Sowore Calls For Arrest Of 'Prophet' Ebuka Obi Over Alleged Fraud, False Prophecies — Offers Support To Woman Arraigned For False Testimony

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called for the arrest and prosecution of self-styled "Prophet" Ebuka Obi, rather than 32-year-old Loveth Helen Alo, who was arraigned on Tuesday for making false claims about owning a five-bedroom duplex in Enugu.

Sowore, in a statement following Alo’s arraignment at the Enugu North Magisterial District Court, accused Obi of deceiving the public with fraudulent prophecies and fake miracles while exploiting unsuspecting church members for financial gain.

The person who should be arrested and arraigned is the so-called ‘Prophet’ Ebuka Obi, not Loveth Helen Alo,” Sowore said.

The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) accused Obi of consistently scamming the public, and knocked the authorities for going after Alo instead.

He also expressed willingness to support Alo, urging anyone with her contact information to reach out.

Alo was brought before the court after claiming ownership of a property at WTC Estate, Enugu.

"This is unfair and unjust; the person who should be arrested is the so-called "Prophet" Ebuka Obi, who has consistently given false prophecies, scammed many unsuspecting church members and falsely obtained funds from the public with his fake miracles. If anyone knows this lady, please let me know how we can help," Sowore added.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Alo had been arraigned before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court for publicly making false claims of owning a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu.

The suspect had claimed that God blessed her with the acquisition of the property during a testimony at Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, in a statement on Tuesday, Alo was arrested on February 1, 2025, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of the property.

In the statement signed by the Command's spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting that she acted alone.

Ndukwe explained that Alo was charged with five counts, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

According to the statement, she was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to April 9, 2025, for further hearing.

The statement partly read: "Detectives from the Enugu State Police Command, attached to the Legal Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on February 1, 2025, arrested a 32-year-old suspect, Loveth Helen Alo, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu.

"She allegedly presented the property as hers during a testimony at Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

"The suspect was seen in a viral video testifying at a Zion Ministry program, claiming that God had blessed her with the acquisition of the said property. Footage of the building was displayed in the church during her testimony.

"In another viral video, she allegedly stated that she had purchased the house for two hundred million Naira (N200,000,000.00).

"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that she acted alone. She was arraigned today, March 11, 2025, before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court on a five-count charge, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

"She was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to April 9, 2025, for further hearing."

It's a complicit fraud on the altar. His arrest is useless. All that's needed is orientation. Women are too gullible

Civic Organisation RULAAC Warns Against Manipulation Of Justice In 'Prophet' Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry's N300million Duplex Testifier Case

March 12, 2025
NEWS

The Executive Director of the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), Okechukwu Nwanguma, has warned against manipulating justice in the prosecution of the 32-year-old woman, Loveth Helen Alo, who was arraigned in court for publicly making false claims of owning a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu State.

Alo was arraigned before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court by the Nigeria Police Force after she claimed that God blessed her with the acquisition of the property during a testimony at Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, in a statement last Tuesday, Alo was arrested on February 1, 2025, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of the property.

The police explained that Alo was charged with five counts, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

Reacting to her prosecution, Nwanguma raised concerns about the need for fairness, transparency, and due process in the case.

Nwanguma emphasized the importance of ensuring that Loveth receives proper legal representation to safeguard her procedural rights.

Given the historical challenges of law enforcement bias in Nigeria, he warned that without adequate legal counsel, she could be susceptible to injustice or manipulation during the investigation and trial process.

Highlighting the significance of context in criminal investigations, Nwanguma urged the police to take into account Ebuka Obi’s history of false prophecies.

He noted that ignoring such a record could indicate negligence and potentially undermine the integrity of the current investigation into the allegations against Loveth.

While acknowledging that law enforcement agencies are not obligated to disclose all details of an ongoing investigation, Nwanguma pointed out that relevant reports could be released at the discretion of the authorities.

However, he cautioned that any such disclosure must not compromise the case or violate privacy rights.

In light of persistent concerns about police integrity, Nwanguma called for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.

He stressed that an impartial inquiry would not only help clarify the facts but also ensure accountability in handling the case.

He said, “There is the need for fairness, transparency and due process in Loveth's case in view of the broader context of law enforcement practices in Nigeria.

“It is crucial for Loveth to have legal representation to ensure her procedural rights are protected, especially given the historical issues with law enforcement bias in Nigeria.

“Without adequate legal counsel, she may be vulnerable to injustice or manipulation during the investigation and trial process.

“The police should certainly consider Ebuka’s history of false prophecies as it could contextualize the current allegations against Loveth.

“Ignoring previous records may indicate negligence and could undermine the integrity of the investigation.

“While the police may not typically make all details public, especially during an ongoing investigation, specific reports can be released at the discretion of law enforcement or through public requests, unless it compromises the case or privacy rights.

“The National Human Rights Commission can and should carry out an independent investigation, especially considering public concerns about police integrity.

“An impartial inquiry could help clarify facts and ensure accountability.”

The unfolding situation has drawn public attention, with many urging law enforcement agencies to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.

On March 3, SaharaReporters reported that Alo, who falsely testified at the Zion Prayer Movement Church led by self-proclaimed Prophet Ebuka Obi, had been arrested by the police.

Alo had claimed in her testimony that she had paid N200 million for a N300 million mansion, and would soon pay the balance, but her deception was exposed by Roboconsult, a real estate firm.

During interrogation, she confessed that she neither owned nor paid for the mansion in question.

In the viral video, Alo had declared, "I got this one. The house is two, but this is the one I chose. I have paid N200 million, and I will complete the balance in installments. The house costs N300million."

When confronted about her false testimony at the Zion Prayer Movement Church, where she claimed she had bought a mansion, she admitted that the house was not hers.

However, in 2023, Obi was accused of staging a miracle involving the late veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.

At the time, Obi had claimed to have healed Okafor, who later passed away on March 2, 2024, after battling an illness that required seven surgeries and the amputation of his legs.

There have also been several allegations against Obi performing staged miracles, though he has refuted the allegations.

Sowore is just a typical triballistic affonjja. This is for you foolish efullefus supporting this guy. Tinubu and Awolowo will be a child's play to his own level of triballism.

Why is he so focused on Ebuka Obi when we have criminal pastors that are mostly Affonjjas. What some of you efullefus don't know is these criminal affonjja pastors have paid this triballist to destroy Ebuka Obi, the fastest growing pastor in Africa, who has taken almost all Igbos out of the criminal affonjja churches, this is what is paining them. That this Igbo man Ebuka Obi from no where, just cornered most Igbo out of their churches and to make matter worst, he moved his church from Lagos to the East, to make sure all that money stays in the East. Since he did this, affonjjas have been on his neck.

Igbos must defend Ebuka Obi even though you don't support him. Personally I don't give a hoot about his church, just proud he cornered all those members and moved his church to the East, despite all insecurity propaganda on SE.

Nah... Arrest for what exactly?!! Lol.

Ebuka and Odumeje are, at best, Clowns entertaining the bored and frustrated.

When those who willingly submitted their brains to them are ready to face the realities of their lives, those 'ministries' will become moribund.

For now, that's the very least of our priorities as an economically dormant nation.

Sowore is not different from a stark illiterate.
Their is nothing like false prophecies, fake miracles or fake testimonies in law
unless someone was defrauded or harmed in the process.

Even the arraignment of that woman is abuse of police power
because she did not commit any crime.
After all, lying is not a crime.

Honestly I don't really understand all these brouhaha about this man prophesy and his followers faking it raw.

To be sincere the pastor should not be arrest or disturb on this issue because he never forced anyone to make fake testimony. So I don't understand why disturbing this man.

I don't know him, never Watch his programme before, I don't even know where his church is but he did nothing wrong in this particular situation because no evidence he forced anyone to do fake testimony..
