Eriokanmi:How many likes have you seen for your wonderful and very insightful post? The truth is Nigerians are not ready for change because they know what will be demanded of them before that change can come: responsibility, discipline, accountability, sacrifice, honesty and sincerity. We prefer to blame our leaders, from Tinubu, Buhari, Atiku, Jonathan to Gowon, Obasanjo, Shagari, Babangida and all others in between. Ask a Nigerian to hold a mirror up to himself and do a sincere self-evaluation, to determine how his everyday decisions, choices and actions have contributed to the cess-pool our country has become, they will shy away, guided by politics, tribe and religion to point fingers. A lot have become greedy, selfish and self-centered and this is the main reason we have tolerated leaders who treat us like crap. Because given half a chance, most would do the same. Just look at how we treat each other, at every level of society. This is not how we were originally, as a people. As recent as in the 60's and 70's, a vast majority of Nigerians embodied positive human attributes. We were known to be hardworking, honest, highly intelligent, loyal, friendly, hospitable. How we did a total turn-around as a society is a phenomenon that merits studying. I fully agree with you. But I struggle to see how that change can come if Nigerians do not resolve to change themselves individually. Tall order. 1 Like |

1.) The Trumpism/right-wing/bot farm stuff has polluted social media so much that people are pulling away. It's not as fun as it used to be. 2.) People are looking at social media and technology differently because they've seen too much negative impact in daily lives. I think the effect on gen z is really making people see it differently. It's not the end of social media, but there's definitely an adjustment happening. And this is backed by legislation and policy. 3.) If you're going to bank on tech, you should focus on essential and viable services. Those are the companies to work for or start. People don't need another SM app, but there's all sorts of customers for payment processing, delivery services, medical services, business management, and etc. Tech in particular offers some strong solutions in markets where the infrastructure and/or government don't. It can open up a lot of doors. 4.) AI isn't that awesome yet, but it still offers a lot of value, along with big data and smart tech. It's more a tool than a threat for developers, designers, and business people. It can also open a lot of doors. 5.) Meta offshored a lot of not-so-great jobs. Everyone knows about the horrors of what Kenyan workers had to do. So, you have to wonder how much of a loss some of those jobs are. And many of those jobs seemed to be things like customer service. That's not a bad job, but I question if workers in some markets can launch careers with that or retire off it. 6.) There's a ceiling on growth before capitalism starts eating itself. They're chasing foreign markets because they still have growth there. Since they basically refuse to pay western wages, they'll still need a bunch of workers abroad. |
