Nigeria's Stand to End Rape Initiative Embroiled in Workplace Abuse Scandal The Stand to End Rape (STER) Initiative, a prominent Nigerian nonprofit organization advocating for survivors of sexual violence, has been rocked by allegations of systemic workplace abuse and mistreatment of staff members. Current and former employees have come forward with disturbing accounts of exploitation, harassment and unfair labor practices. Plangnan Saleh, a former staff member detailed her experiences in an open letter, describing a "deeply toxic work environment" that contradicts the organization's mission. Saleh alleged that STER consistently rejects staff resignation letters only to terminate employment later. This practice, Saleh argued, demonstrates blatant disregard for employees' well being. Ojoma Abrahams, another former staff member, corroborated Saleh's claims, recounting sleepless nights, emotional manipulation and gaslighting. Abrahams revealed that STER wrote a negative reference, costing her a job opportunity. Akom Nya, who worked at STER for over a year, deemed the leadership "unfit" to head any organization. The organization stands accused of violating Nigerian labor laws, particularly regarding maternity leave. A staff member was allegedly denied leave and forced to work despite personal losses. The whistleblowers urge potential employees, partners and supporters to demand transparency and accountability from STER. They emphasize the need for internal reform to align the organization's practices with its public values. Saleh anticipates legal action from STER but asserts that evidence supports his claims. Abrahams expects threats but remains resolute in exposing the truth. The allegations have sparked widespread outrage with many calling for investigations and reform within STER. Supporters of the whistleblowers have expressed solidarity on social media. At the time of publication, Stand to End Rape Initiative had not publicly addressed the allegations. The organization's leadership has yet to comment on the mounting accusations. As Nigeria's nonprofit sector grows, instances of workplace abuse highlight the need for increased scrutiny and accountability. The STER scandal serves as a stark reminder that organisations advocating for human rights must prioritise internal integrity. 1 Share

It's next to impossible to rape a woman in the workplace if she did not make herself available. Obviously, you cannot be raped at your desk so auntie how did you manage to be alone with brother in the rest room, under staircase or boiler room? That's not rape. That's you lying after getting caught or catching cold feet because brother's terms after the deed was not favourable. 1 Like |

So many evidence against the organisation and the CEO. That's very shameful of an organisation posing to fight for abused ladies. Funders must investigate them |

Except if there's a part not written up there, there's no mention of rape or sexual harassment... Just looks like someone that became too comfortable at a workplace losing her job... Having no concrete evidence, she comes online to string sentences together in a bid to sound intelligent If these are the issues, then e be like say them dey pamper una too much for that NGO |
