budaatum: I use a pressure cooker. Once its boiled for 5 minutes, switch off the gas and let the pressure do the rest. What is the difference between a pressure cooker and a pressure pot? |

Get a pressure pot and thank me later |

Chijeep: Ever since the price of cooking gas and even kerosene and charcoal skyrocketed many Nigerians have dumped beans cooking but instead opted for buying cooked beans from vendors because of the high consumption of the fuel used in preparation of it. But thank God for this brief method that help in saving gas efficiently.
Let me share with you how it works so that you too can also give it a try...
Picture1 shows how it starts:- You rinse your beans and pour it in your pot with water and add adequate salt and lit it on your gas.
Picture2 shows that the beans is boiling on the gas and then after you turn off your gas and leave the beans in the boiling water for some minutes.
picture3 after leaving the beans for some minutes and the boiling water is becoming warm then you on your gas again and allow it to bring again for about 5min and then you off your gas again.
Picture4 is that last stage as you can see the beans is already done and ready to consume but if you wish to cook it as porridge you can add all the necessary ingredients and cook till completely done There's no disadvantage in preparing your beans this way but you will have to be close to keep watch and save your gas so that it will give you the most preferable result
THANKS AND I HOPE YOU GIVE IT A TRY Soak the beans inside a bucket through out the night. And in the morning, you start cooking it. After like 15 minutes, you change the water and add onion. That way within 30 to 50 minutes your beans is good to go. |

Are you for real? I pressure cook my beans for at least 40 minutes Wooow. That's an overkill and huge waste of time and gas. I use pressure cooker to cook mine for 6 mins and it becomes soft. |
Re: The Best Economical Way To Cook Your Beans With Gas(pics) by Nefort: 9:01pm On Dec 21, 2024 |
budaatum:
Your pressure cooker might not be as pressured as mine.
It continues cooking for about 30 minutes after you switch the gas off. That's not even necessary. I pressure cook my beans for about 6 mins after initially boiling it normally for 10 mins. After pressure cooking for 6 mins I immediately remove the pressure an open the pot and the beans is already soft. 1 Like 1 Share |

You do your research. Water leeches water soluble minerals in all things, but is an inconsequential amount compared to what is in beans ! You're incorrect |

THANKS AND I HOPE YOU GIVE IT A TRY Why are we adding salt? How much salt are we talking about? What has always worked for me is slaking the beans overnight or early morning or whatever time works for you. When you do the soaking, give the beans about 6 hours to soak. In the morning, pour that water and put fresh water, then boil the beans. You do not need to add anything. |

Olayinka8793: you drain your beans twice? Is there a reason for it that is better than draining it once? Cos na once me dey drain my beans and I might start draining twice like you if you give me good reason It because of those chemicals or preservatives used in keeping the bean dry and weevil free. when you drain the first water out, I hope you notice the colour of the water and it smells. why most people run away from beans it cos of how it was prepared, beans do purge me before and indigestion will follow. but after I discovered to drain the beans water twice, it stopped. I eat beans very well now. 1 Like |

How is beans parboiled? Ouchbabe:
I stand to be corrected, parboiling is not optional. It is necessary to reduce the amount of chemical preservatives used on the beans |

After washing your beans with hot water, why parboil again? NJV: @OP all this on and off is not necessary. For much better results, learn to use baking soda to boil your beans. It helps your beans cook really fast and solves the problem of farting after consumption. It's actually a healthier option to the traditional potash ( "Kaun" ) that we saw our parents use while growing up.
Also note the following: 1) wash your beans first with salt and hot water as that helps to remove harmful chemicals added during storage. Do this immediately after picking your beans, before you put it on fire.
2) Parboiling is very essential.
3) You don't start boiling beans with salt immediately. You add salt much later in the process. |

What kind of spoon? tobenuel: It aids to soften the beans. like a catalyst |
Re: The Best Economical Way To Cook Your Beans With Gas(pics) by NJV: 1:33pm On Dec 22, 2024 |
Love800: After washing your beans with hot water, why parboil again? The first wash is very brief and doesn't involve soaking, so the beans doesn't absorb water, rather it cleanse the beans of any chemicals. Parboiling softens the beans halfway since they absorb water in the process. Parboiling without the first wash with hot water and salt may cos the beans to absorb some of the storage chemicals. One can never be too careful. |

While no harm will come to you if you cook straight, Parboiling and rinsing that water off helps to remove the gas that leads to endless farting that usually accompanies beans eating. |
