I saw one clown above gloating over this. I don't see these words as Yoruba words anymore, these words are used virtually by all Nigerians , even in other African countries too. These words are more like Nigerian creole language (pidgin). Those words were not added to oxford dictionary because it's Yoruba words but because of high percentage of speakers using it daily.

Please don't let your inferiority complex makes you think that you've achieved anything on this. It's just a normal thing. I cant even count the numbers of Swahili words and other languages words that have made it way to oxford dictionary yet the speakers don't make a fused.

I expect the land of PhD holders to behave more maturely.
na yoruba word, the English you are writing na English word, no matter where is being spoken or used

Japa, Agbero and Eba are Yoruba words.

It doesn't mean some other people don't have their own words for what Japa, Agbero and Eba mean in Yoruba, it's just absolutely important to set the record straight and give credit to the owner of the intellectual property.

They are Yoruba words and the Yoruba own those words that are now widely accepted globally.

Even the word " areaboy' is the anglicized form of a Yoruba word "ọmọ adugbo" ( Ọmọ is Boy/Girl , Area is Adugbo).

Yoruba culture has always been very influential and powerful. Many Afro words and cultures died during the trans Atlantic slave period, only Yoruba culture and religion survived intact
Deep insights.

Yoruba folks have a penchant for generating vibrant urban slangs and proudly use their language to engage in word plays with the English language and these quickly gain usage within the large Yoruba Diaspora population centers in North America and Europe. I recall that words such as "Lasgidy" and "Tokunbo" evolved back in the 1980s as alternate urban slangs for Lagos and for any item that's imported from overseas.

Unknown to some younger ones, the Anglicized "Area Boy" version of the Yoruba term "Omo Adugbo" evolved from Fela's disciples in the Ikeja area back in the day. They were the protectors of the hood folks. So, it had no negative connotations.

P.S. "Tsire" meaning "to stick/pin" is the standard Hausa language word for barbecued meat NOT "Suya" which is a corrupted form of the term "sooya or soye" in Hausa meaning to fry/burn something.

"I think of suya and I’m on a Lagos beach with Mum’: celebrating Nigeria’s spice dish"
=>https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/nov/13/i-think-of-suya-and-im-on-a-lagos-beach-with-mum-celebrating-nigerias-spice-dish
Its name (suya), sometimes written as “sooya”, is thought to be a corruption of “tsire”: a Hausa term that loosely translates as “prepared meat”.

Since those words are Nigerian words, they should be in a Nigerian dictionary. But if someone else wish to adopt them, fine.

You don't learn your own language using the language of another, otherwise what would happen is that foreigners would define and set the context for the meaning of our words- which, of course, they've done.

So because Nigerians adopted it, it doesn't have a root where it springs from again, your hate for Yoruba will kill you. Moreover, I can see how you always try to appear sensible without any iota of sense in you.

""The speakers don't make a fused"
"Don't let your inferiority complex makes " from you use of grammar I can see you are well read if these words have Igbo foundation I believe your ilk would have made a lot of fuss about it ,it is a testament to the wide acceptability of the Yoruba language that words coined from the language has become a national lingua Franca, you would disparage it because it is Yoruba if it had been Igbo you guys would be shouting Igbo amaka up and down

You make sense though but when you said they're not Yoruba words anymore, I wonder what changed them, and what they changed to.

JAPA is a Yoruba word meaning to run away.
EBA is a Yoruba delicacy made from Garri (cassava flakes)
ABI is Yoruba word that acts like a question tag, you use it to check whether the other person agrees with you.
AGB'ERO is Agba Ero, another Yoruba lexicon meaning the one who canvases for passengers, customers, patrons or whatever.

We know the word Yoruba is synonymous to headache for you (like we care) but give us our flowers; Nigeria is Yoruba and others.

We get many professors truly but no be we talk say make Emeka and Chinedu no go school o, na your Umunna say make dem go sell spare parts o.

Am a school teacher ... I told my students that in the next 30 years, pidgin English will be made Nigeria's second official language and will be used to teach in schools..

They all doubted. God willing... I will be alive to see it happen. It's just a matter of time

God knows you are free to console yourself with that but japa, agbero, abi, eba have always been and will forever be Yoruba words. Yes it's because large number of Africans speaks them but that's because of influence of Yorubas in Africa.
