The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has refuted claims by a community leader in Alesa, Rivers State, alleging that the Port Harcourt refinery is not yet producing fuel.

In a statement released on Friday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye criticized the comments made by the community leader, describing them as a display of ignorance about refinery operations. Soneye explained that while he would have typically ignored such remarks, he felt compelled to respond in order to clarify the situation.

Timothy Mgbere, reportedly a leader in the Alesa community, appeared on national television on Thursday, where he accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of misleading Nigerians by claiming that the Port Harcourt refinery is already processing crude oil.

According to Soneye, the Port Harcourt refinery is now operating at 90% capacity. He emphasized that the allegations lacked merit and were inconsistent with the facts, particularly as the refinery has been actively producing and distributing fuel. Soneye pointed out contradictions in the community leader’s claims.

What NNPC is Saying

The NNPC spokesperson noted that the leader had acknowledged fuel being loaded out from the refinery’s gantry but dismissed it as “old stock” from the previous refinery, which, Soneye argued, further undermined the credibility of the allegations.

“He (Mgbere) claimed that the old Port Harcourt Refinery was only operating skeletally and was not processing PMS. His proof was that the PMS truck-out was done at the gantry of the new Port Harcourt Refinery as against the gantry of the old Port Harcourt Refinery.

“This betrays his scant knowledge of the operations of the refinery. The old and new Port Harcourt Refineries have since been integrated with one single terminal for product load-out.

“They share common utilities like power and storage tanks. This means that storage tanks and loading gantry which he claimed belong to the new Port-Harcourt Refinery can also receive products from the Old Port Harcourt Refinery

“The nameplate capacity of the refinery is 60,000 barrels of oil per day. It is currently producing at 90 per cent throughput which translates to Straight-Run gasoline (Naphtha) blended into 1.4 million liters of PMS, aside from other products like diesel and kerosene.

“We call on the general public to disregard the claims of the self-acclaimed ‘community person’ which are obviously borne out of sheer mischief and blatant display of ignorance,” Soneye said.

You can imagine, that shameless so-called community leader was contradicting himself. He said some units of the refinery are up and running and on the other hand, he was saying the refinery was selling old stock. Double speaking from his ogogoro joint. Meanwhile, headless mob ran to town with the fake news, celebrating bitterness and negativity. They have allowed anybody to shît on their heads as long as the news is negative.
The only group of people that I can believe when they speak otherwise are the major oil marketers, not one community ogogoro drunkard. The oil marketers are fearless that they'd confront you face to face, Dangote collect from them, Mele Kyari too collect. So far, none of them has come out to say PH refinery is not working, rather they have commended it.

We know already na only gullible Agbado brains Dey deceived . The only way to confirm a refinery is working is to invite independent truckers to inspect and buy fuel from those refineries and not show us stage managed videos like they did in the early stages of boko haram which lies led to FG allowing their terrorist activities to spirall out of control. Lies and deceit can never get the country anywhere but ruin Nigeria further

They are trying to sell imported fuel to Nigerians through non functional refineries. If the refineries are actually working, how on God’s earth would price of fuel move from less than 200n to more than 1000n in less than a year . Why would dangote be demanding billions of dollars in FX to import crude? Does that make sense to anybody with common sense?

Get your information at hand before displaying your ignorance on live TV. This can't happen abroad because you are not a government spoke person. White are not perfect but keep their disgrace to themselves. You can just wake up from your cave and go on live TV to feed the citizen wrong information concerning government property. Some people need to be thought a lesson.

Sigh... This Port Harcourt refinery matter has dragged on for too long.

It's beyond embarrassing.

Instead of being defensive and pulling stats from the air, simply stfu and show results with people lifting fuel.

Evidence doesn't hide.

People with very little information about an issue, would come online/ tv , to say whole lot fallacies to disinform people, anyway they, always succeeded in doing that, because majority have conditioned their ears to hear only negative things about govt/ others.

90% of such people gathered here too to misinform and disinform others.
