Residents of Eboh Community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzu local government area of Enugu State are fleeing their homes after a brutal attack by armed herdsmen left 16 people dead and many properties destroyed in neighbouring Ebonyi State community.

SaharaReporters learnt on Tuesday morning that women and children below age of 18 years had already fled the agrarian community which had witnessed several attacks and abduction by Fulani hersmen in collaboration with neighbouring Benue State communities since 2021.

"The truth my brother is that residents of Eboh have fled the community, though there is no current attack in the community. The carnage they (Fulani Herdsmen) visited in the neighbouring Nkalaha Community on Sunday, which left at least 16 persons dead and 25 houses other valuable assets burned has sent shockwaves to our community.

"According to reports which I don't know whether it is true or not, the people of Eboh said that the Fulani herdsmen have sent signal that they will attack the community.

"If you come to the camp now, you will see lots of Eboh people mainly women and children who have already fled the community. However, some men are staying back to the defend the community in case of any eventuality," one of the sources told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters also reliably gathered that for the past three days, armed herdsmen have been engaging the Enugu community local security in gunfire, although no casualty has been reported so far.

SaharaReporters reported on November, 2024, how three farmers from the neighbouring Mgbuji community were murdered by same Fulani herdsmen while trying to occupy their farmlands near the boundary with Benue State.

Video clips seen had shown one of the victims slaughtered inside his Rice farm lying beside a basket cassava, he reportedly harvested before he was attacked.

It would be recalled that suspected Fulani militias under President Muhammadu Buhari, had sacked over 20 farm settlements in Eha-Amufu pcommunities and killed no less than 123 locals between 2019 and 2022, during clashes over farm destruction.

Ogenyi Odoh, a community leader, who confirmed the latest attacks and killings, begged for government urgent intervention to stop what he described as murderous attacks by herdsmen.

He said that for the past two weeks, herdsmen have destroyed hundreds of hectares of rice farms that are already due for harvest.

More worrisome, Odoh said was the rejection of those wounded that were taken to the state teaching hospital (ESUT Parklane) because of alleged workers' strike.

Odoh revealed that prior to the resumed attacks all the soldiers deployed to various strategic places in Eha-Amufu were withdrawn without any reason.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters' efforts to speak with the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls.

An attack happened in Ebonyi, Enugu people are running away, then Abia, Anambra will be open for easy penetration.

Now the military won't go after these terrorists. But when Igbo boys organize themselves and start fighting back, the Nigerian military will start killing the Igbo boys. I'm totally sick of this country.

Communal clash in Ebonyi have been going on for decades while the communities involved have been employing/hiring the likes of herdsmen, rogue soldiers to do their dirty work on their behalf

This news always come every year

Annoyingly, there would be reprisal and na herdsmen would still carry the blame

Their house is burning but their focus was on a dead Sharia in the SW. They seem to love the SW more than the lives of their kinsmen who are facing genocide by herdsmen. Keep the love going.

It's not their job to protect people, nobody is paying them salary for that.

Let those who are collecting salary like Police, Army and Navy explain why Nigeria is such an insecure country. They are more interested in erecting roadblocks everywhere in the South-East, extorting people

Everyday, government will be telling you that they will go after IPOB

How many times have you heard government say they will go after armed killer herdsmen despite the fact that they are killing people in all 6 geopolitical zones in the country? That will never happen

I sympathise with Eha-Amufu people, they have suffered many herdsmen attacks, and government does not care

If they get information that herdsmen will attack, they should evaluate until the coast is clear. You can't use catapult to fight someone with AK47

Bro, this people themselves are aware the Ebonyi issue is communal clash which have been going on for decades. It's almost same thing going on in Benue state.

The communities who have issue with each other's always employ the herdsmen or rogue soldiers to do the attacking without showing face.

I have been following this particular communal clash in Ebonyi for years now. .

Let the communities involved settle their differences without pointing wrong fingers

Strategize wetin, If I hear. Have you forgotten how a former Governor declared fasting and prayer after massacre in Nimbo. Even today, the Governor of Ebonyi has called for calm and asked people to avoid retaliation.

You can never read it because the attention should be shifted to the herdsmen which are hired

If the communities attacked don't have recent issue with the herdsmen in their community, it's illogical of the herdsmen to wake up one day and start attacking their host. Reason it

Of course, it is not the job of ESN to protect the people, their job is only to kill cows. Who is paying them salary to enter the bush and kill Fulani cows but doesn't have the common sense to pay them to protect the people. Keep fooling yourselves.

These are the ones that are busy talking nonsense as armed herdsmen decimate people all across the country while government does nothing

Ebonyi and Enugu share same boundary and the attack happened in a community very close to Enugu, so it's normal for their Enugu counterparts to run.
