Oyetola's Team Arrives Bayelsa To Finalize Talks On $3bn Agge Seaport Project by seunowa(f): 9:17am On Feb 04
As part of measures to develop maritime infrastructure and ease congestion at the country’s ports, plans are underway to finalise the establishment and commencement of a deep sea port in Agge in Ekeremor local government area, Bayelsa state.

The $3billion project is a joint Public Private Partnership project of the Bayelsa State, the federal government, and a major private investor.

The proposed deep seaport is expected to create more jobs and promote socioeconomic activities in the area, attract more investment, and make the state a major transport hub for the north and southeastern parts of the country.
According to sources from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, a Project Delivery Team from the Ministry is in Bayelsa to work closely with the Bayelsa State government in finetuning plans to commence the project.

In line with his objectives to improve port infrastructure, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola said the ministry is making efforts to improve port infrastructure and connectivity and facilitate the ongoing development of critical maritime infrastructure in the country.
The team, according to a source familiar with the project, is in Bayelsa on the mandate of the Minister to fast-track the commencement of the project.
The Minister is optimistic that the project will help close the maritime infrastructure gap in the country.

The Bayelsa State Governor had last year, during a courtesy call on the minister in Abuja, solicited the support of the Federal Government towards the development of the deep seaport in Agge to harness the state’s blue economy potential.

Oyetola, during the visit, acknowledged the blue economy potential in the state and noted that the federal government will explore the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach to ensure the completion of the project.

It was also learnt that the Ministry is working towards attracting more private sector investments and Foreign Direct Investment to develop the country’s maritime infrastructure, which would further position Nigeria as a leader among maritime nations.

Upon completion, it is expected that the Agge deep seaport project will attract multi-billion naira investment to the State, which is regarded as a major maritime hub of the nation.

It was also hinted that the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach would be explored in the development of other proposed deep seaport projects in other parts of the country.

Google and you will see endless stories and pictures of one federal government team or the other visiting almost every other southsouth states to talk about opening up the seaports there. Nothing happened. The more you look the less you see. They come down to the southsouth to take pictures for the media and go to Lagos to develop more ports.

That's how someone from Calabar and Bayelsa will have to travel all the way to Lagos for port related businesses. Meanwhile there are endless seashores all over the southsouth. Developing the ports in the southsouth has now become rocket science to the federal government.

Meanwhile, Tinubu is busy building a "coastal highway" from his new ports at Lekki to all the southsouth states. That way imports will be easier for you guys in Calabar, Yenegoa and Uyo to access. That is while all the southsouth ports lie fallow. And your leaders are clapping...

Government distributing projects across the Nigeria regions but as an opposition, it's a taboo to praise them as something terrible might happen due to the oath swearing of not seeing the progress of Nigeria right?

Where is the lie in what I said !?
Most imports from Lagos ports end up in the east. Close to 70%. Yet the most favoured ports are in the west, while all administrative measures to subdue and denigrate the eastern ports are fashioned and implemented from Abuja, ofcourse with the tacit support from the over mischievous southwest.

Explain to us how the region that accounts for the highest port related businesses in Nigeria, ended up with all their ports effectively grounded. And if you think I was bluffing, show me any federal government success stories as it regards the modernisation of seaports in the former Eastern Nigeria. Just one example of a thriving port will do... Do remember that when most of the ports were developed, port development was in the exclusive list, so..

I'm waiting ..
And you will disappear..

Are the ports in Calabar, Warri and Onne for decoration? Those existing seaports aren't even functioning to optimal capacity and you are racing to open another one. It's looking as if this man wants to loot through this project. It's okay to build new seaports, but optimise existing ones first.

As far as I am concerned, the only way to break up this monopoly of Lagos is for all the southern Governor's to come together and get one functional and viable port with accompanying funding. Waiting for the FG to fund something that alters their interest is a wild goose chase.

You these ipob sef.. 70% imports end up in SE, which means 30% end up at other 5 geopolitical regions grin . Abeg, what's the population of SE compared to Lagos, Kano, PH, Oyo, Abuja, Delta, Kaduna etc where there are larger commercial markets than the entire SE. If you consumed 70% , why is the region has the lowest IGR in the entire Southern region?

How is this announcement equal to development when other announcements have failed to manifest, like the one below about crashing petrol price?
Abi petrol price don crash for ya area below what it was in January 2023

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.

On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.

On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.

Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.
