I bought an orthopedic mattress yesterday and I slept on it last night and I've come to discover that it's too hard for me. It's not bouncy at all, and feels like I'm lying on a rock.

I'm 72kg, and in not suffering from any joint conditions.. I only bought the mattress because it was recommended by the seller as a 'good and durable mattress'

What do I do next? It's just too hard for me to endure and I don't know if it's going to get any better (or get slightly soft so that I can enjoy the mattress

Yes, orthopedic is arguably the beat mattress you can find in the market. You will get use to it, it is just a matter of time. Btw.i use the same type of mattress too.

Mine that is not orthopaedic seem hard too. Although I wake up with the heavier part of my body sunk in the mattress. My body end up aching. Just get a fluffy mattress cover.

You should get a Mattress topper. That’s the ideal thing.

You'll get used to it and very soon will enjoy sleeping on it.

That's even what I want.

All these soft mattresses after you wake up they'll be giving low waist pain because the waist regions sinks inside for several hours while you're lying down.

My next mattress must be orthopaedic. I wish we can even swap. I hope you get used to it.

Get a mattress topper.

There is no getting use to with these orthopedic mattresses.

I've had one that I bought over 8 years now and currently typing from it.
Thought you will enjoy the alignment of your skeletal frame but the body aches on your soft body tissue doesn't "get use to"

Using a topper like some have suggested may be an option to reducing the pressure on subcutaneous blood flow.

It's better you go for your weight grade mattress than jumping on the full orthopedic.

This was me sometime in 2021when I bought a semi-orthopedic. It was extremely too hard for me too.

What I did....I went to build a bed topper at Arena market in oshodi because I just couldn't find one thick enough. Omo, na extra cost for you o. Spent almost half the cost of the bed on the topper but got some relief. Epele fa

Use matchet /cutlass to soften it

Get mattress paddings or toppings on top.

The one important thing most people don't know is that body weight is the most important factor to consider when choosing a mattress, and not everybody needs or will do well on orthopaedic mattress. It is simply TOO HARD for most people.

You currently weight 72kg and have no serious medical issues, you're the perfect candidate for a medium density mattress. Those ones are the perfect balance between firm and soft, and they are made to comfortably carry up to 80kg body weight per individual user. Common examples of these are Mouka Foam Flora, Royal Foam Gallant and Unifoam Onyx Plus.

Two thing you can do with the current orthopaedic mattress you have;

- Sell it and buy something less firm like the ones I mentioned..
- Buy a memory foam mattress topper which is really soft and comfortable, then lay it on the orthopaedic mattress you have (NOTE: the best quality toppers you'd find are quite expensive, they cost above 100k as at December 2024 when I'm typing this)

You'd get used to it.I had the same complaint when we got ours newly but its over 10 yrs and still gidigba and I can barely lie down before sleep carries me away

Why didn't you ask before buying orthopedic? Now you've spent good money on what you aren't enjoying. Orthopedic beds should be recommended by a doctor but Nigerians just buy things for the sake of it.

it's 6 by 4.

The mattress is called prestige (Yaun feng) idk if that's the right spelling.

Is there anything wrong with the pricing? I bought it from a market in the north.. they initially said it's for 170k but we finally settled at 110k.

I plan on gaining some weight which will leave me to a body weight of 76kg.

Which one will suit me best? Sorry I also don't know the difference between a normal fabric and a quilted fabric..
