Quiet everybody!!! Will your formulas bring money? I studied physics and now on the line of Telecommunication and it's been so rewarding. If you wanna be a lecturer or a teacher, keep on with your formulas and mathematical analysis otherwise go for a professional programme

@marshall4,
Which professional exams would you advise a physics grad to go for? someone interested in telecoms/computers

Mr Man, stop talking like a farmer.
Is it not analysis and formulae you will use in the telecom. Or are you 'on the line of' 'Road-side telecom'?

@AJ Are you in the field of telecommunication? I have my Bsc in physics, Prof diploma in System Engineering(A+, N+ MCITP-EA and linux admin). I'll spare you the details but you don't need to apply such equation in Physics in resolving problems as you're dealing with cables, systems and hardware devices. Good knowledge of math is all you need especially when installing networks, ok? CHEERS!

Obviously a roadside telecom somebody, parading CompTIA certifications as 'telecom' qualifications.

This is part of the problem in Nigeria. This kind of person will now start working as an RF engineer with ZERO understanding of the physics behind RF, and keep earning his network hefty fines from NCC. angry

@AJ I can bodly say that you're a complete novice when it comes to I.T. I'm currently among the few Network Administrators at MTN network in Accra because of my technical know-how and the ability to providing business solution. Where are you qualifications? for your information, RF engineering is a subset of electrical engineering dealing with devices that are designed to operate in the Radio Frequency spectrum. And I'm happy doing my Msc in EE. Cheers once again.

@marshall, u ar not getng AJ right at all! he s nt sayng u dnt need maths or even chemistry, but most impotantly and fundamentaly u canot do RF without good understandng f d underlying physics, mathematical tools will b used t do the physical analysis which will b electronic n nature! any good electronic engineer will agree to this.

Wen it comes to telecom n NL I do call myself ajanlekoko n salihu's baby cos their info is an integral part of where I am today, buh frm d look of tinz u seem to b my baby telecom-wise if A+, N+ n co is ur benchmark , I laff in telugu because it simply means u r a grand child to d person u called a novice....u can boldly say, na wa oooooo

If u wanna shoot/fight me (cos I knw u will), me nor dey fight for NL oooo, buh if u wanna do so technically telecom-wise den bring ur ball to d court, as a child to ur grandfather I promise to skool u properly, infact pple like u will benefit a lot form d telecom E-learning site m creating, I gotta hurry. U parade A+, N+ n mcitp for telecoms shocked u shld cover ur eyes, afi Ghana nor....nonsense

NL is turning to a comedy center ds days, I checked up ur profile to find out dt u only registered in 2012, its rili funny as u just jumped in n jumped d gun.......LMAO, shocked shocked

next time try to watch n listen hun, now u go n b a good boy in ur network admin job for MTN cos some pple r network engineers for d same company n dey don't make noise

@larion, why I go fight u? this forum no be for boxers or wrestlers...I've played the role of a network engineer with vodafone telecomms for just 3yrs after a some period of training then I had just my HND in EE....But currently I hold a Bsc in physics along with a prof.diploma in system engineering and other I.T certification. Getting a job as a Network Admin in MTN is kinda interesting. I think creating a site for telecomm E-learning is not bad at all as maybe I could learn one or two things from it..I think my next line with be Network security as I'm a good hacker and I intend to use it for good.....cheer larion!

Network security, dts a nice one, if nt for my undying love for telecom dt wld v bin my option, its a cool career, y nt join info security with it too, u ll cope, it just takes commitment n studying, try to investigate d training center b4 u give dem ur moni ooooo, ds naija centers na just thief,

If u v d cash u cld go to ameerpet, I knw some badt boys there, they broke out of Mist to form their on training center n dey r doing good, and wen u hear mist u shld fear dem security wise, a good number of security guys in naija are product of d institute

Cheers to ur new career, goodluck bro

Its truly nt NIIT's p, dat young lady obviously wasn't keen abt getting d knowledge bt d certificate. I did MCITP in NIIT a̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ tho I joined d class kinda late I grabbed a lot thru our practicals and all. NIIT or any institute as for me are not exactly d causes bt d individuals.

Well u may be right but i can't recommend a friend to study either networking, software engineering or even programming at niit. I did my mcitp here in accra and it was cool as u'll get ur hands on good softwares and comprehensive materials. Their fees are 65% of niit fees. I heard there's a training center dealing strictly on telecom at ikotun(neonet wireless africa). They specialise on solely on live practicals like network mast installation, cisco equipments and many more.

Hello scientists. So happy 2 find dis thread. Pls i need some info n guides. Am a fresh physics grad (serving presently). Read pure physics. Pls i need info on which professional course or training 2 go for. I have been into cable connections, RF on telecm masts 4 few months b4 nysc. I hav interest in telecoms. + shud i go 4 pgd Elect Eng. Or M.sc in physics. Tnks. wuld appreciate ur advise.
Re: Physics Graduates: Lets Meet Here by kunlejazz(m): 4:05pm On Sep 29, 2012
Can't believe I've been on NL for so long and have never thought of starting a thread like this. I have a degree in Physics and I'm working in the telecoms sector. I think a good degree in Physics is the best thing that can happen to any ambitious fellow, no bias. You'll find out after ur first degree that there's almost nothing you can't and doesn't want to do. Studying physics really does get frustrating a times cos of the depth but it's one of the few things on earth that gives me joy. Now for anyone just coming out of school or intending to study physics in Nigeria with the hope of going into telecoms, I'd like u to consider this very practical path to becoming an expert and a big earner in the industry in Nigeria-a purely Nigerian solution, you might want to do the ffg:
1. Get a job with any ICT firm (Telecoms/Network engineering) however lowly placed, you'll get better and better ones as u continue in d process
2. Pursue cisco certifications to expert level(CCIE R&S or CCIE SP) and
3. Proceed for an MSc (part-time if u will) in Electronics/telecoms/IT
By the end of this which should take between 3-5yrs, along with 3-5 yrs experience, almost every top ICT firm in Nigeria will want you, even if they don't need you, talkless out side Nigeria. This not only makes u an expert in ur field, it brings you to a level playing ground as other experts all over the world. I know pple who towed d same line, some even without expert level certification but with a lot of experience. They're sought for all over the world.

I get ur point bro but the problem isn't really d job, its the fact that most pple over-rate their worth and wouldn't want to start small. I personally know a good number of firms that will consider almost any graduate (one smart enuff though) for the post of trainee engr(with very little pay of course, 30-50k), and that, my brother is a VERY good way to start but here's d question, how many of how almighty 2.1, first class graduates can stoop that low? The problem really is the entry point, getting into the industry and what I stated above will solve that.

I agree that Physics graduates are very intelligent. I am a graduate of Eng. Physic... I then went on to study theoretical physics (M.Sc) in North America. Interesting stuff eh! But if you are thinking of working for people or a company you would need to acquire a specialized skill (like programming, etc) or some certification to be employable.

I found that in the western world, most companies would prefer to hire someone with an Engineering degree or some certification. It took me a while to find a job with my Physics degrees. I had to get some more degrees and certifications just to get an interview. I added a Management degree to my list of credentials…not to talk of many safety courses (more than 30) and certifications.

While studying for my Management degree, I was disappointed to learn that most of the HR students don’t even know what a Physics graduate can do… they think it is some high school course. I guess that is the major issue because they will be selecting applicants for job interviews later. They find it very difficult to place your resume somewhere…Remember that there are hundreds of other applicants with Engineering degrees or industry specific degrees they can easily identify with.

Anyways, after searching for jobs for years and working on jobs I hated, I decided to start my own company…why not. So I would encourage physics graduates to start thinking of starting their own businesses too. Must you work for someone or get a PhD or something? Don’t get me wrong. If you have real passion for research and teaching, go for your PhD. But, if you just want to earn a good living and support your family, think of starting your own business. After all, you can only make real money working for yourself. My business is doing very well now. It’s been about 4 years since I started my business. All those degrees and safety courses have been very useful.
