In recent days, Nigerians have taken to social media platform X to voice their frustrations with Kelvin Emmanuel, a close associate of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. Critics accuse Emmanuel of undermining the positive developments surrounding the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, which have recently been revitalized by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

Just weeks ago, the announcement of the NNPCL’s efforts to revamp these refineries was met with widespread enthusiasm. For the first time in years, many Nigerians enjoyed a festive Yuletide season free from long fuel queues and scarcity. The NNPCL, Nigeria's major energy company, has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at boosting job creation and ensuring fuel availability for consumers.

However, Emmanuel, who has been spotted alongside Dangote, has frequently criticized the NNPCL, leading many to question his motives. In a series of tweets, users expressed concerns about his apparent alignment with Dangote’s business interests. One user wrote, “Why does Kelvin refuse to acknowledge anything positive about the NNPC?” Another added, “Is Kelvin truly advocating for Nigeria’s best interests, or is he serving an agenda, thereby pushing propaganda?”

Critics argue that Emmanuel’s comments suggest a push for a monopoly that would favor Dangote as the sole supplier of fuel. One tweet remarked, “Dangote is a businessman—he only considered reducing prices after the NNPC refineries came online.” This sentiment reflects a growing belief that Emmanuel’s narrative is not in the best interest of Nigerians.

Further skepticism arose with another tweet stating, “Since he met Dangote, he has been offering free marketing. O fo fun Dangote. Omo ogbon. If na you nko?” This comment underscores the perception that Emmanuel’s relationship with Dangote may be influencing his public statements.

As the conversation continues on social media, questions linger about the motivations behind Emmanuel’s criticism and the implications for Nigeria’s energy sector. With the NNPCL making strides in revitalizing local refineries, many Nigerians hope for a future where fuel scarcity becomes a thing of the past.

I used to take the Kelvin guy seriously until he started saying things that make it clear to me he has an agenda. For instance he keeps saying warri is not refining because it is not producing PMS. Warri has never claimed to produce PMS. They’ve made it very clear they are only producing Diesel, jet fuel etc for now.”

Secondly he keeps mentioning “blending”. 90% of refineries blend because most refineries are not single train. A single train refinery like Dangote is a refinery that produces all its products in one process. Warri, PH and Kaduna are not single train refineries and were never even before they broke down. Any PMS they produced was always via blending. Again 90% of refineries in the world blend.

PH refinery can blend and produce PMS because it can source the blending additives from nearby Eleme which is how it can produce PMS. Warri cannot and does not produce PMS only AGO and kerosene etc.

Nigerians are finally enjoying fuel without endless queues, thanks to the NNPCL refineries, but instead of celebrating, he’s busy throwing shade. If competition is making Dangote reduce prices, isn’t that good for everyone? Looks like some people don’t want progress unless it benefits them. Enemy within!

No wonder !!!

Na this man show for Channels TV politics today yesterday night...

He said PHC and Warri refineries are not producing anything on one hand, then later said they are producing Diesel, Kerosene and Naphta that can be blended into PMS...then, later went on to say the sulphur rating of such fuel is bad and all sorts.

My question is, why the initial false that these refineries were not producing ANYTHING

Now I understand he is Dangote's puppet

I change channels any time I see him on TV/ YouTube.

I didn't know others have realised his constant criticism of anything to do with the government, government refineries,,crude oil production.etc

If crude oil production increases, he will criticise.

Government approves sale of crude oil in naira, he will find a way to bring negativity.

Government refineries are working nko, this guy will still find a way to criticise.

I have never seen anything like it

Anytime Arise TV viewership is going low, they'll quickly bring him on so he can criticise something/anything in order to keep their usual viewers happy.

Alhaji is a humble person, NNPCL that is sabotaging itself encouraging imports, instead of developing new markets all over Africa ...and take advantage now that they are just two major players , in the next 5 years there would be other players and other non fossil fuel players distrupting the markets..

Those criticising have no shame because if they have shame, they would have channel their energy towards questioning NNPCltd on why did it take the Dangote refinery to get them to do the needful. In fact, aside from praising Dangote for his refinery, I personally praise him for helping us to get NNPC on its toes

What kind of mumu talk is this? If nnpc refinaries are doing well, will they need marketing or paid advertising of their doings?, we Nigerians will feel their effects and acknowledge their successes. Abi must we always live on propaganda? You want the man to be shouting the praise of nnpc refinaries when it is dangote fuel bought at MRS petrol stations that is hot cake, where the fuel is said to give you more milage than those sold at nnpc fuel stations. Infact due to the rumors we heard few weeks ago, we have shifted our purchase for fleet business vehicles to MRS, and guess what, before we refueled after 4 working days, today it is 6-7 days. If MRS gets their fuel from dangote, is that not enough to sing their praise?
NNPC refinaries should go their own ghen ghen by eg slashing their prices by half, then we will sing their praise, even go to church to give testimony on Sunday service.
