Operatives of the Ajuwon division of the Ogun State police command have arrested a suspected cult leader, identified as Abiodun John, with a firearm during stop-and-search duties along the Akute/Olambe road.

The suspect aged 25, was arrested at about 3:30 PM on Thursday while driving a Venza car registered as URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in a statement obtained by DAILY POST, said the arrest followed a tip-off from the public.

Upon the information, the officers pursued the vehicle, which was eventually stopped in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station.

Items discovered from the vehicle included two locally-made pistols and three live cartridges.

Odutola noted that in the process John was arrested while another suspect remains at large.

She said, “On January 9, 2025, at about 3:30 PM, Ajuwon police officers were conducting a lawful patrol and performing stop-and-search duties along the Akute/Olambe road when they received information from the public regarding two men suspected to be inside a Venza car with dealer number URSMOT AUTOS – 4657DLA.

“Immediately the information was intercepted the officers pursued the vehicle, which was eventually stopped in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station.

One suspect, identified as Abiodun John, a 25-year-old male from the Olori area of Akute, was arrested, while another suspect remains at large.

She noted that investigation is ongoing, and the case will soon be transferred to the SCID ABK for further investigation after preliminary inquiries.

This is the reason I will always like stop and search when it's been utilised for the real purpose not to start using it to obtain innocent people or as mini-illegal robbing points.

Imagine how lovely it will be if Nigeria checking points were noted for where police will briefly search a vehicle and within 1-2 minutes you were off?

Don't blame the boy, considering the trend of friends killing their successful friends to take over their money, cars or landed properties. Perhaps he is using it for self-defense against such frenemies (armed robbery cannot be ruled out though) he should be properly investigated to ascertain his motives.

That is why Ogun youths don't want Police Check Points on their streets.

But, why haven't we asked ourselves, why this same type of guns?
What if they are being framed up by an "I will show you who I am" police?

Its just what ifs.

I can't trust the Nigerian police. I'd rather trust Amotekun.
