Nigeria Pharmaceutical Stakeholders Hail Shalina As Winners Emerge In Medical Competitions

It was a galore of commendations for Shalina Healthcare by stakeholders in the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry as winners emerge in the two foremost scholarly medical competitions in Nigeria, organised by the Afro-focus multinational pharmaceutical company; the Shalina Young Talents Award (SYTA) and the Shalina Rising Stars Award in Lagos recently.

The stakeholders who represent the academic community, the regulatory bodies among others were in consensus on the invaluable roles the healthcare company is playing in the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry.

Speaking in this regard at the event, the President Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm Tanko Ayuba said: "Shalina Healthcare is laying unprecedented legacies while creating an enduring path for young talents in the industry."

In the same vein, the National First Vice President, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, said the association is grateful for what the healthcare company is doing; ”we thank Shalina Healthcare for what they are doing for health care practice in Nigeria. This is investing in the future, impacting and promoting knowledge and medical researches. NMA celebrates them. "

Also, the Second Vice President, Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), Prof. Chris Aimakhu, believed the pharmaceutical company is purposefully raising the standard of pharmaceutical scholarship in the country, saying; "Shalina has made the young scholars to improve on the level of research and academic works in the medical schools."

In his own remarks, one of the assessors in the Rising Stars Award, Prof. Stephen Ikuerowo, a Professor of Urological Surgery, Lagos State University College of Medicine and Lagos State Teaching Hospital said;
“all the contestants are winners, they are excellent, it is even very difficult to pick the final10 out of them. It shows Shalina is helping to bring out the best and the greatest out of Nigeria."

Meanwhile in his opening remarks, the CEO Pharma of the company, Mr. Debajeet Mukherjee said; there are various opportunities coming into the country through Shalina Healthcare, there is a world class manufacturing company we are currently putting in Nigeria, there is an array of quality and affordable medicine we are producing in their large numbers into the markets and here we are with educating and elevating programs for the young professionals in the industry. We believe in contributing to the economy of Africa and her GDP which we believe the young people should tap into. "

At the grand finale of the Shalina Young Talent Awards (SYTA), a value adding national level competition for final year pharmacy students in the Nigerian universities, which was in its Season 6, Samuel Ayomide Ibrahim, a student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos (UNILAG) emerged the winner, after a keenly contested award involving 16 Schools of Pharmacy, where 2, 744 students across the country participated in the local qualifiers. Ibrahim won the grand prize of One Million naira beating other 15 contestants at the Grand Finale.

Also in the Shalina Rising Stars Award, a unique platform for medical professionals to showcase their clinical talents,
Dr. Odebiyi Akinola Ayodeji of OAU Teaching Hospital Ile-Ife Osun State emerged the overall winner, he won the grand prize of One Million, Two Hundred Thousand naira in a contest that started last year October with 750 doctors, across the universities in the six geopolitical zones of the country. The 10 finalists with the best researches participated in the Grand Finale.
