In a bold move that could redefine the tech industry, top antitrust officials from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) are reportedly preparing to ask a federal judge to require Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, to divest its popular Chrome browser.

The demand, if approved, would mark one of the most aggressive antitrust enforcement actions against a technology company in decades, potentially reshaping the online search and artificial intelligence (AI) markets.

The DOJ's initiative comes in the wake of an August ruling by Judge Amit Mehta, which found that Google had unlawfully monopolized the search market.

This new step aims to enforce structural remedies, including significant measures related to Google’s AI initiatives and its Android smartphone operating system, according to sources familiar with the case.

Alongside the DOJ, several state attorneys general who have joined the antitrust lawsuit are expected to recommend additional measures.
