El Rufai tested his popularity with the recent comment on the president but he discovered that he's nothing in Nigeria's politics.

Elrufai never supported BAT because PDP won Kaduna? Who did Sanwo-olu, Gbaja and all the Lagos boys support in Lagos? Why did Tinubu lose Lagos to Obi and Osun to Atiku? Elrufai was not on the ballot, Tinubu was, except you expected him to rig the elections like in Rivers. Before you come and say "but APC retained all senate seats in Lagos", just know that the fact that APC won all the Senate seats in Lagos even proves how Lagosians were intentional about not voting Tinubu, specifically. They had nothing against other APC contestants. Tinubu was grossly unpopular and we all know GRV would have won the gubernatorial but for voter intimidation and suppression.

Elrufai will not be on the ballot in 2027 but Northerners who ditched their son, Atiku and supported Tinubu due to the influence of Elrufai in 2023 will simply take their votes elsewhere. Betrayals have consequences.

Dude, he lost by only 10,000 votes—that's crazy close! It could've gone either way.

In the West, Lagos would be a swing state leaning APC, like always.

Most of the Southwest is the same; people there aren't locked into one party.

Given Lagos' demographics and all the drama around BAT, he did pretty well to get those votes.

And he's smart; he knows it's about the total, and his people delivered where it counted, except maybe Rivers where I am not sure we can trust that report.

Take out Rivers, he still wins hands down

All of a sudden, we then see "Tinubu was grossly unpopular and we all know GRV would have won the gubernatorial but for voter intimidation and suppression."
Previously, we had "Elrufai was not on the ballot, Tinubu was".

1. Lagosians were intentional about not voting Tinubu, that's why others won.
2. GRV would have won against another candidate that's not Tinubu if not for voter's intimidation and oppression, where are you really standing?

No need for any long explanations. He lost Lagos, his own base and that's all that matters. Obi won Anambra and Atiku won Adamawa. The margin is irrelevant because Lagos was largely a two-horse race (APC and Obi) unlike Kaduna that was a three-horse race with Atiku (a fellow Northerner), Obi (the Candidate for all Christians) and Tinubu (muslim-muslim ticket was his only saviour). My point remains, why do you accuse Elrufai of working against Tinubu and the same is not directed at Akpabio, Gbaja, Ganduje, Ribadu, Bagudu, etc who all lost their states too.

Tinubu's margin of almost 400k in Kaduna is still larger than two Southwest states combined. Besides, despite Tinubu losing most northern states to Atiku, he still won the North overall (in terms of margin) getting 5.6m out of his total 8.3m from the North. Northerners are not buying this claim of you all saying Elrufai worked against Tinubu because they know it to be untrue. Rather, all Elrufai's opponents (who worked against the APC in 2023) have now been invited to the table to eat where he toiled to deliver his party's candidate. It is gross betrayal!

P.S: Kaduna is also a very cosmopolitan state with diverse tribes and a strong Christian population. Do you all consider these nuances when making your analysis?

A fact that seems lost on you, Tinubu supporters. If it was solely based on number of states won, Tinubu would have never been President. Did you all think Atiku was a small candidate in 2023? Northerners sincerely came out to vote for Tinubu just to end up having you throwing dust on their faces. Well, time is a gentleman.

In Response to the Specific case of Elrufai, I don't believe that he worked against Tinubu, at least not directly.

He campaigned and spoke up for him, when it matters, and rallied his own group to support BAT.

However, his perceived hatred for and treatment of people of Southern Kaduna, may have worked against BAT, and given Obi the inroads he had in Kaduna, this are votes that would have potentially been BATs.

That he lost all the three senatorial slots and most of the assembly votes in the state is also not looking good.

He is a good and effective administrator, but has a very terrible and harsh image. That is why he is so controversial.

Yes BAT should have rewarded him, but we don't know what the president saw to make him change his mind.

Considering the current ranting of El Rufai, I have to agree that it was smart that BAT dropped him.

Of course, it would be smart to you Southwesterners. You just need a justification for the betrayal. You betrayed him and want to dictate the terms of his reaction. BAT had the option of not nominating him at all, but he went further to embarrass him (despite begging him publicly in Kaduna and for several months after the election). I will say this outcome was already predetermined, which is rather unfortunate because Northerners cannot relate. Northerners generally give their word and keep it. Betrayal is not a northern way of life.

Using the Southern Kaduna analogy is like saying because Yoruba Obidients in Lagos do not support BAT, then BAT does not deserve to be President. There will always be opposition in every state. Don't worry, to understand what will happen by 2027, simply take most of BAT's numbers across the North and add it to Atiku's (PDP) margins. Southern Kaduna voted Obi and that will largely not change in 2027 (apart from a few Yoruba Obidients, no serious Obi supporter in 2023 will now vote BAT). They generally vote at variance with the North and they also do not have the numbers. It is a known fact that Northerners generally vote one-way, except in 2023 when they splitted their votes just to deliver BAT.

Hell Rufai is just media weight politician with no standard bearer and extremely inconsequential midget.

He has really goofed badly and messed himself up behaving like a political beginner and political parrot. He allowed himself to be pushed into a free fall its so unfortunate and pitiable.

He made a very big mistake by taking his message too personal and chose media portals as his way to settles issues and ended up disgracing himself.

Are you really sure if what you are saying?
What a monumental betrayal and grateful capitulation of trust.
El-rufai stood by Tinubu who couldn't even recite the first verse of the Koran when he went to campaign in the North!
In the South he was shouting bala blu and a town hall abracadabra.
If you are that El-rufai NEVER supported Tinubu, then good luck to you.
