Kelvin Emmanuel And Bismarck Rewane:

In the ever-evolving landscape of Nigerian economic discourse, television has become a critical platform for shaping public opinion. Among the voices that dominate this space, two economists are often seen on TV: Kelvin Emmanuel and Bismarck Rewane. Both frequent Arise TV and Channels TV.

Their approaches to analyzing Nigeria’s economic realities could not be more divergent. While one is celebrated for his data-driven insights and measured commentary, the other has drawn scrutiny for what many perceive as a pattern of biased, agenda-laden critiques. The contrast between these two figures raises important questions about objectivity, credibility, and the role of economists in shaping national dialogue. However, Kelvin Emmanuel’s credibility hangs dangerously in the balance.

Bismarck Rewane, a seasoned economist and CEO of Financial Derivatives Company, has long been a respected voice in Nigeria’s economic sphere. His analyses are rooted in empirical data, historical context, and a deep understanding of macroeconomic principles. When Rewane speaks, viewers are treated to a masterclass in economic reasoning. His ability to break down complex issues into digestible insights has earned him a reputation as a trusted authority. Whether discussing inflation, exchange rates, or the performance of state-owned enterprises like the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Rewane’s commentary is consistently balanced, informed, and devoid of sensationalism. He is, in every sense, the gold standard for economic analysis in Nigeria.

On the other end of the spectrum is Kelvin Emmanuel, whose appearances on Arise TV have sparked both attention and controversy. Kelvin Emmanuel’s critiques of Nigerian owned parastatals in particular, have become a recurring theme in his commentary. While criticism of public institutions is a necessary component of a healthy democracy, Emmanuel’s approach often veers into the realm of hyperbole and unsubstantiated claims. His relentless attacks on Nigerian Government and policies lack the nuance and evidence-based rigor that one would expect from a professional economist. Instead, they appear driven by a singular narrative: to discredit the Government owned oil sector, this also casts a dark cloud over the integrity of his work.

This raises a troubling question: why does Kelvin Emmanuel’s commentary seem so one-sided? Sources close to the matter suggest that his critiques are not entirely his own. It is alleged that Emmanuel is being sponsored by individuals with vested interests in undermining NNPC. If true, this would explain the economist’s persistent negativity and his apparent disregard for balanced analysis. Such a revelation, if proven, would not only undermine Emmanuel’s credibility but also cast a shadow over the integrity of his work. After all, an economist’s value lies in their ability to provide impartial, fact-based insights—not to serve as a mouthpiece for hidden agendas.

The contrast between Kelvin Emmanuel and Rewane is stark. Where Rewane relies on data, Emmanuel often resorts to rhetoric. Where Rewane offers solutions, Emmanuel seems content to amplify problems. This divergence is not merely a matter of style; it speaks to the core of what it means to be a credible economist. In a country like Nigeria, where economic challenges are complex and multifaceted, the public deserves analysts who prioritize truth over theatrics, and substance over sensationalism.

It is worth noting that criticism, when constructive, can be a powerful tool for accountability. No public institution is above scrutiny. However, the nature of Kelvin Emmanuel’s critiques—often lacking in evidence and seemingly driven by ulterior motives—does little to advance meaningful dialogue. Instead, it risks eroding public trust in the very institutions that are critical to Nigeria’s economic stability.

In the battle for TV supremacy, Bismarck Rewane emerges as the clear victor. His commitment to data-driven analysis and his unwavering professionalism set a standard that others should aspire to. Kelvin Emmanuel, on the other hand, appears to have strayed from the path of objectivity. Whether by choice or by influence, his approach undermines the credibility of his profession and does a disservice to the Nigerian public.

As viewers, we must demand more from those who shape our understanding of the economy. We deserve analysts who prioritize facts over fiction, and who are guided by a genuine desire to inform rather than to inflame. In this regard, Bismarck Rewane stands as a beacon of integrity, while Kelvin Emmanuel’s credibility hangs in the balance. The choice of whom to trust is ours to make—and it is a choice that should not be taken lightly.

This is commentary about two individuals. Don't forget that Rewane owns a firm and analysts are what they are, ANALYSTS. In the North, ask them who they are. North is too far, go to some states in Nigeria, they don't know both of them.

I don't see the need for these post saying 'Nigeria' and labeling them. They are analysts and an analyst will see things from his POV. If you say the young man is a propagandist, then replay clips of Rewane under Buhari undecided

It looks like a sponsored post to spoil the name of one of them and the way this topic moved to the front page immediately confirms that. Let them be. If the TV stations stop bringing them, who will you blame. At one time, Opeyemi Agbaje had content on ecomomy, was he an economist or propagandist? Abati one time was writing until he went to Aso Rock and till date people are disappointed in him, forgetting that he was just a SPOKESMAN! Why will you hinge your governance on an appointee Nigerians will not look at how to do their own analysis, they will be waiting for someone else to blame. Rubbish angry

See the thread where that professor said the MRS petrol viral video was not true and everyone said he's only saying theory, that's not the practical they see. Nigerians should be like that, read theory, eat practical. If theory doesn't match practical, you know who/what to believe.

They think we are fools.

Rewane said the ecomomy was improving 7 years ago when Buhari was President. Today they are telling us Buhari destroyed the economy, even APC said so.
Rewane served in Buhari's committee and if they want to, they will choose him to help Tinubu. Buhari praised his work and he is doing his work.

May God bless you richly for this excellent comment that is richly backed up with video clips.

NBS said that inflation has dropped to 24% in January from 34% in December, even though more charges on different transactions were hiked recently and T-Pain is yet to crash dollar rate as he promised before hitting the ground running 22 months ago.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate[

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

I know what you are talking about. There is a reason I wrote more about Rewane, who has a longer history and reputation than the other guy. Don't be fooled to thinking that all of them are 100% independent when it comes to analysis. Everyone has interests and some of them may be your clients so you don't talk bad of them. If the President appoints you to serve on his committee for economic reform, will you be pessimistic about the ecomomy?

I have been reading and listening to analysts for a very long time and when you read or listen long enough, you can read between the lines. They are just human beings doing the job for the masses. They need them to think for the people who can't think. They are everywhere, religion, politics, ecomomy, sports, fashion, law, just name it. They are like the influencers we have today. I would rather counter what they said as an adult than tarnish their image. Na chop den wan chop and they can use any platform to do it. The broken clock is not wrong 24/7 so I just take what I want from what they are saying and throw the rest away. They also have a right to their opinion/analysis. Most economic analysts live in an illusion of textbook and corporate world fantasy, this world does not exist to the common man.

For you to find an independent analyst is to see a man who says I was wrong yesterday and I can be wrong tomorrow. They are free from pressure because no one is feeding them. I take every analysis with a pinch of salt. You can see how over the years, Nigerian viewers know law more than lawyers now cheesy Even Aondoaaka is now analyzing legal issues and I'm shocked when he says some things about the judiciary. The same man who was AGF grin

The two men can absolve themselves of blame because they are working with information and that is what they are using for analysis. It is the job of the journalists to question them on anything they think is wrong. The writer says Mr Rewane is using hard facts but I can tell you that reality is not the same as theory. The man has experience but I don't always agree with him. If I can't feel those numbers in my pocket, everything is textbook. Again, all over the world, analysts predict and they can be wrong. COVID taught us that we can't always listen to medical experts when it has to do with the economy and that we can't always listen to financial experts when it has to do with health and safety wink

If someone is sponsoring the young man to do PR, let's counter his positions just as you are doing to me on NL. Let us ask him questions that we will like to ask his sponsor. It's all the politics of this world. If you take your time to observe, you will see who is working for who and who is sponsoring who. Some of them are not so obvious but take your time to see where the relationships are wink

Everyone has agenda, only the truth does not have agenda so with time, you will see who is telling the truth.

first he said it was a lie that the refinery was working, then he went on and on about Warri not producing PMS and that NNPC was lying.....NNPC clearly stated from the start that Warri is not producing PMS yet

yesterday he claimed NNPC were lying about the 84million barrels of crude they supplied Dangote. Wheras NNPC clearly stated in their press statement that the 84m is the total they have supplied and of that, 45M of which was under the naira for crude swap. Kevin deliberately made it sound as if NNPC claimed the whole 84m was naira for crude. Even an elementary school student given the statement as an english comprehension assignment knows NNPC did not say 84m was naira for crude and they specifically said 45m was naira for crude.

the guy has no credibility. i am sure he is being paid

First pic is press release by NNPC , second is reaction by Kelvin

is the Refinery Doing Fractional Distillation or Blending ? Cos in refining process methane gas is Burt and flame can be seen which is absent here
Since NNPC claim it refining so why importing 25m litres Daily ? Why spend 1.7 trillion for import ?
Dangote refinery has been operational for over 8 months now the 45m barrel at 350000 per day will serve only how day
Why is Dangote importing WTI from America and recently 1 m barrels from Algeria
