Why Does A Married Nigerian Woman Need Her Husband To Renew Her Passport? - Lady by nlfpmod: 3:05pm On Nov 29
Hello @nigimmigration why does a married Nigerian woman need to attach her husband's passport page or proof of her husband's identity before she can renew her passport? Is this really the new policy you're following? Is everything okay? This is official policy?!

You already demand proof from local govt, and population office, why does a woman need to attach her husband's identity to her own before she can renew her passport?
This country looks for ways to invalidate women's existence everyday.
We are people too. @nigimmigration

I have a birth certificate that proves who I am. Information on my NIN proves my identity, yet because my old passport carries my married name, I have to attach my husband's passport page or proof of his identity? What if I'm divorced? So I'm no longer Nigerian?!

Do you realise how dangerous this is for women trying to escape all kinds of things, including domestic violence?

Are you saying a woman has no identity of her own? If my birth certificate and NIN is not enough, then what?! @nigimmi

You're busy celebrating your new contactless passport process, while adding more hoops for women to jump through just to prove their own identity.

Are you asking men to do this or is it just women who can't own their own identities?! @nigimmigration

Imagine a woman trying to get away from an abusive situation. Because the name on her birth certificate is different from the name on her current passport, she must put herself back in harm's way to obtain her abuser's passport page just to renew her passport?

I'm not a victim of DV, just a woman in the middle of a divorce trying to get a new passport. @nigimmigration
Am I Nigerian or not? My birth certificate says I am. So does my NIN. What's your verdict?
Should I bring you my blood? Or my children?!

This country just cannot stop dehumanising women.

You're drawing up a new policy. You've been sued before for doing nonsense like this.

And no one thought to make sure it doesn't happen again?

@nigimmigration hello?

Started trying to renew my passport last week and just put on the breaks when I got this info because frankly, I was sick and tired.

I woke up this morning just pissed off again. @nigimmigration why do you people like stressing someone?

I'm told the website will automatically reject your upload if the name on your current passport is different from your birth certificate, if you don't upload your husband's passport page. @nigimmigration THIS is the amazing contactless service you're celebrating?

Hello sir. @DrJoeabah you showed us when you renewed your passport recently and how easy it was. Please pardon my forwardness. Has your wife renewed hers? Did she need to attach your identity before she could? @nigimmigration

All this for a renewal. Meanwhile this is information we already provided when the first e-passports were launched.

Honestly I'm sick of it all. Sick of needing to prove my humanity, even to government agencies in my own country @nigimmigration

And bear in mind that if you were born before 1992, you can't use your old birth certificate. You have to go to the population council office to get age attestation. And then go to your local govt office to prove you're from there. THEN add extra layers for women. @nigimmigration

HOPE NOTHING??! IS YOUR JACKET ALRIGHT @nigimmigration

I stopped reading her useless rants at this very point

Everything shouldnt be about 'dehumanising women" or indirect gender war

She asked 10000 questions and wasnt patient enough to get the answers

You make your arguments tasteless when you conjure some hypothetical scenarios laced with nonsensical victimization cries in important subjects like this

She ended it with direct insults.

If i were @nigimmigration account handler, I would just ignore and post about something unrelated . Spits

I hate to be the one to say this, but things don’t work that way. We can all act woke and say whatever we feel, but the reality is that men and women are not equal. Husbands and wives are not equal, especially in Nigeria.

Women can’t get what they want by just complaining. You put in the work, and then you get results. So, what are Nigerian feminists doing? Nothing, yet they want everything men have.

When Adichie found herself among top Igbo men, guess what she talked about? Why women don’t break kola nuts. Another time, it was why women don’t eat gizzards. Petty, trivial things.

Essentially, the jobs women did 100 years ago are the same ones they’re doing today, albeit in more conducive environments, thanks to infrastructures built, serviced, and maintained by men. About 90% of the world’s infrastructure has been built and maintained by men, so where’s the equality?

When these people clamor for equality, they’re asking for a 50% share of what men have built, not for opportunities to start something from scratch on virgin land.

Do I want women to renew their passports without unnecessary stress? Absolutely. Is it injustice because her husband doesn’t go through the same stress? Not at all. You build a system, you make the rules.

If to say na women build the world as e dey today, I swear na for Sudan dey go park all men put and enjoy the rest of the world.

Very anyhow people

Because the husband is the lord over the woman. And he paid her bride price so she must kneel down to take permission from him before renewing her passport. Is our tradition.

There are deep rooted flaws in how Nigeria is structured. This is the reason a questionable character like Tinubu who lacks basic knowledge about governance and the economy is president today

It makes no sense

Even if you did it because of women that got citizenship through marriage. Divorce do3s not invalidate citizenship.

You can get married today, obtain your citizenship tomorrow and next tomorrow you divorce. It does not invalidate the citizenship.

Once you are married as a lady you no longer own yourself bcs you have been bought and fed by the man undecided and let this sink as long as men are the one climbing on top of you lady men remain the head. So no married woman owned herself her dead and living body belongs to the husband here in Africa and that's why women are mostly buried in their husbands backyard and not in their father's house whenever they kissed the dust undecided

Why is this woman inciting an unnecessary gender conflict just to evoke emotions?

I'm an immigration officer, and much of what she wrote is inaccurate. The NIS does not require your husband's identity while processing a standard renewal. Such is only requested for in a situation whereby you're changing your surname either due to marriage, divorce or death.

So asking for such in the above circumstances aren't out of place, you can't just decide to change your surname without providing additional documents to back it up aside the birth certificate & local government identity.

This is an unjustified victimization of the service.

Is this person sure she is applying for Nigeria passport? When my wife applied for her passport, no such request was made of her. I just check the immigration page. I did not see such requirement

That is not true for all culture in some culture the women in e dead are returned to their father's house for burial people like igala ijaw don't bury thier wives in their house they are returned to their fathers compound for burial
BoldBrainz:
With a face like that, it's no surprise the Immigration office is asking for her husband's identity so they can understand who was bold enough to put a feminist goblin in his home.
