroad accountable, not even here to create little jobs. It is quite a pity

Is that why Dangote should bear the blames? It is not his fault that the politicians and other people in high places are useless. They have the money they can invest but they will not. After everything, Dangote that is now trying to invest is coming under insult from people as if he is stopping others from business

It’s encouraging to see Dangote Refinery and PETROAN coming together to discuss direct petrol supply options. Cutting out intermediaries could make a huge difference in terms of affordability and efficiency, potentially lowering petrol prices for consumers. This approach can also improve transparency and supply chain management, which are both much needed in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The proactive steps taken by PETROAN to ensure that any agreement meets regulatory standards and maintains product quality is commendable. It’s also a positive sign that IPMAN has already secured a similar deal, setting the stage for a more streamlined process across the industry. With all these direct agreements in place, there’s hope that consumers will soon see the benefits at the pump.

As PETROAN highlighted, strategic discussions like these are vital for operational efficiency and industry harmony. If all goes well, this collaboration could be a significant win for everyone involved—Dangote Refinery, the retailers, and most importantly, the general public.

Dangote is the real deal.

The way this game is playing out, the only thing left is for the government to enforce a price cap on the fuel and we are good to go.
