152 Nigerian students have gotten the federal government’s overseas scholarship for the
2011/2012 academic session, as part of government’s effort to boost manpower needed to drive
the economy.
The awardees who are to study in various counties with Bilateral Educational Scholarship
Agreement Scheme (BEA) with Nigeria, are expected to study in critical areas of the nation’s
economy.
Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, speaking at an orientation ceremony for the scholars
departing to Russia and Ukraine, late Wednesday, urged them to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria
and avoid all forms defiance behaviour that would put the country in a bad light.
“Let me state here that to whom much is given, much is expected. We have gathered you here to
urge you to keep the flag flying, just as your predecessors have done in the past. You have to be
morally and academically sound, remain focused and dedicated to your studies as you know that
hard work never goes unrewarded.” She said.
The Minister further reminded the awardees that it was clearly indicated in their Award letters that
there was no room for repetition or extension of Scholarship Awards.
“Therefore, it is a must that you work hard and be of good conduct to finish your studies at good
time.”
Nigeria had for the purpose of scholarship exchange, research and Fellowship Plans, entered into
Bilateral Educational Agreements with China, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Ukraine, Russia, Greece,
Cuba, Czech Republic, Serbia, Poland, Macedonia and Romania.
